Ages and ages ago I remember someone asked about a wedding dress they wanted and someone found it. So I thought I'd ask
My sons who has asd has this blanket from asda that he loves to sleep in wrap himself up suck on it etc he takes it everywhere with him. As you can imagine it can get quite dirty and when I wash it he just stands near the washing machine crying I don't even bother trying to dry it as he gets so upset without it. I've brought lots of different blankets as spares but he wont even go near them. Anyone help find me find a spare? Thanks

It's because of the smell, you have to wash a spare in your usual detergent and then sleep with it overnight etc till it has the same scent as the original.

PawPawNoodle · 22/04/2020 00:20

Could you post a better picture?

SquirtleSquad · 22/04/2020 00:24

What's on it? Foxes?

theneighbourswindchime · 22/04/2020 00:27

There was a website (something about a blue cup?) where you could post pictures of your ASD child's favourite lost item and people would help find a replacement...

Curoi · 22/04/2020 00:37

I did try and get a picture but he started to get distressed at me touching it. It's a grey blanket with pink and white and purple cats on it from asda cost about a fiver.

Search for the group Little blue cup on facebook they may be able to help source another.

Gingerkittykat · 22/04/2020 03:11

How many years ago was the original bought?

Dieu · 22/04/2020 08:22

I have no idea why parents encourage these dependencies! Appreciate - judging by the number of local newspaper and FB appeals I've seen - that I'm in the minority though.
If I'd lost my favourite toy as a kid, my parents would've told me to be more careful next time Grin

I remember that wedding dress thread - I would love to read it again!!

daisypond · 22/04/2020 08:37

Cut it in half. Then there’s two. Or just give him a scrap cut off one corner. It’ll likely be enough.

Good idea! I had a blanket when I was little and my parents did that. I ended up with a little square and was still happy (I still remember it, and I'm 60!)

An asd child who get distressed at his blanket being touched will meltdown completely if it is cut up. Terrible idea!

differentnameforthis · 22/04/2020 08:52

@Dieu

I'll assume you don't have a asd child.

It worked with my child.

OP I have my son on this for you..he works at asda head office I have just messaged him with your plight and he is mailing his team ..might come to nothing but worth a try for your son...if they can track down who manufactured it they might see if there is any still in circulation for you...fingers crossed...when he gets back to me I will get back to you..

blueskys72 · 22/04/2020 08:57

I do hope you can find one, OP! I was on a search for a replacement Asda baby blanket a few years ago but was unsuccessful Sad

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2020 09:00

Op, I’ve lightened the pic for you as it’s hard to see otherwise.

NewYearNewTwatName · 22/04/2020 09:01

Dieu wow, how could you not have bothered to read the OP? it's not even that long Confused

Angellegna · 22/04/2020 09:08

@Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe 🤞🏻

paradisefalls · 22/04/2020 09:11

Have you tried ebay? Dd loves her blanky and I was terrified of losing it. It was 5 years old from next as it was her big sisters. I found one so now we have a spare phew!

Wiaa · 22/04/2020 09:22

@Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe Halo

Blubelle7 · 22/04/2020 09:54

Did you miss the bit where OP said he has ASD. He cannot help it, it is not a dependency. It is already distressing for him to be separated from it for a short wash and would be even more so if he lost it and just had to "deal with it".

I'm just going to assume you missed the ASD bit because noone can be that heartless

Blubelle7 · 22/04/2020 09:56

Scally you are amazing and goodluck OP, my youngest DS is beginning to show 5hese characteristics. I have quite a few "blankies" from Asda so was hoping it was a print I had but sadly no. Hopefully Scally's DS will find one
