I thought only teenage boys did this??
So annoying?? He's almost middle aged, all I can hear is button mashing and
F#@k!!! F#@£&G F#&ER!!!
F@#K OFF!! You c#@t!!

Really?? I've said stop it, I'm sure the kids can hear you, but no no. It's a real life or death situation if you can't kill the dragon with your elderflower potions.

I swore at animal crossing too because no matter what I do I cannot get that fifth star rating. 😅 I swear when Arthur Morgan gets jumped my rival gang members and I loose my favourite horse in red dead redemption!

@iklboo no - it’s me who wears the headphones, to block him out Grin

Lostvoiced · 03/05/2020 17:07

I'm more astonished he's swearing at Final Fantasy! It's not a particularly rage inducing game.

Not gonna lie this is a pet peeve of mine too. Dont really have a solution other than to tell him not to play it if he cant control himself.

okiedokieme · 03/05/2020 17:11

Normal alas, it's why I have a stbexh,

iklboo · 03/05/2020 17:11

Oh yes I got you, you just reminded me of when he wears headphones Grin

WeirdAndPissedOff · 03/05/2020 17:18

I've managed to avoid swearing at FF7 remake yet, although I'm finding I'm dying against bosses much more frequently than in the original! (Like a pp, I've also been admiring how "soft" Cloud looks now - he's very pretty, and his hair looks really soft/fluffy). Grin
It's a soft rule in this house that adults and children are not allowed to play Minecraft together - otherwise there would be a significant chunk of new vocabulary learned every time an inventory full of goodies is lost due to lava or a creeper blast!

Honestly there's different extremes - if he's just venting and letting off steam at the game, and it doesn't affect anything else then there's no issue IMO. However if a loss in the game puts him in a black mood and family members have to tread on eggshells around him then a discussion is needed.

RebelWhoWashesFor19Seconds · 03/05/2020 17:28

DD was 12 and playing Tomb Raider. Lara kept dying and it's the first time I heard DD swear.
I just looked at her, she went bright red and I just shrugged. It was a fair point. Lara Croft was deserving a curse word Grin

BittersweetMemories · 03/05/2020 17:47

We've been playing the remastered Crash Bandicoot the past week (taking turns about when we get game over) and the language and rage from both of us has been obsence. Fucking Crash Bandicoot, little prick has been my favourite.

I don't mind it personally, but we don't have kids. I don't know what else DP should be doing during lock down if not playing his game.

I do find it unattractive when he plays COD though and I don't know why, all this quick he's gone up there, I've tagged him, get him! Just makes me feel a bit ick, so I just go to bed and watch something on TV.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/05/2020 17:52

Swearing at FF seems a bit extream, although I do turn the air blue playing Call of Duty.

MrsTumbletap · 05/05/2020 03:27

Yep my husband does the same at Fifa, maybe not swearing but thumping the footstool. With a "For gods sake!" "Argghhhh"

I love a good swear, and if I'm on Mario Kart, nearly winning and you shoot me with a blue shell, many, many obscenities will come from my mouth! "Fucking bastards!".

So I totally get the gaming/swearing combination.

If you are upset or bothered by swearing dear lord you must find the world hard, you little snowflakes.

LaMarschallin · 05/05/2020 03:38

Is he shouting "Ballsack"?

Thepigeonsarecoming · 05/05/2020 03:56

If you don’t swear at animated characters on a game then you aren’t truly committed! 😂

safariboot · 05/05/2020 12:01

I play games. Sure, I swear sometimes, but not constantly. IMHO effing and blinding non stop isn't nice, it's immature, it's highly inappropriate in a family home with children, and I don't think it's healthy.

I'm pretty sure Barret never swears where Marlene can hear.

NotACleverName · 05/05/2020 12:06

I swore at Animal Crossing AGAIN yesterday. Apparently dumping 40 stacks of turnips on the beach isn’t the best thing for the overall island rating.

Bloke23 · 05/05/2020 14:21

Yeah im a gamer, certian games can be really frustrating especially shooter games like cod and battlefield 😂

NaviSprite · 05/05/2020 14:29

Good point @safariboot he doesn’t!

I’ll swear under my breath at certain games (exclusively played when my DC are asleep!) but I don’t see why yelling and constant swearing is needed, if I get that annoyed at a game I see it as a good time to put the controller down! When I was pregnant with my twins I played Stardew Valley and Yonder Cloudcatcher Chronicles a lot, two of the most chilled games I’ve ever enjoyed. When I was sleep deprived towards the end of said pregnancy even those games gave me ‘the rage’ on occasion!

The worst DH has heard since my twins were born was a very loud “fuck this!” when I had dug out my old SEGA and playing Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion (the bloody library levels!). That was when they were staying over at my mums though 😂

NaviSprite · 05/05/2020 14:31

Also I have no issue with swearing, just not too happy when it’s in front of young kids!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 05/05/2020 14:46

I realised I had been playing civilization VI for too long yesterday when I found myself saying "Oh sod off Ghandi!"

In the summer when all the neighbour windows were opened I could hear a lot of angry guttural screaming, angry cursing, one sided nasty conversations (presumably to opponents on a game). I still hear it sometimes but glad most peoples windows are closed now!

Usually, pre covid, it would be football on sky they’d be cursing at. Or as they stoat up the road pished and angry because their team got beat. Loudly and very aggressively cursing. And kicking the street dustbin over. (I’m sure the council love them)

I hate it.

I also don’t get why people get so angry at games when there are more important things to get angry at, and yet they don’t seem to go radio rental about that...! Hmm

Nonamesavail · 06/12/2020 12:54

My husband never swears! Like I've genuinely never heard him swear. Teenager son however throws a wobbler on COD most nights!

BiBabbles · 06/12/2020 13:10

A curse now and then, wouldn't bother me. I do it occasionally when I'm gaming or doing another hobby that's getting frustrating (though I'm more likely to grumble to myself).

When it happens over and over and over, I remind them that they're actively choosing to spend their free time doing something that doesn't seem to be making them happy and are now sharing the misery with the rest of us.

My teenager has learned to switch between games when he's getting that annoyed at it. Not sure if it's because he's learned to find happier uses of his time or just doesn't want to hear me point it out anymore, but it's a win for me either way.
