I like the Good Food site. You can put in an ingredient and see what it comes up with.

gavisconismyfriend · 02/05/2020 16:13

Made in India by Meera Sodha - best curry book ever!

Dontlikeoranges · 02/05/2020 16:13

I have TONS of cookbooks, cooking is my passion there are many chefs I admire hugely but it's got to be said much as he annoys me Jamie Oliver's recipes get the most thumbs up from the family by far.

whichteaareyou · 02/05/2020 16:30

Pinch of nom- both of them. Use them multiple times a week

LakieLady · 02/05/2020 16:36

Another Nigel Slater fan here. I don't have any of his books, but I do have a very well-worn selection of his recipes clipped from The Observer.

They always work, don't tend to require masses of obscure ingredients, aren't unduly complicated and taste bloody fab.

I think I'd like to live in a menage a trois with Nigel Slater and Monty Don. Monty could grow the veg and Nigel could cook them.

augustusglupe · 02/05/2020 16:44

Just popping back to say, when DD moved away I gave her my Jamie’s Ministry of Food. It’s a good basic starter book for any novices to cooking.
Ditto Delias Complete Cookery Course. Mum bought it me when I first got married. Agree with other posters, it’s a brilliant go to book.

ASNW5 · 02/05/2020 16:54

My most-used cookbooks are by Meera Sodha!

Nacreous · 02/05/2020 17:11

I like Jamie's ministry of food, nigella express, and Diana Henry's oven to table.

cosytoaster · 02/05/2020 17:19

I came on to say the Green Roasting Tin but have been beaten to it several times

FinallyHere · 02/05/2020 19:29

Ménage a trios

😆

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 03/05/2020 00:31

We have several of those mentioned by PP but I'd also like to mention Sophie Wright's Home at 7, Dinner at 8. We have a number of great staples from this.

katscamel · 03/05/2020 00:38

I love cookery books and have a pretty good selection....just need to use them. Do like two chubby cubs (you do need a sense of humour though) and their recipes on their blog. Also get things online... Pinterest always has a good selection, or from supermarket magazines.

clevername · 03/05/2020 00:39

Another vote for The Green Roasting Tin - it's my kind of cooking (one pot, easy etc) , and everything we've had has been delicious.

Also:
Fresh India - Meera Sodha
River Cottage Everyday and Veg Everyday - Hugh F-W
River Cafe Book Easy and Two Easy

... Are all well - thumbed staples

noodlezoodle · 03/05/2020 01:38

Melissa Clark's "Dinner" is one of my favourites. Really delicious.

I also love the blog How Sweet Eats - a few of her recipes are in regular rotation at our house although they're not always the healthiest option.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 03/05/2020 01:41

I use the hello Fresh cook book, it's good and easy to follow, but some of the food can be a bit bland so I try sauces while cooking and season.

JocastaElastic · 03/05/2020 05:17

Nigella’s “Kitchen” is really good.

CMMum88 · 03/05/2020 05:19

Nothing fancy by alison roman is very well used here even though it's quite a new cookbook.

Skigal86 · 03/05/2020 07:27

We have a few hairy bikers books, and I go them a lot, I especially like the mum knows best (red one) and the hairy dieters one. I also really like economy gastronomy, which takes a few basic dishes and turns each into three different meals, it’s partly about saving money but there is a lot of tasty recipes too.

Mrsducky88 · 03/05/2020 07:34

Fresh India - Meera Sohda
Jamie’s 15 minute meal (chorizo carbonara is delish)
Bosh
Mob Kitchen

Also the BBC good food site is pretty handy and has some really nice recipes

user1471548941 · 03/05/2020 07:39

For sweet stuff, I have recently got Paul Hollywood’s How to Bake and have had successful bread, pastry and cakes, despite previously think that I was a passable cook but a bad baker!

I am SO impressed that all the recipes just work and there is a short technical explanation on the techniques e.g. kneeding. We’ve enjoyed some of the vegetable tarts for dinner, bread with homemade soup for lunch and of course cake!

filka · 03/05/2020 07:52

Weight watchers slim essentials

Not that I'm weight-watching...or slim Smile

Also like others, BBC Online

unchienandalusia · 03/05/2020 08:03

@noodlezoodle Dinner is a fab book. Have just got her Dinner in French book which is heaven!

Lisa Faulkner's books are real go to's. Plus the Dishoom book is a fab. Also love Sabrina Ghayour'a books Feasts and Persiana. Use those a lot.

Rubychard · 03/05/2020 08:14

The best cookbook for me is mowgli street food by nisha katona (recipes used in mowgli restaurants - indian). The recipes just work, and rather than using 1 or 2 recipes regularly out of the book (as I usually seem to do with other books) I use most of the book.

guineapig1 · 03/05/2020 08:23

I agree with lots of the recommendations above. It’s hard to beat Delia Smith’s Complete Cookery Course for an old classic and also love Mary Berry’s baking bible. For something newer and a bit different I’d suggest Moorish by Ben Tish. There are some really lovely recipes in it which are becoming family favourites in this house.

rbmilliner · 03/05/2020 08:24

Recently got a vegan cook book (not vegan or even vegetarian for that matter, but try to eat less meat) but still resort to BBC good food website despite owning loads of book!
