To want to cry over cat shit

littleleeleanne · 25/04/2020 13:47

I sound like a crazy cat lady but I'm the opposite

Cats will not stop shitting around my house

26 cat shits out of my driveway

Tell me how to stop them????? I'm so fed up of people up other people's cat shit

I have four cat repellent devices surrounding my house but they still get into some spots 😱😢

@Niyamamama eating shit can be a sign of vitamin or mineral deficiency so you may want to speak to the vet?
Labs are notoriously greedy pigs right enough but gross!!

HappyBuyer · 25/04/2020 14:20

@Thickmuthafuckers
Smile I have two cats and a dog. I suppose I'm subjective and believe that cats are clean because my two cats are clean.

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/04/2020 14:22

Get out your hose. Don’t aim ot at them, just near enough for a splatter is enough. Do it often enough and they will eventually get the message.

Hmpher · 25/04/2020 14:25

They will poo on paved areas or any kind of surface at all in my experience. One elderly neighbour had them pooing on a bit of his flat roof which another neighbour had to clean up for him as it was so bad smelling, particularly in summer.

I haven’t found anything which definitely works. I shoo them away or spray them with water if I see them and have a water gun nearby to make the garden a less nice place for them to be.

Our problem is caused by people over the road who have made it their life’s mission to feed all cats in the local area. They are insane. They go through phases of various behaviour until we complain to the council and they are made to stop. They come out at around fifteen minute intervals to check on cats/stroke cats/feed cats etc. They went through a phase of dropping tin foil parcels of cat food on any grassy areas, or just throwing slops and cat food onto the ground around the estate. They also just leave bowls of cat food out on their drive. Then they started buying heaps of chicken every day and cooking it all then throwing it around the street for cats. They even come out at night with headtorches on to check on the cats. The council have told them that they will consider throwing food out into the street as littering, but they can’t stop them doing it on their own drive, so they just give it all to the cats on their drive who still bring it into my garden or drive to eat. The amount of bones and scraps of meat I have to remove from my garden on a daily basis is ridiculous.

I know it’s not relevant to the thread, but I’ve just got into my little moan now. They’ve also still been leaving the house every day during lockdown to shop for all of the meat. Because cats are just too important. They’re not even their cats. They already have owners who feed them. The really irritating thing is that they think of themselves as the good, nice people because they’re kind to cats. No thought at all for everybody else who lives around here and the constant bones/rotting food/poo/foxes we have to deal with. People who don’t live in the immediate vicinity like to stop and chat to them as they’re always out there with the cats and they’re seen as sweet, slightly eccentric people and we’re the bad guys.

The bones have been eaten by neighbours dogs who get to them before their owners have spotted them, I was constantly cleaning up cat poo trodden into my house during pregnancy, neighbours have even had bloody dead foxes on their doorsteps because they also feed foxes who drag food down to our doorsteps to eat it. I really can’t stand selfish pet owners, but these people don’t even own the cats, they’re causing loads of other people’s pets to congregate within a small area.

ilovedjerrymore · 25/04/2020 14:25

What about a sprinkler of some kind???

We have this problem in our garden. After 2 years I think I have managed to stop every neighbourhood cat coming in as I managed to block a little hole I found in a bush that they used for their getaway Grin obviously don’t think that would work in a drive.

shittingmysel · 25/04/2020 14:27

We used to have this problem and let the dog out to deal with the cats. They didn't come back and if they were ballsy the dog battered them.
Natures way.

Easilyanxious · 25/04/2020 14:29

Have this problem and it is so annoying I have a dog and that doesn't put them off
I clean up after my dog every time and the cats round here do not bury it ( not that thats better if in your veg patch ) think they should all be litter is trained or something so they go indoors more
But I have several friends who don't even have litter boxes for there cats as they don't like cleaning them out and the cats just go out ( yes in someone else's garden )
Leaving dogs crap on the ground is disgusting but so is cats and it carries diseases as well

Easilyanxious · 25/04/2020 14:30

We found lavender and slate instead of stones helped a little only have an incidence in these parts every so often where as neighbours stones area is every day

LittleMissTeacup · 25/04/2020 14:31

We have this problem too!
We haven’t managed to solve it yet though so shamelessly placemarking to try out some of the ideas.
Best deterrent I’ve got so far is me sitting out with a water gun!

HappyBuyer · 25/04/2020 14:31

@Hmpher
Shock I have no words...
Have you tried to do a petition or something? Like bringing all neighbors to reason with those people or to pressure council in doing something?

Isitweekendyet · 25/04/2020 14:32

Dry mustard - cats and dogs fucking hate it. It will also replace the old smell of cat shit. Place it all along the boundaries of your property... it'll wear away in a couple of weeks and hopefully so will the shitting cats.

inwood · 25/04/2020 14:33

As a responsible dog owner I pick up his shit. I realise it's not possible for cat owners but ime they are the first ones to jump on people that don't pick up after their dogs.

Isitweekendyet · 25/04/2020 14:33

I've just read your update about the neighbours.... wtaf is wrong with them?! How do they not have rats?!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 25/04/2020 14:36

@Niyamamama
Ha Yes my dalmation was the same, and my setter used to eat her own sick, sick it up, eat it. on repeat until I could stand it no more

fuckinghellthisshit · 25/04/2020 14:36

jeyes fluid works everytime. rinse the areas they go with it and leave teabags soaked in it.

OhioOhioOhio · 25/04/2020 14:36

A shit ton of very spicy curry powder

hellocherry · 25/04/2020 14:42

I really feel for you, having to pick up cat poo in your own garden when it’s not even your car is disgusting.

We had the same problem when we moved into our house, all the local cats seemed to use it as their toilet.

Fortunately we got our dog a few months later, and she loves chasing cats so any that even try and come in the garden are quickly chased anyway. Our next door neighbours have three dogs who also go crazy if they see or hear a cat, so it’s very rare now that a cat will come near our garden.
It could be a bit of a pain, but maybe if you had a friend with a dog who liked chasing cats they could come around sometimes? If the cats think there is a dog in you garden they might stop coming in.

bluebeck · 25/04/2020 14:44

26 cat poos!!!????

Well that means you have MANY cats around you OP and they have all got together, had a meeting, and decided to shit on your drive. The average cat poops once a day so this is clearly organised crime Grin

So, too many cats to do anything about it on an individual basis. You will have to take general preventative measures like the jeyes fluid recommended upthread.

Or get a cat.

Or a cat hating dog.

Whatdayisit2 · 25/04/2020 14:49

Orange peel works too

bubblesforlife · 25/04/2020 14:50

Prepare a mixture of orange or lemon juice and water and spray?
They hate citric fruits.
You'll likely need to respray every day.

backinthebox · 25/04/2020 14:52

At the risk of outing myself, the thing I found kept next door's cat out of my garden was some fuck off big pet birds. They squawk in the spring though, and are now in a pen after next door complained to environmental health about the noise. Ironically in his complaint he mentioned that I had failed to take into consideration how my pets might impact on him. Next door's cat has spotted the opportunity and is shitting in my garden again. It's also taken the chance to spray every single solid thing in my garden to mark it as it's territory - fence, shed, pizza oven, veg planters, patio furniture, etc. I am tempted to let the birds straight back out. Or use the pressure washer on the cat. After all, years ago next door did say just give their cats a squirt with a bit of water or get a bigger pet and that would keep them out. If there is one pointless pet on this planet, it's a cat.

Yesmate · 25/04/2020 14:54

I hate cats. I hate cat shit. I hate that I have to pick up cat shit before my DS can go and play outside.
I never catch the little fuckers in the act so I can’t turn the hose on them.
Will try the mustard powder.

carolebaskinsheadband · 25/04/2020 14:57

I feel your pain OP. My next door neighbour has 16 cats. She's just got a dog. So now all the cats have decided to not only shit all over my front and back garden but to also sunbathe on my car because they're scared to go home to the dog.
I've suffered this for 5 years and there's honestly no solution.

MitziK · 25/04/2020 14:59

Do cats poo on artificial grass or paved areas?

Not usually. The majority prefer an area with loose soil or leaf litter and preferably a bit of cover.

Foxes, however, are a completely different matter.

PenfoldsFive · 25/04/2020 15:05

It’s an OCG! Organised Cat Gang.
