To think people should cut the holiday companies some slack?

I’ve had my holiday cancelled for two weeks time - fair enough. Company are offering credit plus a discount on future holidays or you can apply for a refund but it could take several months.

I get this. They are obviously experiencing massively high call volumes, don’t have enough staff and are hemoraging money.

But loads of people are on SM demanding refunds, swearing, being rude etc. AIBU to think there are bigger problems and we should lay off for a while and let things die down?

I know it’s shit, I want my money back too but the cost is already sunk!

I can understand how customers want their money back instead of a voucher. I also see that long term they could go bust. Expecting customers to wait and re book is one ask but to expect to rebook at a higher price isn’t really fair.
I also think they shouldn’t of accepted any new bookings at the moment. A new holiday booking in middle of a pandemic is a bit crazy.

TUI updated their website yesterday. It's now holidays up to 11th June that are cancelled.

They are offering refund credit first and then refunds later.

We don't want a refund credit at all (if our holiday gets cancelled) does anyone know if we can insist on a refund from the get go?

Whatsgoingonrightnow · 02/05/2020 13:19

Guessing people are desperate for a refund because they have either lost their job or been furloughed on 80% so they’re now financially struggling. It’s a crap time for everyone really so can sympathise with both sides.

The 14 days that Kenwood said they would take to give me my refund have now passed. I chased them yesterday and they said it would be back on my card account by Thursday. I'd already waited 30 days before they told me it would be another 14. This is almost £10k of our money they are holding on to!

Disgusting isn't it. I've got another fortnight to wait before we hear from natwest insurance - edreams have been fucking hopeless.

Outside of Covid there is zero flexibility from companies such as TUI. They have been doing very well for years due to extortionate school holiday based costs, additional costs should You wish to sit next to your small children on a plane etc. Really not customer friendly at all.

Yet now they want us to be flexible and take credit notes etc?

No chance

Are you working for a holiday company???? Seriously??? You are being entirely unreasonable.

I booked a week away out of fear in March to complete my uni finals essay also. My husband and kids were going to school at the time. I have multiple health conditions that mean if I get the virus, I'm dead. I panicked. Booked a retreat on Monday 17th March for the 23rd March. 8 hours after booking it, I changed my mind. I tried to cancel as I didn't want to be away from my family at this time, when I was full of anxiety and fear (I have MH issues, which helped me make my choice around this.) They refused to allow me to cancel, even within a few hours of booking.
I figured I might as well go in the circumstances, as I seemed to have no choice regarding payment.

That Friday, Boris closed pubs and restaurants. That weekend before I was due to go, Cornish people posted placards along the main routes into Cornwall, saying, Idiots, Go Home.
I begged Sykes' Cottages to refund me on the Saturday - they wouldn't - would only allow me to postpone my trip to a different time in the next year. I explained that I didn't want this - didn't need it - I am graduating this year. I don't need a retreat after this time. The accommodation was for two which was fine when I booked it for me, but insufficient for my family. The purpose of this trip was a one off. I am not one to take holidays without my family on the whole - this one was a one off, due to feeling scared they'd get me sick and kill me.

Fast forward weeks on - these people are still refusing to refund me. They have offered me credit for future bookings from them - I don't want this because they have been in flagrant dereliction of the law, as expressed by the CMA right now. They want me to pay £40 to clean a studio shack, which is basically a summer house.

How anyone can defend these people is beyond me. Give your head a wobble OP.

I booked with Red Sea holidays and they have issued me with a credit not despite me telling them on numerous occasions that I don't want this and I want a refund.

Am I obliged to accept this and if I do will it affect the claim I have made under my credit card?

I was due to go on holiday in April and I rang Red Sea Holidays in March and asked them if I could transfer my dates. They said no unless I took a 70% loss which I refused as it's a lot of money for me. They should have let me transfer my holiday then, they refused so I want my money back now.

Awful service from Red Sea holidays, I don't see why I should be refused a refund when they should have been more accommodating with rebooking prior to the holiday.

Op, I have no skin in this game, but you are trying to come across as chill but I suspect that's because you are very sure you're getting a refund.

Put your money where your mouth is and tell us who you booked you with, how much you paid and what they have told you about a refund.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/05/2020 15:21

Well I finally got my refund from Kenwood! So relieved. They didn't make it easy but at least they came through in the end. We won't be rebooking anything. Priorities have definitely changed - for a while at least.

That's great news!
