I have to admit, I cried.

I'm not being UR.

If it’s as early as June 1 in UK I’ll be really surprised!

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 01/05/2020 20:11

Ultimately, staying safe at home is an act of universal kindness and love to those in the population this virus will kill. They, if they do get to hospital will be on their own struggling for breath and if they don't succeed, they will drown, slowly and be terrified.Dying on their own, where families can not attend funerals.

I have heard of enough deaths of friends of friends. My best friend has had it. She is a fit 40 year old and the NHS said unless your lips turn blue, I. E you are suffocating, don't phone an ambulance.

Yes, it's driving working parents up the wall with home schooling but I'd rather the tantrums than suffocate.
I don't know when schools will be back but I 'd rather look after the community and take our time.

msgreen · 02/05/2020 20:13

The people protesting in the usa
Are the same people that voted for trump
You reap what you sow !!!

Mrsmorton · 02/05/2020 20:21

The ex of 6 years who ghosted me to fuck a famous woman in Washington DC is cooped up in his flat in the UK, both of them trump supporters desperate to get together. I can't help being relatively ambivalent about lockdown continuing.

Also, the lockdown protests lol. America. Nice one. FML.

Hear hear! I cant see any family and dont know when I will be able to. Had Disneyland booked for children( x3) and dont know when we are going.....but I dont care! As long as people stop dying and we stop this virus! If it takes a year or even two! Sorry but I went shopping today and everyone were complaining about the ' suffering' cos of lockdown?? What about the dying and deads families? Spare a thought please. It makes me weep. I thank God my family and my friends have not got it yet. Stay safe and healthy! Love to all of you. 💞

papiermaches · 02/05/2020 20:50

The US deaths are going to soar because Trump is an idiotic twat who cares more about getting re-elected and money than saving American lives or actually leading.
So that June 1st let’s get America back to work just isn’t realistic.

Angelil · 02/05/2020 21:22

I have found lockdown really hard and am utterly relieved that here in the Netherlands my son will return to creche on May 11 and I will return on June 2nd. All we are hoping for now is to be able to see our families this summer. You’re not alone OP.

riceuten · 02/05/2020 21:38

I work in education and we're planning things are "normal" from the 1st September. This, of course, could all change. Schools almost certainly will not be going back before then, other than in drips and drabs for selected year groups - perhaps

Sparksflying100 · 02/05/2020 21:50

Thank goodness for US protests

When I saw them on the news all questions regarding how Trump became President were answered!
I have no words! And the people who abused the nurses leave me speechless! I am truly amazed And angered that such ignorance exists!

Angrywife · 02/05/2020 23:01

"LilacTree1
I hear you OP
For me, is also the shock that governments worldwide think it’s okay to quarantine healthy people
Thank goodness for US protests."

I wholeheartedly agree.
Thank goodness for US protests.
Natural selection at its finest, a shit load of idiots spreading a deadly illness amongst themselves and the earth will be whole lot better off for it!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 02/05/2020 23:34

I think there was a saying going around the internet last week "We are all in the same storm, but we aren't all in the same boat

Exactly merrymouse

People are struggling so much that suicide rates are up

francienolan · 03/05/2020 00:29

@Gettingveryfat agreed with PP he should contact the embassy. Flights are leaving every day to the US from LHR however I believe they are only going to select airports. I suppose it depends on where he can get to and whether he can get home from that airport. Good luck to him. It is recommended that if people want to go to the US then they should go now so it's not unreasonable for you to drive him to the airport.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 03/05/2020 01:03

@EarlLeighIndamornin Ignoring all the bickering on the thread Hmm I'm in NY too. Stuck in my 1 bed, trying to work from home with my husband, 2 dogs and an 11 month old baby. I fucking LOST it yesterday when the baby wouldn't nap. Had a proper sobbing hysterical meltdown.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 03/05/2020 01:07

Eurgh, pressed send too soon. I don't think people can understand what it's like if they're not here. I'm stressed out of my mind trying to look after the baby and keep up with work, and even when we do go back to the office, I have no childcare because my daycare closed FOR GOOD. Anyway, no advice, just sympathy and hand holding. It is HARD.

Where are you in NY? I'm over in Chelsea and it's gone proper back to the 70s here, which isn't helping...

ToffeeYoghurt · 03/05/2020 01:40

I was about to go to bed when I noticed your post @Witchesandwizards
I'm sorry your dad is ill. It's extremely unlikely you'd be unable to come to the UK. We still have flights arriving daily from around the world (with no checks or quarantine). The main issue would be whether you'd be allowed back in to NZ. They've done very well in more or less eliminating Covid and I very much doubt they'll want to admit someone from one of the worst infected countries. If you're a permanent NZ resident it should be ok. You'd be quarantined but allowed back. I hope you're able to see your dad.

I think America is dealing with it better than the UK. It seems from this thread, violent protestors aside, many in the states are taking it seriously, with employers talking of wfh until September. You've also got stricter border control, I believe? Per million population the US death toll is much lower than the UK (and many other European countries).

ArthurChristmas2 · 03/05/2020 08:31

@ToffeeYoghurt US are behind the UK, keep watching those numbers especially now they’re all ignoring lockdown. Also, compare population per area for US and UK. We have made mistakes in UK but we also have lots of people squashed into a small area. Spreading was inevitable.

merrymouse · 03/05/2020 09:49

Re: US, difficult to compare them to any other country because their government structure is so different.

Within the US the overall figures include New York (densely populated, many visitors, but now flattening the curve, still enforcing restrictions) and rural states where the virus has inevitably spread more slowly because of sparse population, but where there is no reason to believe that it will stop spreading, particularly now that restrictions are being lifted.

sugarapplelane · 03/05/2020 09:50

My Husband thinks the protesters against lockdown in the US are just "boys playing soldiers".

You just have to take a look at most of them to see what kind if people they are and who they voted for on the last election. Stupid loves stupid!!!!

I am for lockdown because, believe it or not, the doctors and scientists know a hell of a lot more than that orange faced man in the White House. He shows no sign of empathy. He is only interested in No 1!!!! My God he even thinks the Chinese started this in purpose to stop him winning a second term. IGNORANT FUCKING NARCISSISTIC

I say let the protesters crack on and then let them learn a mighty big lesson when they all start falling ill and passing it on to their elderly relatives.

merrymouse · 03/05/2020 09:53

with employers talking of wfh until September.

Not in Georgia, and there is nothing to stop somebody from Georgia travelling to a different state.

FelicisNox · 03/05/2020 21:28

All I can read from any of the whiny bollocks posts on here is:

I don't like being in my own home for protracted periods of time, being around my husband or raising my own kids because it's boring and hard work.

Boo fucking hoo. Get a grip.

As for the Americans on this thread who think their human rights are being infringed: go out. Seriously just get on with it because the world is overpopulated any way and disease and each other other (wars) are our only natural predators so if you're happy to put yourselves and your like minded compatriots at risk, knock yourselves out. Go wild.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 03/05/2020 21:44

Very selective reading there

ToffeeYoghurt · 04/05/2020 00:06

I've seen very little whiny bollocks on this thread. In fact I was struck by how the Americans (at least the ones on here) seem far more sensible, calm, and understanding of contagion than lots of my fellow Brits on other threads. I suspect OP was having a relatively light-hearted moan about her husband being under her feet. We all do it.

Merry Does Georgia have a low number of cases? They won't keep it that way if they allow residents to visit more affected areas and then travel back home.

It's interesting how it's different depending on state. The decision to lockdown is down to the governors rather than the president?
