To think this is a lot for breakdown cover?

The RAC has quoted me £175 to renew my breakdown cover for the year.

This seems very steep to me so I will probably cancel. Before I do, I just wondered what other people pay for breakdown and if there is any advantage to staying with RAC over other companies?

If the car's relatively new, get a quote from the breakdown service offered by the manufacturer. Here, the AA wanted £140 to cover a 2 year old Toyota Rav 4, but Toyota Assist were £79 for the same cover

Oh, and the Toyota cover is actually ^with the AA - go figure Confused

We switched to AutoAid recently after I went through our finances and realised how much we were paying with RAC before! We haven't had to use them yet, though! But they came recommended on MSE.

My renewal quote was expensive: 10 minute call to ask them what they could do and the price went down by £50 and I got 15 months of cover rather than 12.

Cancel it and get an online quote! Even one from RAC will be considerably less online!

My recent renewal (diff company) was over £180!! I called them and told them they were taking the piss when a quick check online for the same coverage with the same company was about £70 less. And over £100 less for the coverage I actually need this year, seeing as there will be no road trips requiring EU coverage in the near future.

Thanks Ring I will look into it, I also pay for the servicing at my Ford garage so disappointed it wasn’t mentioned, although maybe different dealerships have different arrangements?

RingtheBells · 28/04/2020 08:24

There was a list of Ford garages that did it, mine was on the list.

We renewed with auto aid, £59 for home, destination and roadside recovery. Used them a few times and they've always come out within an hour.

Green flag. However, at renewal, go online and get a new customer quote, then call them and they should price match it.

Hagisonthehill · 28/04/2020 16:00

I've just renewed My green flag policy,Recovery plus.Online comparison quote £68 a phone call to them and I've been offered £63.84.
