Not really an AIBU. Just curious when Boris announces he's going to unlock the lockdown will that mean cleaners will be allowed to work again? Will you be happy to have yours back?
I'm self employed and need to get back for the money?

They are allowed in now. Always have been

Ilets · 07/05/2020 06:24

Cleaners can work already? Mine chose not to but that's up to her. I would have kept her but I don't know if I will now, we have a bit if a routine going and it seems okay.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/05/2020 06:28

We are all going to have to make our own decisions going forward... Cleaners need their livelihood. Some people need Cleaners as they can't physically do it themselves. Others need Cleaners for time. I expect both sides will take precautions.

Gunpowder · 07/05/2020 06:28

I’ve got mine back now. Smile We have her two days, 6 hours a day so she isn’t going from house to house. DH picks her up and drops her home so she doesn’t have to go on the bus. I have never been more pleased to see anyone in my life! If it wasn’t for distancing I would have hugged her.

Oysterbabe · 07/05/2020 06:33

We're going to have ours back as soon as the schools are back.

Gunpowder · 07/05/2020 06:33

Dalama if you are happy to go back I would text your favourite clients and say so, you could take different clothes to work in and reassure them that (obviously) your hand hygiene is exemplary and you could even offer to wear a mask. I bet your clients will jump at the chance if they aren’t shielding.

The guidance states you can go to work if you can’t work at home and has been quietly updated to say that nannies can work, I would have thought that cleaning is lower risk than childcare.

Nacreous · 07/05/2020 06:35

Still allowed at the moment, as they have been throughout.

I am the only person who has kept my cleaner on, and I am so so glad she's still coming as I have been working 60 hours a week (NHS) and it's saved my sanity. I said she didn't have to come if she didn't want to of course, and I'm out all the time she comes.

user1487194234 · 07/05/2020 06:40

Mine had a few weeks off,I paid her of course
Now back thankfully

concernedforthefuture · 07/05/2020 06:49

Cleaners have always been allowed to work (as was anyone who had a job that they couldn't do from home).

GeriGeranium · 07/05/2020 06:50

They’ve always been allowed to work.

heartsonacake · 07/05/2020 07:01

They’ve always been allowed to work.

Biscuit0110 · 07/05/2020 07:11

No one I know have had cleaners in their homes for the last six weeks. The advice at the time was only work and travel if essential/key worker, I would not have wanted to take the risk in the middle of the peak. There was thread after thread about whether to pay them still etc.

I am planning for my cleaner to return next week. You should mention to your clients you are happy to return when they are, careful restrictions in place.

KingJarvis · 07/05/2020 07:14

The advice at the time was only work and travel if essential/key worker

Nope, the advice wasn’t that at the time or I’d have stopped working.

Ilets · 07/05/2020 07:15

That wasn't the advice. A lot of people enjoyed the whole drama of it, imo, and rushed to shut up shop.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/05/2020 07:18

My cleaner has (thankfully) been coming throughout. I'm working from home in a room she doesnt clean so we have maintained social distancing. Lots of soap n water involved and house well-aired.

Longwhiskers14 · 07/05/2020 07:24

We've carried on paying ours throughout but I don't know feasibly when we can have her back in because she's a single mum and her child can't go to school right now, meaning if she wanted to come she'd have to bring him with her, which we just wouldn't risk at the moment.

choc71 · 07/05/2020 07:28

Absolutely we'll have our cleaner back, she's amazing, but I hope she's going to be impressed with how ruthlessly I've blitzed the house in the last 7 weeks 'Grin.
Beauticians too, I need them open a.s.a.p. I'll be knocking on the door of mine the minute they announce they can open again. I'm ready, keys in hand.

Dalamalama · 07/05/2020 07:38

I have kept on cleaning for a few as they wanted me too, whereas others didn't. I saw a client yesterday and told her to let me know when she wanted me back.

I'm giving up with a few (perfect opportunity!)and the others I'll just tell them I'm ready when they want me.

king then why did every business in the land close including every single cleaning agency? Why did beauty salons close? Nail bars, hairdressers, shops and even refuse centres and car wash centres that are outside and could more or less safely operate?? Even my window cleaner isn't working despite working alone and outside!

Why have almost every company more or less that can not work from home, outside food production and fuel closed for six weeks if we were all 'allowed' to work and carry on as normal???

You are know this is not what happened at all. Everything closed down literally overnight.

KingJarvis · 07/05/2020 07:46

Every business didn’t close or I’d have stopped working. I’ve worked throughout this pandemic and it’s not essential. Ffs. Are you saying I’m lying? Because I’m not. There were loads of non essential businesses open

crispysausagerolls · 07/05/2020 07:47

@biscuit0110

Every cleaning company didn’t close. We moved at the very beginning of lockdown (literally a day before it was banned to move) and fantastic cleaners, the cleaning company, did the end of tenancy clean.

AnnaNimmity · 07/05/2020 07:47

I haven't had mine yet - she initially made the decision to stay away, but asked to come back last week. I haven't let her back (I am paying her) because there are 7 people in my house and it's impossible to be distant at all.

But I think if you are both happy with the level of risk and can minimise it, cleaners are allowed in the house.

daisypond · 07/05/2020 07:50

Cleaners have always been allowed to work. As has everyone who cannot work from home or whose business premises has not been shut by the government.

CoffeeRevelLove · 07/05/2020 07:51

@Nacreous I could've written your post, identical in every way - weird!

Biscuit0110 · 07/05/2020 07:52

Would you mind telling me what businesses are open and trading in your area? Because in ours supermarkets, petrol stations and pharmacies are open and that is it!

There is now cleaning services anywhere, florists are closed, no beauty services anywhere, no dry cleaners, window cleaning, no maintenance of homes unless it is outside, decorator and tiling companies are all closed, courts are all closed in this area unless it is for urgent work only. Dentistry and all the rest - all closed. Everything is closed.

Many businesses are still open working from home and some companies that are able to use delivery or courier services, but I fail to see what services are still open.....beyond the very basic essential needs.
