To think pcos is a curse

I have been married for 3 years and we have been ttc since the beginning, no luck. Doctors say I have pcos other than that everything is fine and as I have fairly regular cycles and do ovulate they have put me on metformin only, have been taking for 6 months and still no pregnancy.

I also take maca and evening primrose oil.

If you have pcos how long did it take you to conceive? And what supplements/medications helped?

I'm losing hope, maybe my body is just useless and ill never get pregnant.

You don't mention your weight but this was a big thing for me. Conceived the month my bmi went into the normal range.

Dianette is a contraceptive pill so it's not going to help if you are ttc!

I have it, newly diagnosed but only came to light after stopping the pill a couple of years ago. I don't ovulate/bleed though. I also have endometriosis (reason I went on the pill) and my insides are a little messed up. Dr was frank with me, it's highly likely I'm infertile but we don't want children so I am ok with that. My poor DH had a vasectomy and probably for no reason bless him.
I did want to help myself though and ease my symptoms. I've found a book '8 steps to reverse your PCOS' by Fiona McCullough really helpful in making positive changes

I have pcos too. Took three years and metformin plus many rounds of failed ovulation induction to conceive no 1. Turned out I also had severe endometriosis and adenomyosis too (only found out much later). Managed to have another two kids but had Multiple miscarriages too. Good luck xxx

Hi no my pregnancy’s ended up completely natural! They didn’t try metformin because we had dual issues.
Really hope it happens for you soon

I have PCOS and fairly regular cycles. It took me 27 months to conceive my 1st DC

I fell pregnant 2 months after he was born and miscarried

Fell pregnant 2 months after that and miscarried again.

7 months after the last miscarriges i fell pregnant with my DD ( 14 months after having DS )

Had a miscarriges 12 months after DD was born and fell pregnant with DS2 14 months after having DD.

I have 3 and there's 22 months between each of them

I have been trying to conceive with my now partner for 22 months and not had a hint of pregnancy yet

It took us 6 years to conceive DD and she was a complete surprise. I was taking soy isoflavones at the time but we weren't actively trying that month. I spent years going round and round in circles trying to get a doctor to take me seriously before I finally got a PCOS diagnosis.

We've been TTC #2 since Jan with no luck. I have only ovulated twice since then though :(

Best of luck to you, PCOS really sucks.

Child 1 took me 3 1/2 years, child 2 was 11 months later, child 3 another 3 years. My sister took 9 years but she got her baby in the end.
These were without any sort of fertility treatment so could have potentially taken less time with medical help.
Good luck to you and your DH, I hope you get the news you are waiting for soon

Weight is a huge factor , I know you’re feeling desperate but losing weight could be the trigger to conception vs lots of medical intervention - it was for me

I found out I had pcos when we ttc with no success - I wasn’t ovulating.

Dd is a metformin + clomid baby. Took 2yrs & 2mc but only 6 months after starting treatment.

Ds was conceived naturally when dd was 11 months old.

I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time and I really hope you are successful very soon

Straight away with my first (pre-diagnosis no PCOS symptoms)
Three years with my second.
Two months with my third(I think, I was EBF my second so no period)
I never took any medication to conceive so I think I just got lucky.
A relative of mine with PCOS had to take clomid and conceived the month after she started taking it, is that an option for you OP?
Also don't lose hope - but you're right, fertility issues a side, PCOS is a curse in many ways Sad

I have PCOS and can go a year between periods. We where TTC for five years and finally got to the top of the list for fertility treatment in March only for the appointment to be cancelled indefinitely because of Corona.

After all that heartache and thinking it wouldn't happen I found out I'm pregnant last week.

While I'm not overweight I did make an appointment with a private dietician in December to see if we could make tweaks to my diet to help with fertility, I'm assuming that's what has helped.

Don't give up hope.

I didn't know I had PCOS until we were ttc. I was put on Metformin to regulate my period and then I was also put on Clomid. It took about 2/3 months to get pregnant with our 1st. Unfortunately it wasn't as easy getting pregnant the 2nd time, so I had Ovarian drilling and that did work.

I've conceived 3 times with PCOS. I do ovulate but cycles are irregular and short. Over the years I've found it doesn't work / I have early miscarriages if I don't take supplements to get my cycles a bit more in order. Myo Inositol and metformin carry out the same function, but you can take both together (what dose of metformin are you on?) Other things that really made a difference to my cycles were exercising daily (even just walking for 45 mins a day helped lower my blood sugar and improve the length of my luteal phase), cutting down on carbs and switching to wholemeal, less sugar more protein, and vitex (agnus castus) can also help regulate cycles, but I wouldn't introduce too many changes at once. Diet and exercise alone combined with the metformin may help if you are ovulating and have fairly regular cycles.

I conceived the month after coming off 6 months on dianette (which I took to have a break from my horrendous periods) & I was also the lowest weight I've been in my adult life. Good luck.

Please don’t give up hope.
I was told at 21 that I had pcos and that I would struggle to conceive naturally. About 2 months after that , I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter. I thought no more of the pcos until she turned 2 years old and we decided to ttc #2
In the end tried for 9 years , nothing.... was so frustrating. Finally was referred to the fertility specialists and they prescribed me clomid with pregnyl injections and scans every other day to detect exact ovulation. I fell pregnant on my first go , sadly the pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage but after a break , I went back on clomid and fell pregnant straight away again and that resulted in my second daughter .... imagine my shock when she was 4 months old and i found out I was pregnant again naturally which resulted in my son 13 months apart!

There is hope for everyone ,speak to a good fertility specialist and go from there. I know how hard it is and could never have imagined I’d have 3 children!

Good luck x

Thank you for all the replies. I really appreciate it. I've just got back from the doctor this morning and she upped my metformin doesage to 2000 mg per day. I was on 1000mg before she said there are woman who don't see a difference until their mg is 1500 or up. So let's see! Praying for a miracle! I guess reading from your stories, 6 months on metformin isn't that long and it can take longer. So I will preserve. I only added the myo inositol this month, so hopefully that will also make a difference. I was told I can take them together. I'm not overweight, my weight is normal range although I could probably lose a few pounds.

Also just to add, when it's not corona I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. So I do live a relatively healthy lifestyle. Doctor said to try another 4 months on the 2000 mg and then if nothing will talk about introducing clomid. I'm currently due my period next week and know for sure like every month she will come. 😣

It sounds like you're doing all the right things - fingers crossed it all works out soon.

Has your partner had a sperm count/swim up test to rule out any issues there?

@sluggishsnail Yes he has and he's fine. Here's hoping. Was thinking about also incoporating temping, does this work for pcos?

Got diagnosed PCOS at - 17, all the typical symptoms. Only had about one period a year! Overweight, excess hair etc etc. Wanted a baby at age 29 - Took Metformin for over a year, lost some weight and then got pregnant on my second cycle of Clomid, now have a 2 year old. And periods are now regular!

My sister has PCOS tried to conceive for years. After two cycles of Clomid she was pregnant and now has a healthy baby. She was 36.

I have PCOS. I took metformin which helped kickstart my periods (I hadn’t had one for a year after coming off the pill).
We I read up about a sperm meets egg thing where you have sex on the first day after your period end. Then every other day until ovulation (confirmed with a ovulation test). Then every day for a week.
I unfortunately had multiple miscarriages, (a lot of them early at 5 or 6 weeks). However, using this method, I got pregnant about 8 times and I have 2 children.
