Drowning in chick peas..any ideas?!

We must have around ten jars of chickpeas..I didn’t bulk buy 😂just what has accumulated over the weeks, without being used. Been spending far too much on the weekly/fortnightly shop since lockdown and want to go easy on this week’s amount. Any ideas for dinners involving chickpeas? Then I can just buy bits to add to them..I generally only do a chickpea curry with spinach, coconut milk etc..gorgeous but that’s all I really know?

@foamrolling 😂
I did see a recipe somewhere once for hummus coated chicken that I always fancied trying. Also for a tomato purée substitute on homemade pizza. Iceland do a version of this which is gorgeous.

Combine chickpeas with onions, garlic, red wine/stock, olives if you like them, in a casserole with sausages. Bake till sausages are done, serve with pasta or flat breads. Quick and easy.

I like them in a green spring soup too, onion, leeks, garlic, finely diced celery, broccoli florets, chopped green beans, chickpeas, add spinach frozen or fresh at the end of cooking. Serve with grated Parmesan.

I've not rtft but I use them in tagines, in sausage casseroles, stew type things. I do a lot of slow cooker meals so put it anything that needs bulking up

Use the Aquafaba to make meringue!

AnnieMaul · 07/05/2020 21:48

Mash them up and mix with mayo and sweetcorn for a nice alternative to "tuna". It works really well in jacket potatoes, baguettes, sandwiches etc

I also add a bit of garlic salt and pepper seasoning to mine.

Look for Jack Munro' s chickpea and peach curry - delicious!

I fry a bit of onion and garlic and put a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin of chickpeas in with a few herbs. Also works with haricot beans. We had something similar in a tapas bar on holiday once and I recreated it at home as its the only way my kids will eat chickpeas.

LoutyBooty · 07/05/2020 21:57

Sweet and sour chicken but use chickpeas instead, theres a recipe on pinterest.

Make a buddha bowl with them, grain, few different veg, chickpeas and a sauce delish.
I like spicy maple chickpeas, rice, roasted sweet potato with smoked paprika, roasted broccoli, steamed red cabbage, sliced avocado with a tahini dressing 😀

ellanwood · 07/05/2020 21:58

DH tosses them in garlic paste and chilli or harissa then roasts them with red peppers and onions, served with rice. They go crunchy on the outside.

or cook them with smoky paprika, cumin, lemon, onions, peppers, carrots and tomatoes, with a dollop of sour cream at the end, like a sort of chick pea goulash.

magicmallow · 07/05/2020 21:59

I did read something about dessert hummus - basically sweet blended chickpeas with chocolate and other yummy things mixed in. not tried but might be worth a go!? a bit different.

Phineyj · 07/05/2020 22:00

You should not be drowning in chickpeas.
They are a solid not a liquid.

Hummus. Mmmmmm.

We make patties using mashed chickpeas and finely chop/ mash whatever veg we have about, a bit of spice/herbs, 2 eggs and enough flour to make a cake like consistency. Fry in batches in a frying pan with a little oil. Dcs love them. There are loads of recipes online, but we make them up as we go along depending on what we have left over. They freeze pretty well too and we just defrost for a couple of hours and either eat cold or reheat in a frying pan.

olderthanilookapparently · 07/05/2020 22:03

Show cooker, chicken thighs (on bone) tin tomatoes, tin chickpeas, chunks of chorizo, smoked paprika, onion, tomato puree cook on low for 5 hours then serve with pitta bread.

olderthanilookapparently · 07/05/2020 22:05

And chilli flakes, fresh chilli if you want it hot

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/05/2020 22:05

Yes, the Thug Kitchen chickpea and broccoli wraps are delish. Think we'll have them tomorrow actually. Yum.

LouiseTrees · 07/05/2020 22:20

A casserole with sausages and tomatoes in as well as the chickpeas.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/05/2020 22:24

Cook off an onion, garlic, celery, a pepper, and a carrot in olive oil (chopped obviously), bung in your chickpeas, and a tin of tomatoes. Pinch of smoked paprika, pinch of harissa spices, some chilli flakes if you want. Simmer it down for as long as possible. Serve with pitta breads, and a dollop of Greek yoghurt.

Works well cold for lunch the next day, and if you eat meat you can whack in leftover chicken the day after a roast, or some cooked chorizo.
