Sainsbury's

I don't know if I am been a drama queen if I am I'm sure you won't hesitate to tell me Grin.

Yesterday I went to Sainsbury's with my 5 year old. His dad was at work he's in the forces so a key worker. Before I got inside one of the blokes on the door stopped me and said they are asking for only 1 person per shopping trip. He then went on to say that rather than bringing my child in if I haven't got anybody to look after him, he could wait in the car...

After thinking about it I then messaged Sainsbury's on Facebook to say I didn't think it was an appropriate alternative to leave a young child in the car while I was in the shop and this is the response I got.

The second person is welcome to wait outside the store, at a safe distance, to support once the shop is complete. These measures are to protect as many people as possible. Thanks, Greg

So the question is am I over reacting?

It's illegal and dangerous. People need to use common sense.

CazzaCat · 23/04/2020 19:41

Honestly just for their pure stupidity I would ask to escalate this Confused.

Talk about jobsworth! Sure someone has posted something similar before not sure if it was Sainsbury’s though. YANBU

This is outrageous.

It's also a discrimination issue imo, as it will most affect single parents, 90% of whom are women.

SpillTheTeaa · 23/04/2020 19:45

Omg Blush why would they even suggest that

Brilliant thank you @JemNadies I tried to look for an email on their website to no avail. Hmm

I’m nhs and I arrived at 7.30 last Friday to be faced with a make employee shouting at people, who then challenged me for not queuing when I didn’t have to because nobody else in the queue was nhs and the store wouldn’t open for them just yet.

CheshireSplat · 23/04/2020 19:54

Completely inappropriate, but couldn't you have waited to go until OH wasn't at work? I am not taking my 5 year old shopping atm.

ghostyslovesheets · 23/04/2020 19:54

but you could have gone while his dad wasn't at work - alone?

I think this is a big issue for people who have no options such as lone parents who are isolating but not so much for couples sorry

cacaca · 23/04/2020 19:55

I wonder if I’ll get told to leave my baby outside or locked in the car when I have to do solo shopping when my husband leaves the country to work for 3 weeks? Ridiculous.

Diggingmyselfoutthehole · 23/04/2020 19:58

Sorry I should of been clearer when I say at work, he's currently staying on camp while he's on call.

So it was a case of needs must.

Get on Twitter, it's the only way.

Thanks Greg, guessing you have no kids. What an idiot.

TomTomRunner · 23/04/2020 20:05

Check the website for deliveries, I had a look on Monday just gone and spotted three vacant slots for yesterday Wednesday evening, but nothing else for the rest of the week it was totally random but I nabbed one!

CatBatCat · 23/04/2020 20:05

Id put money it being a chat bot that sent the message to you.

Mummyshark2019 · 23/04/2020 20:05

Outrageous. Sainsbury's have a lot to answer for. Make sure you escalate this up. Dispicable.

Sparkletastic · 23/04/2020 20:05

The chat bot hadn't read your message properly I suspect

PickAChew · 23/04/2020 20:07

Twitter doesn't work. You just get referred to the website or told to phone them.

I gave up on trying to get a refund for a ridiculous substitution from a delivery I had scheduled when it was all kicking off. I couldn't get through to an actual human.

It isn't based on any specific guidance: other supermarkets like ASDA, Waitrose, even Pets at home aren't asking for just 1 person per shopping trip so I wonder why Sainsburys (and Tescos I think) are asking for just 1 person per trip. This isn't feasible for so many people.

I would escalate this if you can be arsed.

Diggingmyselfoutthehole · 23/04/2020 20:13

I have sent them an email so lets see if I get a reply Confused

How did the person respond when you sent your reply?

Chillipeanuts · 23/04/2020 20:19

Don’t see the issue as long as the 5 year old sits in the trolley, parent follows the route and distancing. Presumably trolleys are cleaned between customers?
