You can buy dog and other urine from predatorpee.com

It is time the law was brought up to date and unnecessary accessory pets like cats were treated exactly the same as dogs and their owners prosecuted for fouling and not keeping them under control.
A cat can be kept as a house cat or confined to your gardens, they do not need to wander the streets shitting. In many other countries cats are house cats (or they are likely to become food for other animals).

You chose to have one - you do not 'need' one- you take responsibility for its shit.
Dog owners who do not pick up after their dogs are just as bad by the way and the dog wardens should be given proper powers to deal with it too.

Spray a solution of Jeyes fluid around your hard surfaces.

MoltoAgitato · 25/04/2020 15:22

MitziK cats round here haven’t got the memo, they can routinely be seen shitting in broad day light on lawns and driveways. And no, it’s not fox shit.

IHaveAMagicBean · 25/04/2020 15:27

Are you sure it’s cats shitting on your drive? Could it be fox or badger poo or more likely a disgruntled ex or pissed off neighbour throwing poo into your garden?

fairydustandpixies · 25/04/2020 15:33

I have a dog. My neighbour has two cats. I pick up equal amounts of cat to dog shit every day in my garden. I also have an extension and the cats happily shit on the roof of that too (the smell of that slowly roasting in the sun wafting through the windows is NOT a delight 🤢) - they sunbathe on one part and shit on the other. I have a pump action water pistol but the cats leg it before I can sneak it over the window sill...

We have an apartment in the Algarve - one of the local cats comes into our house and pisses all over the curtains, in cupboards, on piles of washing. It also shits all over the roof terrace floor and pisses on the cushions on the outdoor furniture (I accidentally sat on a wet cushion last year which had me to the point of tears so I understand how you feel). Now we cannot leave our bedroom doors open to the terrace as the cat comes in. We cannot leave cushions on the outdoor furniture and have to bring them in every time we come in. We have tried everything. Makes no difference.

I had just posted this in a gardening forum this morning, my new neighbours have a cat that is shitting all over my flower beds and veg boxes. Got the following suggestions

  1. Super soaker with dilute cordial makes their fur sticky when it dries and they hate it.
  2. A big bag of Indian supermarket cheap curry powder in a sprinkler on areas that they walk through or on fence tops where they climb in.
  3. Citrus oil pellets or orange/lemon peel
  4. Clippings from plants with thorns if they are coming through a hedge
  5. Borrow a dog
My new super soaker is on its way from amazon. Don’t want to hurt the cat but putting your hand in fresh cat shit when you are gardening is vile, it stinks and carries all sorts of disease so I need to train kitty to stay on its own side of the fence.

Thank you all for your replies - I am honestly happy to try anything

My drive way is round the back of my house, so I have a area down the side of my house and then past my garden and into my drive ... the cats just LOVE to shit there. I came back late one evening to find about 5 cats having a little meeting in my driveAngry to do a quick count, I would say on there is 15 cats plus down my small road... it's ridiculous!!!! I hate them. It's always at nighttime.

Attached a picture ... that's a cat shit haul 🤢 I honestly feel like taking it in turns to dump cat shit on peoples front steps who have cats. A piece of paper blew away the other day and I picked it up and dunked my fingers into sloppy cat shit. I was savage. Same with us also, can't let the kids play like they want to until I've surveyed the area. Even then I'm conscious of them playing in it just in case there's any left 🥵

I really worry about this with my cat :( He has three litter trays inside that he uses and also an outdoor one that he uses. If he was causing a problem with my neighbours I would rather they told me so I could clean up after him. I really hope he doesn't go elsewhere but I would be more than happy to try and resolve the issue if he did

RebelWhoWashesFor19Seconds · 26/04/2020 00:17

I'm a cat owner who's cat shits at home in her tray or on a specific 3m wide patch of common land beside the houses. I regularly go out and clear up the poop. Honestly it's probably the poop of a few cats and maybe even a dog or two but it ain't like it's labelled!
I've told all my neighbour's that if they see her trying to poop in their gardens (or even just going in and they don't want her there) then I recommend chucking water at her or chasing/scaring her away. Just please don't hurt her. She was born feral so can't be kept indoors even though she's tame now.

So my suggestion to you is making your property hostile to cats. Soak them and scare them. Every time. Make them terrified of you.

Elieza · 26/04/2020 10:11

You can buy electric fencing that you can put round an area. I imagine that would stop them? You could put it on a plug with a timer so it’s off at certain times if you don’t want the postman getting shocked! I’ve used the horse version. Very effective. Once sting from that and they keep away. It’s a wire on plastic poles you stake into the ground wherever you want. It would break their bad habit and they’d get used to pooing elsewhere and then you could take it down if you wanted. It isn’t going to kill anyone. The shock is a pulse at one second intervals which delivers a feeling of a needle being stabbed in you. You can get mains or battery powered units. I’ve seen pet pond fencing kits to keep cats away from goldfish etc.

Or get the automatic pet water sprayer set up in a direction that won’t get the postman and leave it on for a week or two to soak anything wandering in.
That should sort em out.
You can but the electric fencing kits second hand. I’d suggest the horse one delivers too big a sting so the small pet one would be more appropriate.

MoltoAgitato · 26/04/2020 11:07

I appreciate at the moment it’s different and most people are at home, but telling people to soak and scare cats is completely pointless, what with most people not being able to sit by their back doors watching for cats 24/7....

Nottherealslimshady · 26/04/2020 11:16

I'd recommend a motion sprinkler system.

user1471447863 · 26/04/2020 11:23

It should not be my responsibility to keep your things/toys/belongings/cats out of my garden. It is your responsibility to keep them out/not cause a nuisance to others - if you are unable to do that then you should not have one.
Mice and other vermin get trapped and disposed of, a nuisance cat should be no different (and i'm not talking about in a bag with some bricks - but more taking them to a farm far far away where they can run free and catch field mice)

bluebeck · 26/04/2020 12:28

I agree, given the huge number of cats that use OPs garden as a litter tray, the only option here is a motion activated sprinkler.

This will work at night too, unlike other suggestions of "scaring" or getting a dog I guess.

Motion activated sprinkler

Just a little update - we have installed one of those high pitched noise sensors and it seems to be working. I have seen a lot less cats than usual and I placed it right by where I picked up six poos and there are no more since. A few cats have still been walking through, but I have seen the reaction of a few of them and it’s definitely shocked them and made them run away. A lot less cats seem to be using the garden as a cut through now. The only problem is I can also hear it and I am worried about my neighbour’s dog. He hasn’t barked but I will have to ask her about it when I see her. I had thought that it’d only be short term because it’ll only go off when cats walk past and they’ll quickly learn not to, but it seems to be going off when the wind blows or when I have washing out or for other reasons I can’t fathom. My neighbours are a little older so I don’t think they can hear it, but there are children and younger people the other side who would be able to hear it and it’s very unpleasant. But perhaps I won’t need to keep it on all the time once they’ve dropped the habit. There’s been a very noticeable reduction in numbers!
