To think my UK holiday may still go ahead?

We're due to take the DC to Butlins at bognor regis on 29th June.

Their website states that their sites are closed until June 7th because of coronavirus restrictions.

How likely is it that we will be ok to go ahead by late June? Would you change your dates and rebook for later in the year?

I'm cautiously optimistic but unsure whether I'm being too optimistic?

Not going to happen. At the moment we’re discussing whether universities will be teaching the first term online. The chances of holidays in holiday camp type places happening two months from now are remote.

LouLouLoo · 30/04/2020 21:37

I’m not sure that big resorts will be open by then.

Aside from there being 1000’s of people all wishing to use the same facilities, it also means that 1000’s of people from all parts of the UK will be travelling each week. This would put the local hospitals under immense strain if there is an outbreak and also the resort staff at heightened risk.

I think some holidays will still take place, but not big resort type ones.

RainMustFall · 30/04/2020 21:40

Zero to no chance I would think.

Popcat120 · 30/04/2020 21:41

We've got Haven booked first week of June.
I'm not expecting it to go ahead.
I may just ask for my money back and accept we won't have a holiday this year!

x2boys · 30/04/2020 21:45

I think that also depends what type of holidays tbh @Amanduh even in August, a cottage with out attractions quite possibly, but Haven,Butlins and the like, I think we will still be practicing social distancing I don't think that would be practical,we mainly booked the Haven site we are supposed to go to for the pool it looks amazing ,but lots of people in a crowded pool seems like it might be a recipe for disaster

SodOffCovid · 30/04/2020 21:46

I don't think so at all OP, sorry. I think Boris will lift shops, businesses where social distancing can take place before then but any group events will remain cancelled which will include resort type holidays. There's just too many people.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 30/04/2020 21:50

The other issues with holiday lets etc is making sure that they are as clean as they need to be to stop ppl catching it from other ppl in the parks are previous tenants in the caravans etc

RunningNinja79 · 30/04/2020 21:51

Haven extended to end of May two days ago
That's interesting when they are owned by the same company. Anyway that's not the point.

We are booked to go to Butlins on 19th June. When it gets cancelled we are going to rearrange to go the last week in August when we should be going to France.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 30/04/2020 21:58

Even more interesting as Haven did rest of decisions last

NeilTheBaby · 30/04/2020 22:02

I can't see how a lot of holiday park companies will survive if they don't get their summer trade. Especially smaller/ independent places. I think places will be open in the uk for the summer purely for the economy.

VladmirsPoutine · 30/04/2020 22:02

Even if things 'go back to normal' sometime in mid June, that doesn't mean life automatically goes back to normal. For a substantial period there will still have to be social distancing and places of work/leisure opening in phases. So all in all I'd say not a chance.

polobelt · 30/04/2020 22:04

No chance I wouldn't have thought

allinit2gether · 30/04/2020 22:06

I wouldn't go even if it were. I don't think it will be though. Social distancing will be the new norm.

drownininplaymobil · 30/04/2020 22:12

We are due to go to a cottage in Wales in August, but with two other families so I imagine that won't be happening if social distancing measures are still in place.

TheGreatWave · 30/04/2020 22:15

We have a cottage booked for August, it seems if it is cancelled we can re-book - I am actually quite happy with this (rather than he cash back).

We nearly booked with Sykes but decided to go elsewhere instead so booked with another firm.

I am just not thinking about it. My parents go to Devon in the summer, but go by train - I think that might be an issue as well - the trains between the midlands and the south west get very busy.

swapsicles · 30/04/2020 22:20

Camping might be the first holiday to become available, makes sense as a lot less to clean between guests, I've got a UK holiday in Nov, got fingers crossed for that but will wait and see what happens.

DorsetCamping · 30/04/2020 22:20

Center Parcs booked for mid July. Not holding out any hope.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 30/04/2020 22:22

Unlikely, also I think Fun facilities like pools etc will be the last thing to open Sad

MintyMabel · 30/04/2020 22:24

Even if it were open, wild horses couldn’t drag me there that soon.

Humina · 30/04/2020 22:24

Butlins is a germ pit at the best of times. I'm not being snobby, we went twice a year for 5 yrs.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 30/04/2020 22:30

I can't see holiday parks being open by the end of June.
I think lockdown will have started to be relaxed, and maybe be able to go to holidays in countryside like B and B in middle of nowhere for example, but a holiday park like Butlins?!
No chance.
I say that as it would be a social distancing nightmare.
How would they enforce it?
They'd have to severely restrict numbers, I've not been to Butlins but go to Haven loads and the club on a night for example gets absolutely rammed so I presume that'd be the same.
Common sense it would be a bad idea to go that back to normal so soon.
I'd want to rebook for next year if it was me as it's too soon to know anything for this year.

bettybattenburg · 30/04/2020 22:33

There are always spikes in bugs when school starts after the summer and this year it's going to much worse than usual. Even in an average year there are more hospital admissions for asthma in September because of it. I doubt anybody will be getting a booked holiday this year.
