And don't panic about turning 60 either!

Movinghouseatlast · 08/05/2020 15:38

Appreciate every moment because time just speeds up. The last 10 years have gone in the blink of an eye. Similarly, if you need to make a life change crack on and do it as soon as you can. Life is too short.

If you dont exercise, start now so that it is a habit and DO NOT STOP. Even if you hate exercise, just do it.

Put sun cream on your chest as well as you face every day.

JeanfromAccounts · 08/05/2020 15:43

Unless you talk yourself old (like lots of women on MN do) then you won't feel much different than you did in your 40s.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/05/2020 15:43

Get a physiotherapist to teach you weight bearing, balance, core strengthening exercises.

Or a good Pilates instructor.

Specific tip ... do squats etc and aim to never need to use your hands to get out of a chair or up off the floor. (And also avoids becoming a person who goes 'oof' as they collapse into a chair.Grin)

Wear every sleeveless top or dress you own as much as you can.

Even with regular exercise, somehow your upper arms get very saggy in your 50s

DianaT1969 · 08/05/2020 15:59

@grobagsforever - the poster only said to wear sunscreen on the face and to stop sunbathing. I hope that most people know it's good to get 15-30 mins of sunshine on arms and legs when out walking without sunscreen. I do that, but I won't be sunbathing for hours and I wear sunscreen on my face if hot sun.

From someone in their very late 50s to a 40 something woman - Look in the mirror every day and bask in the glory of your appearance. You are gorgeous.
No matter what your physical hang ups are now, in 10 years time you will look at photos of yourself then and realise how lovely you actually were.

growinggreyer · 08/05/2020 16:08

Pay attention to your teeth. If you don't floss religiously get into the habit or even better get a waterpick. Your gums will be receding little by little and its so noticeable by 50.

It's the other way round for me. I spent my 40s manically avoiding mirrors. And now I'm into my 50s, I look in the mirror and think: 'Yeah, you scrub up OK for a 50 something'.

I was only 39 in the first pic Blush

Your 50s will be fab Smile

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 16:15

Ah, forgot the evidence.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 16:17

Ah, no I didn't. It's hot. I'm in lockdown on my own. I've no idea what day it is. I'm not operating within defined parameters Shock

rosegoldwatcher · 08/05/2020 16:18

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace - In that case can I have my 40s and your 50s please?

OhioOhioOhio · 08/05/2020 16:20

NiceLegs

You look amazing!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 16:20

Please don't take my 50s: I'm seriously LOVING them. Well, I was. And will be again, once I get out of this bloody prison house Blush

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 16:23

@OhioOhioOhio

Thank you so much Blush More importantly though ..... I feel amazing. I didn't realise how much of an effect all that weight was having on my everyday life. I wasted most of my 40s that way Sad

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/05/2020 16:23

Great thread and at 42 I'm following with interest!

chickedeee · 08/05/2020 16:24

nicelegs wow!

How did you slim down?

notacooldad · 08/05/2020 16:25

To be fair my arms, shoulders and back are in better shape than ever. I've ditched a lot of cardio and I've been doing heavy ( for me!) weights.
I'm thrilled with them!

JaneJeffer · 08/05/2020 16:26

Get some strong deodorant.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 16:29

@chickedeee

Not popular with everyone but ..... Weight Watchers. I also took up heavy lifting about halfway through the weight loss, which no doubt helped.

Not if you train the shit out of them, they don't @notacooldad is spot on Smile

chickedeee · 08/05/2020 16:31

Thanks nicelegs you look so different!

I need to loose weight, 47, but struggle to be motivated!

Low energy but worried about 50's as the weight will only go one way if I let it Sad

shamalidacdak · 08/05/2020 16:37

Focus on your health and your money. Check on your retirement funds. Can you live on them from age 65 onwards? If not, start building them up by bringing in more money with a better job and side hustles. Don't rely on a man or the state to care for you in old age. Eat less, exercise everyday and meditate.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 16:38

@chickedeee

I'm a very ordinary person: full-time job, live on the edge of a large city, like to eat out, like to go down the footie on a Saturday: normal, everyday stuff.

I just woke up one day in mid to late 40s and thought, fuck this: don't want tomorrow to be like today.

Get the bank holiday weekend out of the way and then resolve to start on Monday. Deal? You got this. It's not as hard as you'd imagine; promise Smile
