Fucking hell these answers are depressing. Has anyone got anything that's not to do with weight or how you look?!

DorisDances · 08/05/2020 17:10

Make sure your pension is on track, do Pilates, treasure your friends, keep your pelvic floor in good nick and get a dog

I did mention about my hobbies and interests and how important they are and that I think it's good not to live in the past but keep on trend with things that culturally interest you.

Almostfifty · 08/05/2020 17:14

Exercise. You'll put on weight during menopause and that will help stop it becoming too much. I do a weight class weekly along with circuit and HIIT classes. I'm much fitter now I'm on my way to my sixties than I was on my way to my fifties.

StealthPolarBear · 08/05/2020 17:16

Stealth, aged forty-and-a-half, checking in

Yes OK - apart from the diminishing of physical allure I am WAY more happy at 59 than I ever was in my overworked, stressed out 40s.
Decided to retire (from teaching) early a couple of years ago as did my DH. I wake up early and have my coffee with the birds every morning and can do exactly what I want to do, when I want to do it.
So - get your private/occupational pension sorted.

When you're carrying six stones of excess fat, it kinda defines your life. If you've never had the problem ..... lucky, lucky you Blush

And quite what's depressing, I'm not sure.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 08/05/2020 17:22

Mine wasn't looks or weight based.

ssd · 08/05/2020 17:25

Don't fear the menopause. Mines been fine, barely noticed a thing. And no more periods is brilliant.

Holothane · 08/05/2020 17:27

I’m 53 now and it’s lovely not caring what society thinks, enjoy hobbies health worries will be an issue I’m crippled now arthritis so make the most of cooking or whatever your thing is. Happier not I’m much happier now than in any other decade.

hullabaloo68 · 08/05/2020 17:28

Never leave the house without checking your chin for that random whisker that apparently grows overnight always carry tweezers

Valenciaoranges · 08/05/2020 17:29

Definitely sort out any debt!! It’s just not worth it. I am paying off a large amount due to some personal issues. I’m 55, still fit and healthy, gone through the menopause - wasn’t ideal, but just pushed through it. I try and always be positive because I suffer from very poor mental health. I still feel 40, my skin is good, but my weight is a bit of an issue.

ssd · 08/05/2020 17:31

Well done nucelegs

Craftycorvid · 08/05/2020 17:37

I’m 53. If you’re nearer 43 (or any age really)

Do NOT put off doing what you know deep down you want or need to do, because....

Menopause hits you with all your unfinished business seemingly all at once.

On the other hand....

Growing older is a huge privilege.

Exercise - not only for your weight and looks but for your mind and spirit.

Sunblock - hat, especially if you is ginger (or harbouring the gene).

Therapy. Not just for point number two either. Worth every penny and needn’t be weekly.

Wear what you damn well like now, in the future and always.

D1stancet00far · 08/05/2020 17:52

For any age

Write a list of things that you want to do & do them
Do the things that you enjoy
Try some new things

No point in getting ( if you are lucky) to 80+ with poor health & thinking " I wish I had done X,Y,Z"

ssd · 08/05/2020 17:52

Good points crafty.
Also, don't keep stuff for 'good'. For 'best'.

Now is good, now is best.

You're a long time died, as they say.

Saggingninja · 08/05/2020 18:09

Therapy sorted out the toxic tangles in my head. You might have to shop around as therapy is much like any other service industry. There are good and bad therapists. But find a good one, stick at it and it will be worth every penny in terms of peace and acceptance.

Do yoga. There are plenty of free online classes. Nothing better for your mind and body.

I changed careers in my fifties. It was good for my soul to be taking orders from people twenty years younger, but bad for my ego. Very glad I did though. I didn't want to be like my former colleagues - (and myself) complaining constantly about their job.

I used to be consumed with worry about what other people thought of me. Couldn't give a stuff now.

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 08/05/2020 18:16

Say yes to everything. Before it gets harder to do

halexanderamilton · 08/05/2020 18:16

Get fit and get to a healthy weight. At 50 it suddenly gets harder and you feel every single ache and pain much more. I wish beyond anything else that I had done this.

D1stancet00far · 08/05/2020 18:18

My suggestion was nothing related to weight or appearance

Ginfordinner · 08/05/2020 18:36

The menopause, like labour is different for everyone. Some women find it a real trial, but not all of us do. I'm 61, and apart from the odd power surge and headache the menopause wasn't a big deal at all.

I do pilates twice a week, and am currently doing a lot of walking. My joints are fine, so is my core strength (probably due to pilates) and my BMI is bang in the middle of the recommended range.

I would say the main thing to keep an eye on is your weight (cos diabetes).

ErrolTheDragon · 08/05/2020 18:40

I don't think I mentioned weight or appearance either. Confused
Selective reading?Grin

The main themes are mostly health and well-being in some form or another, I'd have said.
