In my county there are 863,000 people and 1,221 have had confirmed cases and 200 have died. In my area, the only hospital is 20 minutes away and there have only been 7 cases and everyone has recovered. I don’t know anyone who has had it. What’s it like where you are?

Fredocorleone · 08/05/2020 19:04

Yup. 1,100 cases in a county population of 800k. I think 100 people have died in my local hospital - almost exclusively all aged 90+ with underlying health issues

I also don’t know anyone who has had it.

I appreciate I’m feeling very lucky in my area

Proudboomer · 08/05/2020 19:16

There are 1,224 confirmed cases in West Sussex, out of a local population of 858,852
In West Sussex there were 284 coronavirus-related deaths up to the 24 April. In this area 14% of all deaths involved coronavirus between 29 February and 24 April

My brother and his wife are in a London borough they both have tested positive. My sil works in a care home where they has been deaths and she was infected there and passed it on to my brother. So far neither has required hospital treatment but my brother is monitored daily as he has other health issue. Sil is on the long road to recovery and should make a full recovery.

Gtugccbjb · 08/05/2020 19:17

Hardly any in West Sussex where we are. Less than 5 dead in my area. All old I think

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/05/2020 19:21

About 90 dead out of 350,000 people

PotteringAlong · 08/05/2020 19:21

slipperywhensparticus · 08/05/2020 19:24

1224 confirmed cases out of population 592,057

Apparently 20% of deaths in my area mentioned coronavirus on the death certificate

Prestonsouthend · 08/05/2020 19:28

3,093 confirmed cases
population of 1,210,053

ScarletPower · 08/05/2020 19:30

There were 210 coronavirus-related deaths up to the 24 April. In this area 22% of all deaths involved coronavirus between 29 February and 24 April

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/05/2020 19:36

In my county, Cumbria, out of just under 500,000 people, there have been 400 deaths. In the map on that BBC article we are one of the darkest blue areas, suggesting that we are one of the hardest hit counties.

Tunnocks34 · 08/05/2020 19:41

844 confirmed cases. My grandma had it confirmed but honestly she was fine. She said no worse than a chest infection and she continued to do her gardening etc throughout it, although she did get more tired. She has one lung due to previous lung cancer. We were very shocked to find out her test was positive.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 08/05/2020 19:41

There are 730 known cases of coronavirus in ** out of a local population of 355,218. That is a rate of 2055 cases per million - the 105th highest rate in England.

Interesting, that however is just the ones who have been tested, widespread testing is still hit and miss, it's only in the last week that people have been able to request a test based on displaying symptoms.

So that's 730 people who have ended up in hospital and therefore been tested, which seems like a pretty high number to me.

VodkaCranberry2 · 08/05/2020 19:53

Looks like West Sussex is one of the least hit areas. I’m from West Sussex also but got the figures wrong (checked yesterday and remembered differently) surprised at Cumbria. Over half of cases are in London.

FuckThisWind · 08/05/2020 20:39

I'm in a least hit region. North East. Yet I still know 3 people who have died from CV

dawnc27 · 08/05/2020 20:51

IndecentFeminist · 08/05/2020 20:53

Italy.

isabellerossignol · 08/05/2020 21:06

I looked at the figures today and in my area, current infection rate (diagnosed obviously) is just under 0.2% of the population. Although last week it was only 0.1%.

LittleFoxKit · 08/05/2020 21:23

There are 588 confirmed cases, out of a local population of 255,833

there were 66 coronavirus-related deaths up to the 24 April. In this area 13% of all deaths involved coronavirus between 29 February and 24 April

Ethelfleda · 08/05/2020 21:32

It’s a weird one because my county ostensibly isn’t suffering a great deal.
However, my nearest A&E is in a hospital that is part of the University Hospitals Birmingham trust... with the second highest number of infection in the country.

And seeing as, for the most part, only hospital admissions were being tested, I don’t understand if these infections rates ‘in your local area’ are even accurate?

Bluntness100 · 08/05/2020 21:39

I’m also in West Sussex, in my specific area and surrounding towns there has been three deaths.

DonnaDarko · 08/05/2020 21:44

We are in a Kent town near London..

There are 675 cases out of a local population of 277,855.
Up to 24th April, 109 deaths.

I don't know anyone who has been ill.

BanjoStarz · 08/05/2020 21:44

860 cases out of a population of 320,000.

199 deaths - 25% of deaths involved COVID 19 between end of Feb and April 24th.

Middle of the west and within spitting distance of a super hospital...

MissConductUS · 08/05/2020 21:44

Westchester County
Confirmed
30,240
Recovered
21,427
Deaths
1,116

That's in a county with a population of about 950,000. Note that we're just north of NYC, which is a massive hot spot. Lots of Westchester residents commute into the city. It would be much worse but we have lots of hospital beds and excellent healthcare infrastructure here.
