to think it's far too early for mil to be asking kids what they want for christmas?

My mil does this every year - asks us ridiculously early what we want for christmas. But the other day she came round and actually asked the kids (aged 6 and 4) what they wanted from santa and started talking about writing him a letter etc.

Now AIBU that it's far too early for kids to start thinking about this as it just drags christmas out for a long time (and they change their minds nearer the time anyway!)

She doesn't need to save btw she just likes shopping without all the queues and hassle. She says she hates christmas and will only get the kids 1 present each and then arrives christmas eve with a bin bag of presents EACH!!

Asking them is unreasonable, asking you what you think they might like wouldn't be. Some of our relatives start asking about October, but only in a 'have you got any ideas yet or could you start thinking' sort of way.

My brother in law is the best - I just shove lots of things on our Amazon wish list, annotated with who might like what, he orders it all and wraps it. Our children are always so amazed that their uncle knows EXACTLY what book/CD etc they want!

What annoys me about my family and ILs is they all seem to expect me to come up with wide and varied ideas, but do not seem willing to return the favour.

i think its nice she is asking, ive nearly done my xmas shopping as i buy stuff over the yr.

Nemo2007 · 18/09/2007 10:24

HA my mil told me last xmas what she was getting DD1 this year!!!!

At least she is asking and I dont blame her for wanting to be prepared.

bozza · 18/09/2007 10:26

So what is it nemo?

Nemo2007 · 18/09/2007 10:30

pmsl its a dolls pram with hgihchair the works set..although she has now turned it into a twin set so the girls can share!

she sounds like my MIL who booked ds' present this weekend. she likes to try to get the most popular present though and also ends up buying stuff I wanted to get him. Last year turned up the week before Christmas with a musical ball when I'd got him one from Santa.

Oh MIL's do like to buy dolls and prams etc IME. Should have guessed! DD is after a boy Baby Born, but I think MIL will disapprove - she thinks dolls should be dressed in pink.

DD is also only granddaughter on both sides (and my SIL's unborn baby is also a boy) so lots of dresses (when DD wants to wear leggings all the time) and lots of dolls (when DD is quite partial to cars - well what would you expect with a big brother and all those boy cousins?).

Nemo2007 · 18/09/2007 10:39
