If you have a cough, as innocuous as you might think it is! Why are you out? Just walked on my daily walk for about half an hour. 3 people walking past in safe distance all coughing 🤨 what the hell is wrong with people 😞

OP posts:
hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 09:40

I have a tickly cough due to hay fever
Had it since the tree pollen season started
And shock horror I'm even allowed to still go to work....in a....hospital
Because I work with intelligent people who know
A. I wouldn't be selfish enough to risk infecting people if I really had covid
B. Brenda from mumsnet doesn't make the rules about who can and can't leave the house

Silvergreen · 25/04/2020 09:43

Maybe you should stay in if you're so fragile 🙄

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 09:45

Good point actually. MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously do you think NHS workers with hay fever should be staying at home? Or any other sort of cough?
My mum is frontline NHS. She had Covid19. She has recovered, but still has a residual cough. She was expected back at work after 7 days as her temperature had gone.

BelfryBat · 25/04/2020 09:46

I've got asthma and hay fever. I'm not staying in because of them.

madcatladyforever · 25/04/2020 09:46

Don't be ridiculous. Every cough is not covid-19.

I have a permanent cough from medication I take, ramipril specifically.

Other people have asthma, COPD, a perfectly normal cold, they are smokers, have lung cancer, post nasal drip, hay fever, heart failure, GORD - gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, chronic bronchitis etc etc.

If you are this paranoid and ignorant then please stay in your own home 24 hours a day or get yourself some PPE.

You can make your own at home or get patterns off ETSY.

Quartz2208 · 25/04/2020 09:46

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously but by that logic no one should be going out at all because most of the spread is before symptoms appear or by asymptomatic people. Because you are right we should be behaving as if anyone could have it - a cough actually isnt a particularly good indicator of that because trust me if you have the CV cough you know about it and wouldnt be going out

Scoobydoobywho · 25/04/2020 09:47

As pp have said I too have an annoying niggly cough through asthma and also blood pressure tablets that can also cause a cough. I shall not be staying in because of it.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 09:50

I could stay at home. But, I wear a mask in supermarkets and I'm not the one potentially infecting others by coughing and sneezing all over the place. But you lot would still be out there doing so. Meanwhile lockdown gets extended and the economy gets further tanked and people who are especially vulnerable have to stay home for even longer.
But as long as you can go for a walk, who cares

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 09:51

So you do think NHS workers should stay at home if they have a non Covid related cough? Or a residual cough after recovering from Covid? You’d better tell their employers then!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 09:52

Lockdown doesn't get extended because people go out
God the stupid really is strong
Sick of people who don't understand basic science telling people what to do

I had a major coughing fit on my last run because I inhaled a small insect. Bleugh!!!

Hazards of running at dusk to pass fewer people - more flies.

Also got one of the horrid things in my eye...

People cough for so many different reasons - my entire family had chesty coughs from January until late march - only cleared when the drs finally prescribed ABs and gave DH (previous history of lung mass) a chest x-ray!

Dartsplayer · 25/04/2020 09:54

One of the criteria/protocols they are following (amongst others) is sending any child back home with any symptoms for at least 48hrs - including coughing- the article did say it is going to be hard for children and families who have allergies/asthma especially now in the pollen season.

My son and I would never go to school or work all year round then as we both have allergies that, even though they are heightened in the spring/summer months, make us cough all year round

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2020 09:54

As I'm not 'coughing and sneezing all over the place' as I use a tissue or the crook of my elbow I'll carry on as normal unless someone who knows what they're talking about tells me otherwise.

Oh and MrsHunt, you still haven't answered the question, are you expecting me to stay at home until September?

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 09:54

Meanwhile lockdown gets extended and the economy gets further tanked and people who are especially vulnerable have to stay home for even longer

Lockdown will not be extended because people are following government guidelines on when they can/cannot go out.
Have you written to your MP if you think they guidance should be changed to ‘anyone with any cough at all, even from lifelong and chronic conditions, must stay at home until coronavirus is completely eradicated’? Might be worth a shot.

Rhubardandcustard · 25/04/2020 09:54

I cough when I exercise (walk) due to hay fever and asthma, so what you think I should stay inside forever now. Get a grip op if you don’t like it then you stay inside I for one will carry on as normal and still go outside for my one permitted exercise a day.

yerawizadari · 25/04/2020 09:58

All of us asthmatics and hay fever sufferers coughing all over this thread seem to have scared the OP off...

Signoftimes · 25/04/2020 10:00

Welcome to my hayfever season

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 10:03

Pink, yes I do think you should stay home. Certainly not go into busy places like supermarkets. If you must go out, I think you should wear a mask.

teenagetantrums · 25/04/2020 10:05

I cough..mainly because l smoke also have hayfever so am sneezing. My DP coughs it's a side effect of blood pressure medication. Guess we should stay home them. But then maybe not as we both key workers.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 10:06

Lockdown gets extended if the death figures don't drop. They won't drop if people keep getting infected at a high rate. Coughing and sneezing spreads disease. It's perfectly logical to tell you not to do this in public and if you can't control it, then stay home.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2020 10:08

Pink, yes I do think you should stay home.

Can I sit in the garden though? You never know, the neighbours might be in theirs at the same time.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 10:09

Given the government have explicitly said that you don’t need to self isolate with a cough unless it is new and continuous, they must be gauging the risk as pretty low, no?
