AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

The woodlands story is well written, but I'm quite sceptical!

Forgottenwhatsleepis · 01/05/2020 09:00

I remember reading Avalanche's story the first time, she didn't put the location until later in the thread, but it still creeps me out! So much so me and my husband really really want to go there! (Paranormal investigators)

Forgottenwhatsleepis · 01/05/2020 09:09

Me and DH have had too many to list, but one happened about an hour after our DD was born, in the hospital in the middle of the night. We'd both managed to doze off, I woke up thinking I'd heard DD (as you do in post-natel wards) so looked at her cot. She was still sound asleep, but seconds after her cot started rocking on it's own. My DH was asleep the other side of me on his chair, there was only a wall the other side of her so no one had accidentally knocked it, and there was no wind at all. 6 months before DD was born DHs DM passed away so we think she came to meet her granddaughter

Laiste · 01/05/2020 09:16

I've had lots of weird experiences in my lifetime AliceTeale; like the one above with DD and some very strange stuff shared with other people at a different work place which i can tell here later. The thing about the school incident is that is was such a lot of physical stuff which moved. It wasn't just sounds or smells or anything which could have been a matter of opinion. Y'know? And i wasn't expecting it. I wasn't feeling freaked out. It was sunny. There the stuff was. Bloody piled up!! You can't describe how it feels. You don't react the way you think you might. It not like in a film.

I would still describe myself as non woo too, to be honest, because i'm a terrible coward and get the heeby geebys easily. I don't 'want' this stuff. I try to shut it out. I feel things about places strongly ect. I don't want to though. DH is always saying he wants to be woo - i say ''you really don't''.

So yes, the pile of stuff: largest/heaviest things at the bottom; lunch boxes first (2 i think) then a couple of painted cardboard models. Small packaging. Then a ruler, might have been 2 (laid flat not on end!) Reading book, and then a couple of bits of that really big chunky lego. Not fitted together, piled. Then right at the top a couple of tiny Lego blocks and a rubber. The things were piled at right angels to each other. Towards the top you'd have to be placing them very carefully to balance the whole thing. The whole pile was about .... 2, maybe 3 feet high.

I felt no fear.

There is one extra little bit to this story. Now, working as a TA (8 years at that point) is a job with a lot of responsibility and professionalism. I was NOT about to go round telling anyone at the school what happened. Firstly because i wouldn't want it getting back to any children and them getting frightened of their school (i had 3 of my own kids going to that school at the time!) and secondly because i didn't want people thinking i was mad. The next day i went through that class room in the morning (the teacher and the class were already in there) and i saw nothing unusual. I wondered what the caretaker had thought if/when he had seen the pile when he'd locked up the night before. Later that day the teacher from class B was chatting with me in the staff room and said 'bloody hell guess what happened this morning - i'd got the children all sat on the carpet for register and that clock above my desk just FLEW off the wall into the middle of the kids! Really weird ay? I climbed up and hung it back up. The hook was still up there ...''.

I just said ''hmmmm how odd'' and i changed the subject. I mean, what can you say? What can you do? Seriously.

Kahlua4me · 01/05/2020 09:31

My own story is pale in comparison -

After my lovely mum died in an accident I started going to a grief cafe to chat to others in the same situation. On my first visit I was talking to a lovely lady and we decided to swap numbers so we could meet up to discuss a project she was working on. I got my phone out and she gave me her number so I could ring for us to swap numbers easily.

Anyway, I dialled her number and her phone then duly rang but instead of her screen displaying my number it was my mum’s name! No explanation for that as I have had my number for many years and she definitely did not know my mum so I have no idea how that happened...

Luddite26 · 01/05/2020 12:28

This is something I've been thinking a lot about lately. I do believe in reincarnation.
When my 4th grandchild was born he was in special care and I went to hold him and we looked at each other and I felt we were being reunited. I believe he was my Grandad. Never felt this 'knowing' with any other babies I've held. Obviously people think I'm crackers or poopoo if I say he does things my grandad used to do like touch his nose with his tongue. Anyway I do wonder if it is what happens we just keep recycling ourselves!x

ChokkaBlock · 01/05/2020 12:28

@Needtheadvice Where is the death house?

anxietrist · 01/05/2020 12:30

I hope so @Luddite26

Luddite26 · 01/05/2020 12:31

That's meant to be a reply to a previous post about a ladies granddaughter saying she used to be her mum not a random unspooky comment sorry.

Luddite26 · 01/05/2020 12:35

Me too anxietrist.x

AliceTeale · 01/05/2020 12:36

Thank you Laiste. Fascinating.

I’m not woo. The thought of some of these stories terrify me to a sickly dread - but I’ve had a lot of very strange moments I prefer not to dwell on.

Years ago, I was awoken by the bed sort of shaking. Like someone was pulling on one of the brass corners and giving it a light shake. Son’s father sound asleep next to me. However I felt a bit uncomfortable so checked on DS. As I approached the bedroom I could smell the acrid warm diarrhoea and indeed, my boy had a poorly tummy and had made quite a mess of the bed. I was glad to have been awoken. He was only 3 or 4 at the time and fast asleep, unaware of it all. I was grateful to the bed shaker but it freaks me out quite a lot if I dwell on it. I wasn’t scared at the time.

I dreamt I was talking to my mum who was locked outside of our family home. I was away at uni. She was telling me it was all alright and it would be ok. I woke the next day and told my housemates it was a bit weird. I called her mid-morning (Uni payphone in a lobby) and she told me then not to worry, but she had just come back from the doctor who had told her she had cancer and had to go for more tests immediately.

She was treated successfully but her house was repossessed a few months after (90’s recession).

I had a really uneasy feeling listening to a song one night. Son’s father had an affair but wanted to come back to us and of course laid it on thick that he wanted to stay with us and it was all over with her. We were a few weeks into the reconciliation charade. During this song, I sat bolt upright as it dawned on me, he would marry this woman. The thought wouldn’t go away and it was a point of acceptance for me. Like someone laying out transactional facts before me and I knew. I knew that I had to plan right away for the new life I’d considered a couple of months earlier. This voice was very clear. He would be marrying her.
I confronted him next day, he was away for work. I forced the confession and told him I knew. Of course it was still going on.
They split a few months later and I thought no more of it as he was in and out of relationships but I knew she’d be back. That voice was so strong and low and behold - once she deemed him senior enough and rich enough, she was back and now they are married.

There are more, chance encounters. Fleeting things that don’t quite add up. I get spooked by vivid dreams but have so many that I just try not to think about any of it too much. Instinct maybe?

Snaketime · 01/05/2020 14:08

I have had lots of experiences in my life time. I have had lots of occasions where I have dreamed something, very minor day to day stuff, talking to people etc and then months later had the exact same conversations I dreamed about. One that really sticks in my mind was when I was at secondary school, in my dream I walked into school from the bus with 2 girls I was friends with at primary school, but had barely said 2 words to since starting secondary school (because they were popular and I wasn't) I never walked in with them, and we were talking, I can't remember what about now as it was years ago. Then about 6 months later I walked into school with them and we had the exact conversation I dreamt about.

I have heard people shout me when no one was there, had creepy re-occuring dreams, the one that scared me the most was one that kept re-occuring over and over again all on the same night. I woke up to find a woman standing over my bed, I screamed and she disappeared, I got up did daily stuff, then went back to bed, woke up to find the same woman standing over my bed, I tried to scream but couldn't, she took a step closer and I screamed, then a different dream, then I woke up to find her at the side of my bed, I tried to scream and couldn't, she took a step further, I still couldn't scream, she sat on my bed and I finally screamed and she disappeared. Then again woke up to find her same as before I couldn't scream she took a step towards me, sat on the bed and laid down next to me, I screamed. Then again wake up she is at the side of me, I can't scream, she takes a step closer, sits down on the bed, lies down next to me, all while I try to scream, but no sound is coming out, I roll over so as not to look at her, she then puts her arms around me, one hand over my mouth and nozzles her head into my neck and then the dream changed. This time I actually woke up and was terrified, I have never been so scared in my life, my heart was pounding and I was sweating. This was all in one night, whilst I was living at home with my DM and DF. About 2 months later when I had forgotten about it, i closed my eyes to go to sleep and a voice whispered "I'm back" and then a horrible little laugh, I still hate that room at my parents house.
Had experiences at work too.

Ohwhatbliss · 01/05/2020 14:22

I've so enjoyed reading these stories that I'll add mine. Very identifiable family but if any of them are on here I know they won't mind!

These all centre around my childhood best friends house, an old 3 storey terrace that was inhabited by my female friend, her mum and her two sisters. So 4 females and no men in the house. I stayed there often as a kid and had the sensation of being watched, saw shadows out of the corner of my eye and heard footsteps running on the second floor when I was on the first floor.

Whatever is there (and it's been 50 years and counting) is definitely not malevolent but a protective soul. Any bad 'uns the girls brought home always had an experience of one kind or another. Most memorable was a 6'2" 20 year old lad running out of the house in the middle of the night because he woke up with the sensation of hands round his neck. Turned out afterwards that he had been a bit handy with the eldest sister.

My friend only recently told me that when she was in bed she would fairly regularly hear footsteps doing a circuit around the third floor where there were two bedrooms connected by a bathroom (so you could walk in a full circle through all the rooms). I couldn't understand how she was so accepting of it but she said whilst scary she knew she wouldn't come to any harm.

The youngest sister who is now an adult still lives in the house with her mum, and her 3 little girls. They sleep in one top floor room and their youngest daughter in the other. Recently she woke to hear her small daughter (she was under 1 and not walking) crying. She went in and the baby was underneath the cot. Just lying on her back crying. There is no way that baby could have got herself out.

The one story that really gives me the creeps is this. When my friend was a toddler her Mum was woken in the middle of the night by a female voice whispering loudly "FIRE FIRE" in her ear. She went to the girls bedroom first and saw my friend sweating and red in the face. She had an extremely high temperature and was really poorly.

I really believe that house will always be in their family. I bet one of the current 3 female children will also have 3 girls and the pattern will continue ....

scaryreading · 01/05/2020 14:27

Do they not have any dps?

WantToBeMum · 01/05/2020 14:40

Maybe 15 or so years ago now... I was asleep, and in my dream a woman would come and lean over me, gently shake my shoulders and tell me I needed to wake up, and then I would wake up. It happened every night for a couple of months then never again. The strangeness of it was that I felt really happy and whenever I woke up I would straight away wish it had been real, like as though it was a woman I felt really close to.

NotJustStories · 01/05/2020 14:50

I've got a load.

Name changed as my family would be able to identify me from them.

1..I was about 12/13 years old and was lay on my bed reading a book. I was lay on my front with my head facing towards the door. As I'm reading my head is sort on pointed down wards. I notice something on the floor and so look over the top of my book to see 2 white feet stood about 3 ft from my bed. They're all white. Mary Jane styled buckled shoes, white frilled socks. I'm staring at them for a moment, confused and as I start to trail my eyes upwards, from the shoes to the calves.. I get to the knees and poof. Gone. Just gone.

I wasn't scared at all. It was just so strange.

2-Around 13 years old. Doing an ouiji board with friends at my grans house. We were summoning Elvis and generally just being silly until my friend asked to speak to her Aunt, that had died months before. At that exact moment the lights flickered. The TV set came on and the VCR ejected a video.

We all ran outside screaming. Could have been a power surge but never experienced anything similar since.

3- Had a strange dream. It was black and I heard ringing. I saw an old fashioned dial phone in front of me in the blackness.
Ansered it and it was my Gran, who is deceased. She says 'XYZ is 3 weeks pregnant'

I wake up.

I tell XYZ. 3 weeks later she finds out at a scan she is 6 weeks pregnant.

4-

This, IMO, is the creepiest and it gives me the Willie's even thinking of it.

Me and my family had been out for the day. I was maybe 14. We pull up to the house in our car. My parents and my 3 siblings.
We don't have a drive so are parallel to the house. I look up at the window and see a face pressed to the window. We had net curtains, lacy ones, but there was no facial features at all. They were wearing yellow.

I said. "mum there's someone in the house"

Everyone in the car looks up at the window and we ALL see the same thing.

My dad jumps out of the car, runs to the door to open it.
He kept a bat by the front door. He runs upstairs. We had all jumped out of the car, ran into the garden. My mum was shouting for us to get out of the way, incase someone ran out the front. My dad is running round the house like a lunatic looking for the intruder.

No one is there. The face is gone. Nothing is taken. Broken. No signs of a break in.

Nothing.

I can still see the 'face' :(

I have. A few more. Will post again later

Ohwhatbliss · 01/05/2020 15:18

@scaryreading Yes, the daughter who still lives there lives with her husband and he is a lovely man who has never felt threatened in the house.

SneakersandSocks · 01/05/2020 15:32

My husband and I used to live down south, when we came to visit family up North, we’d sometimes stop at his Mums house in the countryside. The house isn’t particularly old but the village is .

There’s been a few times I’ve stopped there where I’ve felt uneasy at night. The spare bedroom we used to stop in looks out onto hills and fields and it’s pitch black at night. I woke up wide awake in the early hours one night with a horrible feeling of being watched..I actually hid my head under the covers like a child ( I was in my mid twenties at the time!) then I heard the floorboards creak right outside the door followed by pots crashing downstairs seconds later. I mentioned it the next morning to his family who said they didn’t get up in the night or go downstairs so not sure what that was all about!

There’s been a few other little things like thinking I saw something at the corner of my eye or smelling a dog when they don't have one...

BirdieFriendReturns · 01/05/2020 15:57

Military bases are often haunted. I’ve lived in an old military hospital and married quarters. If you are in the armed forces or a spouse, you can join an Facebook group called Haunted Married Quarters!

AliceTeale · 01/05/2020 16:06

That’s reminded me of another story on here from a nurse who went down to the hospital basement in the lift with someone else and the doors opened onto a scene from a hundred years before.

scaryreading · 01/05/2020 16:14

Yes that creepy lift one

Also the Roman army marching and a centurion hurting the poster with a sword?

MitziK · 01/05/2020 16:52

Ghost Cat.

Ghost Cat jumps on the bed when both DTwatCats have an alibi/independent witness and all doors/windows are shut. Ghost Cat jumps up on the counters or onto the bedroom floor whilst the DTwatCats are in full sight and DP is here as well.

Ghost Cat first appeared about a year after I visited my mother's house to be told in a shocked voice that My Cat had gone to sleep in the front garden in the sunshine three weeks previously and never woken up again. The shocked voice was because I'd walked in, sat down and asked how My Cat had been, as I'd just had a lovely fuss from her as she was out the front in the sunshine under the Pyracantha, all warm and happy and covered in dust over her faded black fur so she glowed red.

Shortly after DP moved in, he asked 'What's that?' when the familiar thud of her hitting the bedroom floorboards came as both DTwatCats sat in front of us.

'Oh, that's Ghost Cat'. (Thinking to myself that he's going to think I'm nuts or taking the piss). Nope.

'Little black thing? She's cute. Especially the red glow'.

I've had a few in my time:

  1. Staying in an old coaching inn which was once frequented by Oliver Cromwell and his men. Was having a sleepless night and in the wee small hours I heard the sounds of a heavy door opening and closing followed by heavy sounding footsteps, sounded like it was above our floor. I thought no more of it and tried to get to sleep. A short time afterwards the same thing again: crash, bang, heavy door opening and closing, followed by heavy footsteps. "Funny", I thought, then tried again to get to sleep. A similar interval afterwards I heard the same thing a third time. Twas like a recording playing over and over. The footsteps sounded like the sort a man wearing big leather boots would make. The next day we were walking next to the building, and for some reason I glanced up at the floor our room was on, and I realised that there was no floor above ours! Some time after I had a look on the internet, and found out that other people had heard footsteps in the night in that inn.

  2. A PP mentioned Chillingham Castle. We went there on a day visit towards closing time, and because it was late we missed going into the torture chamber. On the way out my husband continued walking to the exit, but I decided to peer into the now closed up torture chamber. Between there and the car I was overcome with an intense feeling of nausea. I would have dismissed it, except that once in the car and pulling away the nausea gradually disappeared and I felt fine again.

  3. When I was a schoolgirl in my early teens I had a dream one night that one of the classes I was supposed to attend was moved to a different classroom and I was the only one who didn't know about it, so I was sitting in splendid isolation wondering what had happened to the others. The very next day this exact thing happened!
