If you've lost weight

How much did you lose and how long did it take ?
I need to lose about 2.5 stone and I just can't get motivated and can't see that I'll ever be small again.

I've lost over 10lb since lockdown started using SlimmingWorld online and moderate exercise (some home workouts and some walking). I have half a stone to lose and then I will just be very overweight rather than obese and I'm hoping to do that by the end of May. 2.5 stones in total left to get back to a healthy weight right now. I will get there.

I have lost more before over longer periods, although I've never been this big.

MorrisZapp · 20/04/2020 09:37

I lost just over 1.5 stone last year. Took about five months I think. Best thing I've ever done, I'm trying for another half stone now. I can't do it in winter, it's a spring/summer thing for me.

Elouera · 20/04/2020 09:38

How quickly you lose weight will depend on your current BMI and how overweight you are.

I lost 10kg in about 4mths on a juice diet, after watching the film 'Sad, Fat and nearly dead'. I had SO much energy. I'd walk 30mins before work, do an 8hr shift, then go for another walk or swim afterwards. I felt great! Within 5mths of stopping it though, I'd put the 10kg back on, and even more!

Last year I did a keto diet. Again, lost 11kg, but it was slower, so maybe over 5mths. I know others have lost weight much quicker, but I did have occasional wine and other non-keto food, which definitely slowed things down. I also didn't have the instant energy boost that the juice diet gave me.

The keto seems a better lifestyle diet, because once you've lost the weight, you can dial it up and move onto a lower carb diet. You are also eating food, unlike the juice diet.

I would have continued, but currently pregnant. Best of luck x

I have lost more before over longer periods, although I've never been this big.

I should add that I'm this big at the moment due to baby weight gain, before someone turns up and says not to diet as it will make you fatter in the long-run Hmm (not true for me at least!).

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 20/04/2020 09:39

I've lost around a stone in a year. Gall Stones. Your welcome.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 20/04/2020 09:41

I lost six stones. I did it in stages over a number of years. However, the first three and a half stones probably took around six months. After that, I dropped a dress size a year and hit my target around the time of my 50th birthday.

I went to Weight Watchers as I needed the structure of a weekly check in: not popular with some but sure as hell worked for me.

I've lost a little more weight since then as I'm training for an event which requires me to be in the shape of my life with minimal body fat.

Start today and you'll be there in no time. Good luck Smile

Two stone, intermittent fasting. Easy peasy.

Put some back on since lockdown started though Grin

Falafellygood · 20/04/2020 09:43

I lost around 4 stone last year. Most was intentional, some through stress. It took me about 7 months.

willieversleep · 20/04/2020 09:45

@MaudBaileysGreenTurban did you limit your calorie intake when intermittent fasting? Also did you stick strictly to 16/8 or whichever version you did?

Temple29 · 20/04/2020 09:45

I lost 11kg/24lbs last year after pregnancy. My goal was 5kg but found the lifestyle change easy enough to keep up so continued. Took around 3 months to lose the first 5kg and probably another 3 for the rest. I mostly judged how I was doing on my clothes.

I stuck to 1200 calories a day and tracked it on my fitness pal but you have to be strict about it and smart about what you choose to eat to keep yourself full. For example I would have a baked potato for lunch because that was 100 calories and filling vs a slice of bread is around 100 calories but not as filling.

The app allows you to track your exercise too and you can have extra calories after exercise which I appreciated.

RustyBear · 20/04/2020 09:52

I lost just over 2 stone last year (from 10st 5 to 8st 5) using calorie counting with MyFitnessPal, plus a bit of extra exercise. The first stone took 2 months, the second another three, so 5 months in all. Since then (last October) I've been maintaining and generally average around 8st 3.
While losing I was on 1200 calories, now I usually have around 1700. I tend to ignore the extra calories from exercise it gives me (I average around 200 a day)

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 20/04/2020 12:09

willieversleep - never limited calories intentionally, I find calorie counting saps my will to live.

I just do a minimum of 16/8 every day (although this was usually more like 20/4 when I wasn't WFH). Drink water, black coffee, green tea during the fast period, eat whatever I want in the eating period. Works like a charm Grin

UnfinishedSymphon · 20/04/2020 12:10

9 stones in 2 years with WW, everything cooked from scratch with no WW products used

FatherWindyShepherdHenderson · 20/04/2020 12:30

I’ve lost 20kg since January by intermittent fasting/eating just one meal a day. It’s not for everyone but I struggle on ‘diets’ that encourage you to eat 3 meals a day and a snack in between as I find the more I am ‘supposed’ to eat, the more I want to eat and then I never stop thinking about when I can eat again! 😫

I cut out all sweet things and eat my meal late afternoon. I also drink 3 litres of water a day and a very small glass of orange juice. I also take supplements as I’m vegetarian. I’ve yet to partake in any regular exercise but I’m starting to walk more since the lockdown, so that’s helping.

I have a long way to go yet but I definitely feel loads better.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 20/04/2020 12:32

Just to say, I think I have everyone's weight... please can you come and get it back now before I get my derrière stuck in a garden chair! 😫

CaptainBrickbeard · 20/04/2020 12:37

I’ve lost weight and regained it over and over again since my teens in every possible variation of diet.

This year, I’ve lost almost three stone since 2nd January doing the Blood Sugar Diet/Fast 800 and I’ve stuck to it largely thanks to the thread on here which kept me in track for the first couple of months.

I’m finding it quite easy to stick to the principles in lockdown but I can’t restrict calories as much as when I was out all day and busy - being home definitely makes me eat more.

I think some kind of fasting is really key - I started out just trying to fast for twelve hours overnight (which basically means cutting out evening snacking) and got fairly reliably to 15:9. Again, I’ve let that slide a bit in lockdown and have definitely been more prone to an evening glass of wine or two.

I think it’s possible to lose weight pretty quickly. How to keep it off is something I can’t answer as I’ve never mastered it.

savemejebus · 20/04/2020 13:53

@CaptainBrickbeard please could you link that thread or push me in the general direction please? Can't find it (but I am a bit useless) - I have over 3 stone to lose, keep losing and regaining the same half a stone and am tipping towards obese

Notcoolmum · 20/04/2020 14:04

I lost 2.5 stone on slimming world. It took me from February to October with steady regular losses. Not managing it over lockdown!! Good luck.

OurChristmasMiracle · 20/04/2020 14:07

I’ve lost over 3 stone. A little more since lock down started too. I changed my diet. Cut out take aways and junk food. Started walking over getting on a bus. Joined the gym.

It took around a year to lose it but I’ve kept it off and it I’ve recently lost a little more and I am now at my goal weight.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/04/2020 14:13

Post-babies (13 month gap) I lost about 5 stone in 4.5 months. I wanted it gone before I went back to work when DS was 5.5 months. I used MFP and lots of exercise.

Imboredinthehouse · 20/04/2020 14:47

2 stone.
Around 11 months

Work out your TDEE. This is the amount of calories that you would consume to stay exactly the same weight, reduce the figure by 20% to find what calories total you should aim to consume to lose weight.

tdeecalculator.net

I use My Fitness Pal to log and track daily calories. I weigh and portion everything but seeing how many calories are in things really helps to decide if you actually want to eat those 6 biscuits, which would be almost a third of your daily calorie allowance, when you could have a full on meal for less calories and be more satisfied.

BlessMeDarkFather · 20/04/2020 14:49

6st in about a year

puds11 · 20/04/2020 14:51

@MaudBaileysGreenTurban how did you do the intermittent fasting? I think this will be the kick I need.

BadlyAgedMemes · 20/04/2020 14:54

I've lost 5 st over about a year.

I had lost weight several years ago very successfully with lchf, but that had mostly sloooowly come back, as I just didn't enjoy that way of eating (not a big meat eater, enjoy my bread and fruit etc). This past year all I've done is used MFP to count calories and started exercising more than previously. Got a Fitbit to motivate me with the exercise, and chatted with a nutritionist about the food side.

I have PCOS and take medication that's linked to weight gain, but it seems calories in vs calories out has worked exactly as predicted for me. I'm at a healthy weight now, and have been for a couple of months. Now to just keep motivated enough to maintain. That's always been my weak point.

Astrid84 · 20/04/2020 14:56

At my heaviest I was 12 stone (I know not the biggest) however I felt so awful with myself, I was depressed, I had no energy, my knees hurt, my skin was awful and to make it worse I always dressed in baggy clothes! I'm now 9 stone and size 6/8 (give or take, dependant on the day of the week Grin It took me 2 years to lose 3 stone! Yes, 2 whole years! I had barely any motivation and kept "falling off the wagon" if you will, too many ahem excuses, too many temptations. Until I became absolutely sick of myself and my situation. I thought to myself "I'm doing this to myself, I'm the reason I'm overweight, only me"

Everyone makes the same mistakes time and time again when it comes to weight loss;

You don't really want to lose weight because losing weight is just too much effort. You want to take a tea pill or drink a shake and you then just become your ideal weight! Although we all wish there was!

These pills and shakes and what have you are totally unrealistic because eventually you'll be lead by temptation again and you'll be back to square one.

Just STOP RIGHT THERE.

Every time you fail to lose weight because you started eating TONS after trying these shakes you make yourself feel bad each time and resign yourself to never losing weight. Weight loss is REALLY difficult if you are not in the right frame of mind to apply yourself to actually making some effort to it.

Weight loss is 80% what you and 20% exercise.
It's all calories in vs calories out. If you eat less than what you burn each day you will lose weight eventually. Start off with a small cut at first maybe 100-200 calories each day. There are loads of calorie trackers out there such as Myfitnesspal although I get that can be some effort for some but it helps you to get used to what calories are in your food. Now you could essentially eat ANYTHING as long as your calories each day are under what you burn HOWEVER say for example if you have a sugary snack breakfast, you are going to be hungry in a couple hours because it will not sustain you till lunch.

There needs to be some balance to your calories BUT you ARE still allowed your treats. If you cut and cut and cut you end up failing because you crave sustenance and usually this our choices are sugar or sugar because it's quick calories. So have your cake and eat it just make sure you've enough calories to have it.

Once you get your mind in order and eating habits try doing an extra 10-20 mins of walking each day. Then work up to bigger workouts.
