To ask for your hill you will die on? LIGHTHEARTED

As per the meme ‘I will die on this hill’ what are your lighthearted hills you’re willing to die on?

Mine:

Phoebe Buffay is the worst friends character. She is not kooky, she’s mean, selfish and always looking for ways to put the other friends down. Everyone is too busy hating Ross to realise Phoebe is a cock. I will die on this hill.

@Goldengroveunleaving

I look down on your hillock of congealed kit kats with the absolute contempt of an aficionado of 85 percent pure cocoa.......

Milk' chocolate isn't chocolate. It is sickly infantile pap. Kit Kat? That isn't chocolate. It's an abomination.

Totally agree. Milk chocolate generally is revolting, Tony Chocolonely is a notable exception.

I love 85% dark chocolate, preferably whilst drinking whisky.
I do draw the line at the 100% stuff that my husband eats thoughConfused

Graphista · 04/05/2020 13:27

Disagree instant and filter coffee taste the same.

I can tolerate better quality instant, hate Nescafé it always tastes scorched and bitter to me and is the reason that for many years I thought I didn't like coffee. Then I was given a delicious filter cuppa at a dinner party and was hooked.

I keep a jar of douwe egberts in but have a cafetière which is what I usually use if having a coffee.

@mrsBtheparker I LOVE quantum leap and am most frustrated it isn't available to stream from anywhere - there's only a few episodes on iTunes even, think Netflix etc missing a MASSIVE trick there although maybe it's whoever owns them won't sell?

But...I do love me some sci-fi I must admit. All started with Sapphire & steel

And no one genuinely prefers dark chocolate to milk I've loved dark chocolate since I was a toddler and far too young to be interested in "appearing sophisticated" or any such thing.

Thelnebriati · 04/05/2020 14:27

I've just realised I can surround Gravy Hill - with gravy. That'll learn 'em.

peaceanddove · 04/05/2020 17:32

I might have to temporarily abandon my fortified enclave of university hills and decamp to the 'be a parent, not a wuss' hill.

Am always mystified when I hear people say they can't get their children to do xyz. I've just never had a problem at all. I make it clear what I consider acceptable behaviour and explain what the sanction will be if my children don't comply. Then, and I assume this is the part that wussy parents liken to magic, I actually follow through on the sanctions. Funnily enough I have only had to impose sanctions a handful of times because my kids aren't daft and learn quickly.

@ReadilyAvailable I always think those cars look like a swollen ankle in a tight shoe.

decktheballss · 04/05/2020 18:05

There should only be one spread on toast/bread. Butter and jam etc is disgusting

Bakedpotatoandgin · 04/05/2020 18:07

@SoManySocks Yesss! I never thought of that, but that is exactly what they look like

SerenDippitty · 04/05/2020 18:20

I love 85% dark chocolate, preferably whilst drinking whisky.

Yes great combination!

However, Lindt 85% is shit. Co op, Morrison’s, Tesco and M&S are all better.

Woolly17 · 04/05/2020 19:02

Yes a thousand times yes about milk chocolate. Dark choc all the way!

I went for a disaster of an interview at Cadbury's many many moons ago and when asked if I liked Cadbury's had an attack of honesty (I was in my early 20s and nerves must have caused a short circuit in my brain). I said "Ugh no, tastes like sawdust with sugar." CRINGE.

Neveranynamesleft · 04/05/2020 21:11

Stick Quality Street where the sun dont shine. The makers should be done under Trade Descriptions for calling that chocolate.

Graphista · 04/05/2020 22:05

Funnily enough I have only had to impose sanctions a handful of times because my kids aren't daft and learn quickly. Exactly!

My dd at one point developed/met some new friends in her teens and they weren't the best behaved and tried to get her to break certain rules I/we had. They were like "oh your mum might shout a bit but it'll be ok"

Her friends she'd had from primary who knew me/us were like "not her mum! Instant sanctions no ifs buts or maybes and if dd argues it gets doubled"

Now I'm not saying dd or I were/are perfect but this did prevent a lot of problems I saw other parents having.

My sister right from hers were little was completely inconsistent on what the rules were and sanctions and then as hers got older they were just confused. So they'd act out and she'd not understand why and be tearing her hair out. They'd get let off something one HOUR and then grounded for a week for doing the same thing an hour later! Poor kids didn't know if they were coming or going!

MintyMabel · 04/05/2020 22:44

Everyone should take a vitamin D supplement, especially kids.

The whole series was on Forces TV recently, bunged up the Sky box for weeks, I have kept the Trilogy, the Abigail episodes. Never truly understood the ending though, apparently there was due to be another series but it was cancelled and they tried to end it quickly.
I think that odd episodes are still to be found on Foprces TV.

absolutezero0k · 04/05/2020 23:19

Bull-bars were bloody banned during my childhood DH, I don't care if they're everywhere now for some reason. There was a big media campaign about how dangerous they were and they were banned. (Perpetual argument with DH that could probably be solved by Google but I'm not looking in case I dreamt this - I'm in too deep now).

Graphista · 04/05/2020 23:36

I can't get forces tv

jjesquire · 04/05/2020 23:57

I have a few hills

French toast, not eggy bread.
Housecoat instead of dressing gown.
Krispy Kreme original is best.
Dark chocolate tastes like misery.
Fish and chips do not need sauce or vinegar, just salt.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2020 01:52

French toast, not eggy bread.
Housecoat instead of dressing gown.

Are you American or Canadian? I can't stand 'housecoat'.

safariboot · 05/05/2020 02:00

The original is better than the remake.

(I have a particular original and remake in mind, but really, you can say that about a LOT of stuff that's been "remade".)

psychomath · 05/05/2020 02:04

peaceanddove can I please join you on all of your hills? (Except 'uni', which I don't care about one way or the other, and the parenting one, which sounds reasonable to me but not being a parent I don't feel like I get a say.)

jjesquire · 05/05/2020 02:28

@MrsTerryPratchett nope

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2020 02:33

no excuse then. Grin

managedmis · 05/05/2020 02:34

I was just about to post this without RTFT: 'English cakes are better than French ones' then saw Navigator pretty much said something similar!
