She hates me

I met this girl through old and we've been messaging for about a month.
The other day she brought up the fact that she has a business, I didn't know and was intrigued.
She sent me through some of the products she sells and I immediately saw it was MLM
So I mentioned the MLM before proceeding to research the products
Now she's acting really off with me.
Was Ibu to mention MLM?

The first thing I read on googling...

“2 April 2020

Just an FYI to anyone who is thinking about becoming a valentus rep, it is illegal to sell in the UK and you risk being fined upward of £40k by trading standards as it is not approved by the UK health standards agency and has no licence to sell in most countries outside of the US.
There is no scientific evidence or studies that prove any of the ingredients contribute to weight loss, there are though studies that prove the harmful effects some of its ingredients (even in the "new formula" have on the body. Not to mention it's an MLM (which is just another name for a pyramid scheme)
Lastly the CEO Dave Jordan has a history of jumping ship from MLMs just before they go under avoiding legal action.”

Now, not everything on the web is true, but I’d be giving her a wide berth!

Icantbelieveitsnotnutter · 20/04/2020 02:20

I was expecting it to be Younique. They are an absolute pain in the arse on FB.

perniciousdot · 20/04/2020 02:20

*I don’t draw a distinction between high functioning autism and Aspergers. Lots of people don’t, regardless of the DSMV.
**
*OP didn't mention 'high functioning' either. Also, whether you draw distinctions between diagnosis or not is irrelevant. You can't assume someone is comfortable being called an 'Aspie' simply because they have an autism diagnosis and you don't make a distinction. Your opinion is merely that so don't apply it to other people uninvited.

Aspie is just an informal (and quick) way of saying “person who has Aspergers” and many Aspies also consider “Aspie” an identity of sorts.

I know what it is. OP didn't mention having Aspergers.

!Does that cover whatever confused you?

I'm not confused. I just think you are damn rude.
I'm autistic, obviously, but if you labelled me an 'Aspie' because I told you that it would really bother me. Don't make assumptions about other people diagnosis.

ArriettyJones · 20/04/2020 02:20

I also regard hfa/ ag as the same

Oh good Grin

I was beginning to think I’d accidentally started another one of my 2am diplomatic incidents Confused

perniciousdot · 20/04/2020 02:22

I also regard hfa/ ag as the same

Sorry for the rant OP. It's just as well you think that since you were not given a choice there. Anyway, no more derailing from me Blush

Okay, noted. Not something I’ve really come across before, so that’s interesting.

Fortunately I said it to OP, not you, and we are both okay with being called “aspie”.

Bullet dodged! Smile

oldmlm · 20/04/2020 02:28

Oh dear! There are only two sides in this thread,
MLM
vs
Aspie/ autism OP

@perniciousdot I understand your point, I think it's with all the conflicting diagnosis' and new research etc. On my diagnosis report, it says hfa/ aspergers
I think @ArriettyJones didn't mean and didn't cause any offence (to me anyway) Smile

@lborgia I read that too! Her response: don't believe everything you read on the Internet, guess that would both ways Wink

Dontcoughnearme · 20/04/2020 02:38

I'm autistic also, if someone called me an aspie I'd 😖

ArriettyJones · 20/04/2020 02:39

I actually couldn’t tell you without checking whether my diagnosis paperwork says HFASC, HFASD or Aspergers.

However, I have three D.C. and all four of us have one or other of the above official diagnoses, and it is all much of a muchness in presentation between the four of us. We all call ourselves aspie. So that’s probably why. I muddle us up when trying to remember who was officially labelled what.

I do remember that at the time(s) my older two were diagnosed (a few years apart) both consultants told me the only significant diagnostic criterion that differed between Aspergers and ASC was whether there had been speech delay or not. So I probably mentally filed the distinction as of minor importance.

I’m aware thinking keeps changing very slightly, but I’ve given up following the changes.

Anyway, no offence intended and I’ll stop throwing fuel on the derailment now Grin

Back to the point, this is scary-funny;

Lynda07 · 20/04/2020 04:13

Not really outing, oldmim, plenty of people do what she does for a living. However, does it really matter? You don't actually know her, she's just an internet acquaintance.

oldmlm · 20/04/2020 04:33

@Lynda07 the subsequent information I provided means it's very outing.
It doesn't matter how I know her, it's still outing.
I wouldn't regard her as an Internet acquaintance.

@ArriettyJones I watched that and some of her other videos on it and then hinged on a whole host of videos on the products! I don't understand all these weight loss products. Do they work? If so, why aren't they in say, Boots?

OP posts:
Mucklowe · 20/04/2020 04:48

How is it outing?

oldmlm · 20/04/2020 04:59

@Mucklowe Read the post whereby I said it was outing.

The pp who wrote this HAS to be beans new to MN!

oldmlm · 20/04/2020 05:08

@MyOtherProfile Don't use "MN"

MamaFrey
Old is a dating site
Mlm is multi level marketing. Basically it’s a legalised pyramid scheme because products are involved in the recruitment process.

oldmlm
Lucky escape. Better to know she’s an mlm bot and was trying to recruit sooner rather than later.

FaithInfinity · 20/04/2020 08:39

To answer your question much easier OP (I went to bed after I posted!), I said it’s an MLM and it would probably cost her money in the long term and sent a link to an article debunking MLM. She replied that she had researched into it (which I doubt actually because if she really had she’d have seen it was a bad idea). She said basically worse case scenario she’d have leftover stock that she could use herself. Her friend got her into it so I guess the friend had waxed lyrical about it all and she was already sucked in when I was negative about it.

Interestingly I’m also autistic. I’m quite comfortable with yeh ‘Aspie’ label but my assessment does specifically say ‘Asperger’s’. But I’m far too blunt to date anyone who fell for MLM myself!
