To think you can't reserve places in the Aldi queue

Another shopper had placed their bags in the queue before wandering off to get the trolley.

They expected to return to where the bags were rather than go to the end of the queue.

Were they being a bit CF?

I would have waited for people to join behind and then asked them to save my space. I did this as I needed grobags that's we're outside

icansmellburningleaves · 10/05/2020 12:01

You need to pick your battles. This is hardly worth getting in a state about. It’s not like they had reserved a place for all their family. You are being completely unreasonable.

yellowbrickwhorl · 10/05/2020 12:08

I got in the queue a couple of weeks ago and then thought 'oh bugger' when I saw the sign asking people to collect their trolley first.
Someone kindly saved my place for me. Smile

Ellmau · 10/05/2020 12:09

It is a bit cheeky, but if the queue hasn't moved I would let her back in. If the queue advances in her absence, bypass her place. TBH in normal times if a couple are shopping one may queuehold while the other goes back for something they've forgotten, and that happens a lot where I am.

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 12:13

YABU, they only went to get a trolley - a real CF would have gone for a takeaway coffee and asked you to keep moving their bag up the queue Grin

SerendipityJane · 10/05/2020 12:22

I wonder if there's an opening for a business to charge people to queue for them ?

Serin · 10/05/2020 12:35

Chill out OP.

BruceAndNosh · 10/05/2020 12:35

Unless she went an hour away to get a trolley, it's fine

Oysterbabe · 10/05/2020 12:38

I think it's fine. It would take less than a minute to get the trolley.

Viviennemary · 10/05/2020 12:40

I think this is reasonable. And I am not usually in favour of queue jumping.

TheThingWithFeathers · 10/05/2020 12:40

I thought you were going to say that someone had asked their mate to save them a space and then rocked up and got into the supermarket before you without having had to queue! Reserving your own space for a few minutes is perfectly fine IMO.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 10/05/2020 12:41

If she sat in her car and expected you all to hold her place and shout her when she’s at the front then she’s been cheeky.

Otherwise I’d say no, and not worth bothering about 😁

AJPTaylor · 10/05/2020 12:42

We are all in this together
Be kind

Just words aren't they?

Oilyoilyoilgob · 10/05/2020 12:43

@SerendipityJane I’d actually do this for people 😅 I’m loving the chilled out queuing before going in, especially in the nice weather we had. My introvert self is loving the peace and people not speaking and shouting as much as normal!

Wonder how much I could charge p/h 🤔

CorianderLord · 10/05/2020 12:45

I think they can yes. They are queuing, they forgot a trolley, don't jump in their bones for their spot because they dared to move. It's not like they went to get some lunch or something.

In Japan it's common to leave your shoes in a queue as a place marker. Far more civilised than this barging and thinking you're more busy than everyone else

Sexnotgender · 10/05/2020 12:46

I really couldn’t get worked up about someone nipping to get a trolley.

I did get really pissed off at the lady absolutely incapable of keeping the hell away from me in the queue yesterday though.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 10/05/2020 12:50

Wow - within the minute it probably took to get the trolley 5 people queued up behind the bags? it must be heaving at that Lidl!

So did it all kick off OP?

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 12:50

In Japan it's common to leave your shoes in a queue as a place marker

But..where do you go in your bare feet/socks?? Or do you take a second pair of shoes just for the queue? What do you do with yourself while your shoes are in the queue? Confused

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 12:52

A woman called me a cunt over a queue dispute at Aldi once! That was before CV tho', maybe she's mellowed since then..

redwinefine · 10/05/2020 12:52

But..where do you go in your bare feet/socks?? Or do you take a second pair of shoes just for the queue? What do you do with yourself while your shoes are in the queue? confused you sit in the waiting area seats

PilatesPeach · 10/05/2020 12:52

when is the general quiet time in Aldi nowadays? I haven't been since lockdown (been using the gun at Tesco) as heard it was like Picadilly Circus at many Aldi stores.

cologne4711 · 10/05/2020 12:53

I wonder if there's an opening for a business to charge people to queue for them

It would be so worth it for me!

Pinkyyy · 10/05/2020 12:54

I think it would have been polite to say something to the person behind her. I'd have walked straight past her bags if the queue moved.

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/05/2020 12:56

She possibly doesn’t normally shop there....thought the trolleys would be near the entrance, realised they’re weren’t and went to get one and didn’t want to lose her place. Reasonable, I’d have saved her place if she’d asked me.

Herpesfreesince03 · 10/05/2020 12:58

Of course it’s ok. It’s not like they’ve jumped the queue.
