To ask if you dream in colour ?

Just that really . I never knew that people dream in colour , Ive always dreamed in black and white ?!
It was only when my husband happened to bring it up in conversation a few weeks back that I came to understand that it is possible to dream in colour . So....does anyone else dream like me or are you all coloured dreamers and I’m the weird one ?

Do you mind me asking how old you are OP? Supposedly as you get older you can lose the ability to dream in colour?

The vividness of you dreams can also be linked to how much television you watch (positive.m correlation). By vivid I mean colour density, sound etc, not content.

Dreams are supposedly ways of our unconscious making sense of the world we currently live in. As the brain processes information and lays down new neural networks, the new pathways interact with old memory paths and trigger them. They are then incorporated into your dream.

Pretty sure I’ve always dreamed in colour .
Dh doesn’t dream at all apparently!

GaaaaarlicBread · 01/05/2020 19:20

@YourDaughter You can ask what you like , no problem ! I’m 25 so I wouldn’t say I’m old just yet ! I’ve dreamed in black and white for as long as I can remember , and never thought anything of it until DH were talking about dreams As I’m pregnant and having very weird ones !

I usually have very vivid, crazy dreams that 9 times out of 10 I remember but always in colour

3746xvy734 · 01/05/2020 19:31

wow that's interesting - I always dream in colour.

PaperMonster · 01/05/2020 19:35

I dream in colour, just as if I was there in real life with sound, smells, taste etc.

iklboo · 01/05/2020 19:37

Full colour, surround sound, emotion and sensation. I am a very lucid dreamer and can change my dreams, know I am dreaming etc.

Greyscreendream · 01/05/2020 19:39

Very washed out colours but much closer to black and white than a technicolour movie. Interesting question OP.

DorisDances · 01/05/2020 19:42

What a fascinating thread - thanks op

GaaaaarlicBread · 01/05/2020 19:46

@iklboo so strange as my husband said he can control his dreams too!

I'm same as you @Frariedeamin
I recently had this conversation with family and was really surprised to hear how unusual it was
It was prompted by me mentioning that the only time I've ever "seen" things is when I was pregnant and had really vivid (by my standards) black and white dreams!

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 01/05/2020 19:51

Prior to the invention of photography (1826) there was no concept really of black and white imagery. Well maybe etchings in the 1600s but still prior to that, life was in colour. I dream in colour and fortunately without any adverts - still no catch up option yet...

Odyc · 01/05/2020 19:57

I don't know. I do dream sometimes but not sure if they are B&W or colour. Possibly B&W as I think of them as being quite dark. Very interesting.

Lougle · 01/05/2020 20:00

Tbh, I'm not sure I dream with images. I think it's more of a dialogue.

averytiredmom · 01/05/2020 20:03

I dream in colour; my ex couldn’t though

vampirethriller · 01/05/2020 20:06

Colour, with tastes and smells etc.

JayeAshe · 01/05/2020 20:10

Yes , l get colour, touch, hearing, different languages, music, taste and smell in my dreams. All five senses.

bobstersmum · 01/05/2020 20:12

My dreams are like I've been on the magic mushrooms. Last night I was saving some live chickens from being buried under a load of soil by the builders across the road, I was horrified and went over to scream and shout at them, but when I actually looked at them they weren't chickens they were human babies! I yelled so much I woke up. Bonkers.

ScrambledEggForBrains · 01/05/2020 20:15

I dreamt of a purple boxer dog with black jigsaw markings when I was on champix to stop smoking, odd dreams were side effects apparently 🤔 🤷‍♀️

megletthesecond · 01/05/2020 20:19

Colour.

HotCrossBungle · 01/05/2020 20:20

Yes, colour and sound. I have been known to experience an orgasm in my dreams too. BUT When awake I don't have a mind's eye ☹️ I can't visualise anything, not even DC faces, though I 'know' what they look like in thoughts and all thoughts are in words that I 'hear' or just know.

nellodee · 01/05/2020 20:26

I don't remember having colour in most of my dreams, but then, I do remember having a few dreams where I've gone clothes shopping. These dreams definitely had colour in them, because I was choosing between different colours of the same style on a rack. I think, maybe, I only fill in the details that are important to the context of that particular dream?

Char1ey · 01/05/2020 20:27

Colour - with sound, taste, smells.
Been dreaming a lot more since Lockdown too, and they’re really vivid dreams and usually wake me up. They’re not always nice dreams either.

YourDaughter · 01/05/2020 20:28

Haha OP, well there goes that theory! 😁

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 01/05/2020 20:36

Neither. No pics or sounds. If I very occasionally remember anything, it’s either a feeling of panic or as if I was narrating it
