Customers in supermarket queues buying 2 items

justasking111 · 06/05/2020 14:13

After a week of emptying cupboards reluctantly went out this morning. Standing in Tesco queue, two over 70s ladies behind me. one had given the other a lift. What do you need the driver said, oh just some cheese and a newspaper. They were not switched on by social distancing either despite the clear marks on the pavement.

Now I do think if you are over 70 and determined to get out well on your head be it. But for two items, for christs sake.

AIBU I being unreasonable to think that if you go to a supermarket it is to seriously stock up not for 2 items?

Well with the positive figures not falling around 6k every day,

In fairness, the number of positive figures now includes people who wouldn't have been tested a couple of weeks ago, so it is very difficult to compare them.

We're all supposed to be going shopping ONCE a week and if they don't have what you want you go without.

You’ve just shat that out of your arse. Please show me where in the legislation it says any such thing.

BruceAndNosh · 08/05/2020 15:49

There is NO rule about only shopping once a week.
I can manage on a once weekly shop so that's all I do, because shopping at the moment is a pain in the ass. But that's my decision not Rules

Wow, using the sad death of a baby to justify a made up rule...that's some class you've got.

Taddda · 08/05/2020 15:58

When I did my shop they didn't have formula, shall I let my baby Dd just go without then? I'm sure she can wait a week, bit harsh but if thems the rules.....Hmm

kingis · 08/05/2020 15:59

In my opinion you can go without cheese until you do your big shop again.

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 16:01

Good thing you’re not making the rules, then.

user200000000 · 08/05/2020 16:03

No one should have to go without cheese.

yellowbrickwhorl · 08/05/2020 16:10

If I do a big shop and the supermarket I happen to choose has run out of basic staples, then I will need to go somewhere else as well. I don't know about some of you, but it isn't all that easy to make lunchbox sandwiches for four working adults for a week without any bread.

ZaraW · 08/05/2020 16:13

Luckily your opinion is irrelevant.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 08/05/2020 16:16

After 7 weeks of this I'm surprised people have the energy to give a fuck about how often other people go shopping

I have most things delivered but if I run put of bread, milk or cheese I'll go to the corner shop and pick some up. How the hell strangers online feel they have the right to decide if thats essential to my household i dont know

saraclara · 08/05/2020 16:16

I can't believe that after all this time there are STILL people like @FelicisNox who don't know what the rules are, so are making them up for themselves.

You've been asked several times @FelicisNox to provide a link to this 'rule'. But you haven't. It's okay to say that you were mistaken.

yellowbrickwhorl · 08/05/2020 16:26

Until you get your heads around this and pack it the eff in this will not go away

Hate to break it to you, but even if we all only go out to shop once a week, it isn't going to go away just like that. If indeed it ever does.

celan · 08/05/2020 16:30

@kingis What "big shop" is this? I have a health condition which means I can't carry much. I have no car. I have a family who, inconveniently, won't stop eating. So I do a "small shop" every day.

Just saying.

kingis · 08/05/2020 16:35

Big shop is a delivery from a shop for example.

Going to shops and queuing outside doesn't really appeal to me anyway.

Theukisgreatt · 08/05/2020 16:38

I agree with you OP. Anyone popping to Tesco for 2 items is unreasonable. Makes the queue longer for everyone else too.

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 16:39

Going to shops and queuing outside doesn't really appeal to me anyway

And of course those of us with no choice are absolutely loving it.

Theukisgreatt · 08/05/2020 16:40

There are obviously exceptions like medicine or when things are missed from an online shop that are essential but cheese, no.

SudokuBook · 08/05/2020 16:43

Not even if your online shop didn’t bring cheese and your child with sensory issues will only eat macaroni cheese?

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/05/2020 16:43

when things are missed from an online shop that are essential but cheese, no

Ok, so what’s an essential food item?

Theukisgreatt · 08/05/2020 16:44

I think it's extremely unlikely that very specific example applied to the woman in the queue Hmm

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 08/05/2020 16:47

Well exactly @SudokuBook 2 of mine have spd mainly around food. The little one has just found a love of cheese wrap and lettuce also milk. He's not drank milk since he stopped bf 4 years ago. I'll continue nipping to the corner shop if I need to

BirdieFriendReturns · 08/05/2020 16:47

Babies dying are a tragedy but this has no bearing on the situation.

www.who.int/pmnch/media/press_materials/fs/fs_newborndealth_illness/en/

There are 8.2 million deaths a year of children under 5.

“ The three major causes of neonatal deaths worldwide are infections (36%, which includes sepsis/pneumonia, tetanus and diarrhoea), pre-term (28%), and birth asphyxia (23%). There is some variation between countries depending on their care configurations.”

That’s a tragedy too but nobody seems bothered about that.

Theukisgreatt · 08/05/2020 16:47

I didn't say food Hmm but to answer your question I was thinking more loo roll.

I'm sure there are essential food items for some people, but I can't think of anything I couldn't do without for a few days.
