To remind people of the exercise rules

Keep seeing all this stuff where people are making up their own rules and telling people off! we were even glared at while having a family picnic on a long walk yesterday! Please stop with telling people off when they are within the guidelines.

Here is the current situation, as updated about a week ago.

What are the current rules when it comes to exercise in the UK?

Daily exercise, including walking, running, cycling, tending to an allotment or doing yoga is allowed.

You are allowed to drive somewhere to take your exercise. The guidance says, ‘it is lawful to drive for exercise.’ However, ‘Driving for a prolonged period with only brief exercise’ is also deemed ‘not likely to be reasonable’. The rule of thumb? You’re allowed to drive somewhere to go for a walk or run as long as you spend much more time walking than you do driving.

Exercising more than once per day is likely to be allowed if you have a ‘reasonable excuse’ for needing to leave your home.

You are allowed to sit and take a break from exercise, say, on a bench or sitting down in a park. However, this must be for a short time only and, as before, you must spend markedly more time exercising than resting.

I feel so sorry for the children of these posters who are keeping their children in, not even for walks and do do things are allowed. Must be so miserable for them.

*she is in a carry frame for most of the walk

user1495884620 · 25/04/2020 10:19

I'm pretty sure there is no rule that says glaring is forbidden. Stop being the glare police!

gamerchick · 25/04/2020 10:20

You know what, nobody cares. The virus doesn't care. People walk on virus, spread it about a bit, people sit on virus, get it on their hands and eat a picnic. It might be dead by then or it might not be. There might be no droplets about on the ground at all.

Its on your own head.

Personally I don't understand this having to take food and drink out when going for a walk. Its really weird that people have to snack at all times.

MarieQueenofScots · 25/04/2020 10:20

Don't really care if they do tell me off to be honest, it's quite funny!

So why does your OP ask people to stop telling you off....

Orangeblossom78 · 25/04/2020 10:20

I'm just following the rules Daisypond, don't need to justify it. I don't make them, the police gave guidance and we are just following it.

Makes it easier don't you think?

No one has said that, though. You’re making stuff up.

Gabrielknight · 25/04/2020 10:20

Ppl like you are the bloody problem!!! If you push boundaries, everyone will.....bloody family picnic...

Orangeblossom78 · 25/04/2020 10:21

OP was about telling others off, not me.

It's a shame when it makes people not use the new guidance

OP posts:
BiggerBoat1 · 25/04/2020 10:21

I love that you've quoted the wording and still don't get that you've done something wrong.
Don't be an idiot OP. We're not just all on holiday. This is a lockdown for a serious reason.

eisbslej · 25/04/2020 10:23

Hi OP

To remind people of the exercise rules
Sadie789 · 25/04/2020 10:24

@Iwalkinmyclothing could not agree more.

FlabberMcBlasted · 25/04/2020 10:24

You can have a picnic. It’s fine. It makes a nice couple of hours of the day for the children. I suppose it depends where you live. We live in the middle of the countryside and don’t see a soul on our 2 hour walks. We will happily sit and eat our lunch for 20 minutes. Not because we MUST take food and drink on our walk, as mentioned above, but because it’s fun for children to have a picnic.

AmelieTaylor · 25/04/2020 10:25

Which golf course was this?

I wish we had the same rules as Wales - much clearer.

Picnicking IS breaking the rules

And your weird posts about CV are just a wind up! Give it up for the love of god. People are stressed enough without you on the wind up!

MarieQueenofScots · 25/04/2020 10:25

Really...funny how you made reference to your own situation thereto.

I think you wanted to be absolved and are now taking a fit of pique because people aren’t agreeing with you.

CecilyP · 25/04/2020 10:25

^I would interpret “a short break” as getting a water bottle out and maybe resting for a few minutes, not a family picnic!!!!
Your tone is very preachy but you are totally in the wrong.^

Totally agree with this. A rest, a drink and possibly a quick snack - fine, a full blown 20 minute picnic- not fine! Though from your second post, it looks like life is carrying on much the same as pre lockdown, so I’ve no idea why you specially were glared at!

30not13 · 25/04/2020 10:26

Worth pointing out that this is not UK wide guidance.

In Scotland we are very much still "go out once a day for exercise and you MUST stay local to your home, do not drive elsewhere to take your exercise ".

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 10:27

Rules in Wales are different
Not everyone lives in England
Sick to death of these bloody threads but at least try and understand that Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have devolved administrations that have their own policies and rules
And thank fuck they do

BiggerBoat1 · 25/04/2020 10:28

But FlabberMcBlasted the OP clearly wasn't in the middle of the countryside where she wouldn't see a soul if she walked for two hours because she says she was getting glared at by other people.

She was clearly having a picnic in a place other people were exercising and is therefore a selfish idiot.

Abreadsandwich · 25/04/2020 10:28

I'm sure no ones mentioned keeping their children in? We went out for a walk the other day, it took about 1 hour 15. We walked a slightly longer way to avoid a popular footpath and went around 3pm. We took water and had ice creams when we got back home. My children do not need any pity but thanks anyway!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 10:28

One of the many times I'm so glad I'm welsh

EricaNernie · 25/04/2020 10:29

ridiculous op.
family picnic is not part of exercise, surely you know that.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/04/2020 10:30

It is here as well

"Stopping to rest or to have lunch on a longer walk is now also allowed, which might be news to many"

www.timeout.com/london/news/all-the-new-rules-on-exercising-and-moving-around-in-london-041720

We haven't done anything wrong. The responses on here are just typical of MN

You need to update yourself with the new guidance. Leaving the thread now for my own sanity.
