A wee rant here. Has anyone else seen that fake Facebook post "written by Jennifer Saunders" doing the rounds on Facebook? It's a crock of shite about how anyone blaming the government for the NHS lack of PPE / ventilators is stupid and anyone who says as much is a "crayon eater" just "trying to pull Boris down". The post absolutely rips the NHS apart and describe it as "piss poor", whilst blaming local councils and private care homes for PPE issues in care settings. It claims the government is in no way responsible for any of the current difficulties.

I'm so fecking angry about it! It's been shared by seemingly intelligent people, at least in my town! It's not written by JS- she has denied all knowledge, and more importantly it's wrong!!

A) the government CUTS to the NHS have affected procurement
B) the procurement of PPE is led by the NHS Supply Chain run by Matt Hancock!

Lots of people on Facebook have shared and liked this fake post believing it to be authentic, including school Mums from DC school I thought were reasonably sensible, and the same people are standing on their doorsteps clapping the NHS and posting rainbows each week. How dare they!!

OP posts:

It’s a good way of sorting out who your stupid Facebook friends are. So far a distant relative and another friend have shared this. Am surprised by neither

Lucyinlockdown · 28/04/2020 21:00

Facebook is full of shitty, stupid posts. I really couldn’t be bothered to get worked up about it.

Staticelle · 28/04/2020 21:02

I am surprised anyone thought she had written it Confused. NHS proc is crap though, and not because of the individuals working in it.

frumpety · 28/04/2020 21:08

Anybody can post anything on a public forum. I have just written a pro Trump thing based on stuff I have heard over the course of his Presidency. None of which I believe. Although if he uses the #Open4the4th I want a substantial financial dividend ! Grin

EstuaryBird · 28/04/2020 21:09

I’m thinking there’s probably more than one person in the UK named Jennifer Saunders.........

frumpety · 28/04/2020 21:10

@EstuaryBird do you think ? Grin

LittleAndOften · 28/04/2020 21:23

There's another one going round asking journalists to stop being "negative" towards politicians Hmm
It's been liked by several of my friends, to my utter despair. I mean God forbid we should have a critical thinking, free media. Think they'd rather we all lived in North Korea.

frumpety · 28/04/2020 21:25

#USAopen4the4th and #Americaopen4the4th also mine Grin

MintyMabel · 28/04/2020 21:33

I’m shocked it is 84 percent that are private care homes.

You’re shocked that the largest number of deaths will be amongst the very old, vulnerable people many of whom will have had their (or their family’s) wishes not to have a traumatic intervention at the end of life?

Shinesweetfreedom · 28/04/2020 21:46

@frumpety
Well less,as I don’t think it is good value for what they charge, bottom line being how much profit they can make.

Shinesweetfreedom · 28/04/2020 21:48

@MintyMabel
No not the deaths but the percentage of private care homes.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 21:50

@MintyMabel

That's not what the 84% is referring to.

aerosocks · 28/04/2020 21:51

What the heck is a 'crayon eater' anyway?

MintyMabel · 28/04/2020 21:51

No not the deaths but the percentage of private care homes

It makes far more sense to be shocked by that!

Mordred · 28/04/2020 21:51

The public love the NHS.

To tear it down and replace it with a Seppo-style health insurance system, copays, deductibles and all, you need to undermine public confidence in it, bit-by-bit so that the masses are, in the end, clamouring for its replacement.

The Tories have been working on this for over a decade.

17,000 beds cut in the last 10 years, but artfully placed stories in the likes of the Mail and the Express regarding failures in NHS care, because, like, people have to be treated in corridors because there aren't enough beds.

It's all worked out.

blacksax · 28/04/2020 21:52

Let's be honest - you would have to be as thick as shit to believe that Jennifer Saunders wrote that.

opticaldelusion · 28/04/2020 21:56

@LittleAndOften that very sentiment was expressed on here. Someone started a thread saying they wished journalists were banned from the daily briefing Confused

Mucklowe · 28/04/2020 22:11

Jennifer Saunders, of all people! 🤣

cdtaylornats · 28/04/2020 22:13

Well in Scotland it is definitely the fault of Holyrood

news.stv.tv/politics/protective-equipment-from-china-stuck-at-prestwick-airport

11 million masks and 100,000 testing kits stuck at Prestwick because the boxes are unlabelled. Now I am a mere mortal but I would have thought it well within even Holyrood's capabilities to open the boxes and check. They've sent off to China for labels.

Jeane Freeman (health minister) said the Scottish Government decided it would be better to have the cargo stuck in the airport in Scotland than in China.

She said work is under way to resolve the labelling problem which is expected to happen this week, adding the PPE “is not needed immediately on the front line”.

That isn't what the care home workers are saying.

missyB1 · 28/04/2020 22:19

Oh don’t get me start ion all the bloody tedious lectures doing the rounds on FB, all the sheep reposting them 🙄
That one about the journalists was such a load of bollocks. Yes how very dare they question the Government eh?

SinkGirl · 28/04/2020 22:20

What a strange person to choose to be the fake writer of your bullshit rant.

I might pen a scathing piece about Tesco and whack Dame Judi Dench’s name on it.

YANBU

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/04/2020 22:21

It's quite clever in that it doesnt laim to hbe been written by that Jennifer Saunders.

I've seen it posted a couple of times on FB and have just scrolled past. It's a piece of shit writing that I'm.not going to engage with.

PhilSwagielka · 28/04/2020 22:28

Sounds more like it was written by some nutcase.

Devlesko · 28/04/2020 22:33

I can't believe anyone reads those things, let alone get upset about them.
I never saw it because I wasn't looking, maybe stop looking OP.
Just a thought. Thanks

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 28/04/2020 22:38

I'm sick of people who blame local councils for everything going wrong. It is very common, not just in this example, and another distracting / scapegoat hunting exercise. Not that councils are always ideal places, but who sets the laws and governance and conditions under which they operate? No council has free agency in the UK.
