To wish I could wear children's clothes?

Since having my daughters I've become envious of children's fashion. It's so easy to find gorgeous little casual dresses, skirts and leggings in comfortable, good quality cotton. Lovely muted pastel colours and cute prints too. Are there any brands that do this kind of thing for adults? I'm a SAHM so I want comfortable clothes but equally I don't want to live in loungewear or sportswear all the time.

If I could find something like this in my size I would buy it! mini-mono.com/collections/ss20/products/mary-to-add-prima-ballerina-dress

I'm small, but I can't wear clothes for five year olds. Maybe for 12-year olds I could. Any tips?

Frugi have an adult range.

I don't care for dresses or cutesy, frilly stuff for either of us, but I do sometimes wish I could wear some of my DD's leggings and tops because they are cool! She has unicorn leggings that I covet Grin

@jkscot you sound like a playground bully.
Tip, act your age

I know what you mean...my niece is two and has a much better wardrobe than me!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 07/05/2020 10:38

Yeah I like the bright colours. They seem to vanish when you get to adulthood!

ScarfLadysBag · 07/05/2020 10:39

It's just standard for that poster. I've never seen them post anything nice or friendly or supportive on any thread 🤷‍♀️ It's odd.

Piccalilly do some limited women's stuff too. I'm
very tempted to buy the duck sweater they have at the moment too, as DD is currently obsessed with ducks and she would be so excited if i appeared wearing it! Grin

I know what you mean about cotton clothes. I love cotton summer dresses but they're not easy to find. Next sometimes have them. I got a nice one in H&M last year.

userabcname · 07/05/2020 10:42

That ballerina dress in the OP - Elsie's Attic do tulle skirts like that. You could pair with a cotton vest top for a similar look.

Tinty · 07/05/2020 10:42

The problem is they look cute on little ones and the idea is nice, but the reality is that if you put a grown woman with all the accompanying bumps and lumps in a dress like that it wouldn’t look so good.

However on the other hand if you have a magnificent figure and are smallish of boob, fancy dress shops do adult clothing like the dress pictured.

CockCarousel · 07/05/2020 10:42

I actually clicked on an ad that had some lovely separates the other day, and was so disappointed they only went up to primary school age.

I do dress a bit like a children's TV presenter I suppose.

PapayaCoconut · 07/05/2020 10:42

I realised now looking at Boden that they do matching outfits for children and adults... It's just that I find them a bit pricey!

Marks and spencer used to have a range of brightly coloured jeans - pink, teal, mint, red, blue etc. They seem to have gone back to mostly greys, blues and blacks now. Devastated.

Lockheart · 07/05/2020 10:44

There's an independent maker called InterrobangArt who does fun skirts for adults. She handmakes everything herself. I have a skirt from her and I'm very happy with it.

Reversiblesequinsforadults · 07/05/2020 10:46

I know what you mean. H&M always have simple summer dresses in nice prints for £4 that my daughter wears all summer. I want some.

rooty123 · 07/05/2020 10:46

I wear Boden age 13 all the time. I'm short, size 12.

Camomila · 07/05/2020 10:47

My favourite jumper is a primark girls age 13. Its lovely and boxy like a mans jumper would be (mens are way too big for me though) and has a nice floral pattern.

I also buy girls trainers and boots as I'm a 4/4.5.

Other stuff the fit is wrong for a woman (too big on the waist and too small on the boobs/hips)

PapayaCoconut · 07/05/2020 10:49

I'm very flat chested and slim build (though not "magnificent" by any means!)

Thanks for the tip, but it's not necessarily the ballerina style in after per se - my second link is probably a better example of what I mean. (And fancy dress stuff is usually made from polyester...)

Would love some of the pinafore dress

PapayaCoconut · 07/05/2020 10:51

The Elsie's attic skirts are beautiful, but way to dressy for the school run! 😅

Maybe the answer is to find kidswear that goes up to age 12/13!

How about this kind of thing?

Boden goes up to age 15-16 and that fit me fine when I was a size 8! Probably wouldn't fit me now though at 10-12
