WTAF please tell me this film was written about something more than what we are going through now.

It’s already mentioned SARS so it isn’t based pre that.

This BB4 pandemic experiment from 2018 is also really interesting and gives a bit of insight into the planning that was being done for the next pandemic.

strawberry I’ve had a search with no luck so far but I’ll update if I find it.

Surely 28 Days Later is the example we should be looking at?

I loved Contagion back in 2011. Watched it again recently, still fab but omg, spookily familiar now!Confused

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 25/04/2020 13:44

@pinkpinecone Yes, it's a really good programme - I caught up with it only recently on iplayer. Shame the cabinet and/or DC & co apparently don't watch the BBC, eh!

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 25/04/2020 13:47

@ouch321 Are you thinking about Pandemic? That's also very good. No hysteria, just plain, cold facts.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 25/04/2020 15:15

I think it came out afte rthe big swine flu thing, and had pretty brilliant advertising (something about the poster in the promotional campaign being treated with something, and going 'live', as if it was covered with baceteria or some other organism and it started like a blank poster, and then the detail about the film started 'growing' on it gradually.)

I watched it again two weeks ago and it made it a very uncomfortable watch to be honest...

PuppyMonkey · 25/04/2020 15:24

I also watched Contagion the other day and was surprised at how accurate it was on many of the things we know about now - social distancing, the R0 thing, don’t touch your face, even the wacky Forsythia herbal remedy (reminded me of the vitamin D debate now) . I noticed all their health workers walked out though.

And what happened with all those children that only got a placebo rather than the real vaccine - the ones with the kidnapped woman etc?

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 15:32

I liked how a lot was the same as well, they referenced H1N1 so probably got a fair bit of information from the science around that.

2009 was H1N1 so a couple of years later.

Plus other earlier pandemics too

I remember the first time I watched it and it felt like a ‘thriller / horror l’ bit really but it was how it was billed. Now watching it it’s just now with a higher R0 and death rate.

Wejustdontknow · 25/04/2020 15:40

@Strawberrypancakes it was originally on E4, I have had a look online and it seems it is on American Netflix but I can’t find anywhere it could be watched from the U.K. which is a shame as it was a very good series

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 15:41

That was meant to say not really... but that was how it was billed

Itsjustmee · 25/04/2020 15:49

FortunesFavour
I watched 28 days later and 28 weeks later 😂 at the beginning of lockdown .
At least we’re not being turned in to man eating zombies
I also watched contagion and Outbreak but I prefer outbreak to contagion

An book that I enjoyed reading recently although it’s fiction and a bit of a James Bond style book is Pandemic by James Barrington .

Kingcole · 25/04/2020 15:55

I watched another film the other night about an outbreak of Nipah in India, fascinating and worth a watch.

Nottherealslimshady · 25/04/2020 16:00

We watched on netflix, I dont think they knew anything they shouldn't have if thags what you mean? It's nothing really unusual and I think if you were to write a film about a virus pandemic you would chose a Coronavirus due to the SARS MERS connections. Nothing really struck me as prophetic, just coincidental.

BanKittenHeels · 25/04/2020 16:04

But imo no pandemic movie will match the BBC Smallpox docudrama from late 2001 or early 2002
I still have nightmares about this.

LennyPugGoat · 25/04/2020 20:41

Containment is free to view with prime video on Amazon, just finished episode 1 and I’m gripped!

Are there two things called Containment? I watched a British film after reading this thread. Not bad, gritty low budget. Not as good as Contagion

bottleofbeer · 27/04/2020 22:11

I find outbreak a bit dated now and a bit too much of a nice, wrapped up happy ending. Contagion is better.

LennyPugGoat · 27/04/2020 22:25

Contagion was available to rent on sky but apparently it’s now on Netflix

Containment is available via amazon prime, prime videos. I found it really gripping as it deals with the situation forced upon a group of residents who where non the wiser before been put in forced lock down in a block of flats.

I couldn’t find containment anywhere else to view apart from Amazon.

OP posts:
LennyPugGoat · 27/04/2020 22:28

bottle I really agree, I did stick with it but I felt I was doing so just so I could see it IYKWIM contagion is far better.

I tried 28 days later but couldn’t get to grips with it.

Containment is completely different but worth a watch

OP posts:
Xylophonics · 27/04/2020 22:31

Thought Contagion was a really good film at the time and liked the ending. Seemed very realistic.
Outbreak was laughably unrealistic with vaccine production taking a weekend or so to solve the crisis.

Were not where and before being forced in to lock down

Looks like I can’t read, type, watch Tele, pretend to join in with rl conversations all at the same time....

Yes! I've been thinking of Cordon for weeks now! Brilliant series.

Wejustdontknow · 27/04/2020 22:43

The containment on prime is not the same as the containment that I recommended earlier, if the picture works this is the one I saw a few years ago but can’t find anything to watch it on again in the uk
