As the title says. Opinions please!

Yeah before food prep and after stroking - as soon as is reasonably practical. Erm before all food prep and during if need be.

GreyishDays · 26/04/2020 17:40

I’m presuming the food is going to be cooked, with my comment about stroking the dog. I’d obv wash my hands if it was salad.

teqcar · 26/04/2020 17:40

Does everyone always wash their hands after stroking the dog? Because if not, I can’t really see the difference. Dogs lick themselves.

I think you rather missed the point.

Yes OP you are supposed to wash your hands before preparing food.

coconuttelegraph · 26/04/2020 17:40

If you're cooking food for yourself do whatever you like, why are you asking?

ellabella18 · 26/04/2020 17:41

@WeAllHaveWings

You guessed it🙄 I'm so cross that my DH actually thinks this is acceptable!!!!

I decided to post on here written in a non biased way to settle a disagreement. Thanks for proving my point everyone.

  1. Ew
  2. Yes, I always wash my hands after touching an animal where possible. If not, I’d wash them before preparing food/emptying dishwasher etc. Always did before Covid19, always will forever.
HalfTermHalfTerm · 26/04/2020 17:41

You are being unreasonable, but only because you should wash your hands before you chop anything. Dog bowls aren’t overly hygienic, but I can’t imagine they’re any more unhygienic than actual dogs and if I washed my hands every time I touched one of those I wouldn’t have any hands left!

And yes, I always wash my hands after striking my cat.

Just before prepping food? Or literally every time you touch your cat you then go and wash your hands?

Rebootingagain · 26/04/2020 17:41

Also thing it’s gross when people wash the dog bowls with normal washing up and use the same cloth etc.

Makes me want to hurl

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 26/04/2020 17:42

Washing your hands before food prep, is very basic good hygiene regardless of what you’ve been doing......well unless your a manky bastard of course

Mapril · 26/04/2020 17:43

Does everyone always wash their hands after stroking the dog? Because if not, I can’t really see the difference. Dogs lick themselves

Did you miss the bit about preparing food? I wouldn’t stroke my dog and go make food without washing my hands! I wouldn’t prepare food without washing my hands full stop.

GreyishDays · 26/04/2020 17:47

Then the question should be ‘do you wash your hands before preparing food?’.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/04/2020 17:48

Does everyone always wash their hands after stroking the dog? Because if not, I can’t really see the difference. Dogs lick themselves my dog doesn't lick the top of her head.... I would happily eat something after stroking the dog, but would always wash my hands before preparing food for others.

Mapril · 26/04/2020 17:49

The question was quite clear.

Gross.

User12879923378 · 26/04/2020 17:50

I'm not a clean freak but I always wash my hands before I cook and I always wash my hands after coming back from a walk with the dog and after handling the dog's food. And the dog has dried kibble. I'd be particularly anxious if you feed your dog raw food (not down on raw food, just mindful of increased risk of contamination between surfaces).

LellyMcKelly · 26/04/2020 17:51

Why on earth wouldn’t you wash your hands? Dogs lick their own and other dogs arses. That’s gross.

gluteustothemaximus · 26/04/2020 17:51

This is why I don’t eat anyone else’s cooking

Totally agree.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/04/2020 17:52

I'm not overly fussy - but even I wash my hands after dealing with cat food, regardless of what I'm doing next. This is largely because cat food smells so bad.

Beamur · 26/04/2020 17:53

I always wash my hands after touching the animals food bowls and I wash them every time before I prepare food. Basic hygiene.

CaCo3 · 26/04/2020 17:54

P1nkHeartLovesCake
Yes you nailed it! Smile

HeffalumpsCantDance · 26/04/2020 17:55

Can I point out that handwashing before preparing food is something that is taught in school? So everyone who has been educated in the UK should know this.

raspberryk · 26/04/2020 17:57

That's absolutely disgusting, coming from the women who used to share an icecream as a child with her dog Blush
