I like anything by Nigel Slater and the Hairy Bikers. Always easy and comfortable recipes and not faffy. But I also just often google ingredients and try random online recipes.

Nigel Slaters fast food, Marcella Hazan, my nan's old Good Housekeeping, Delia's complete, Hairy bikers and a really really old Mary Berry.

I love cookery books and I cook a lot but Jamie can't do baking at all, Stein goes on a bit and the rest wibble about. Hollywood might have flashy bread kudos but none of his loaves work as well as Delia's basic white. My very old from my nan Mary Berry has the best cakes. My very old Good Housekeeping has the most frugal and best stews and casseroles.

The high water mark is Delia's Complete though. 13 year old DS has taken a recipe every other day and cooked us dinner and they have all worked. He even made his first loaf following the instructions. She's not high fashion or insta or whatever but the recipes work - all of them. Whereas Jamie, Nigella etc are all a bit hit or miss. Jamie in particular can't get his baking proportions right.

The Roasting Tin and the Green Roasting Tin are excellent. I like Miss South for slow cooking. And Nigel Slater's EAT if you're only cooking for one or two people.

Good housekeeping recipes are nice and easy. I also have two volumes of Sainsbury's cookbook that has lots of variety with simple ingredients.

@easedale and @OhTheRoses

I have found my people.

Maye we can have a virtual meal, we can all cook the same recipe and open some wine.
