To use online shopping

Bracing myself for this one in case it goes against me.

So I’m a frontline NHS worker. 2 DCs under 6. DH is self employed and WFH. He’s got work to be doing but has taken on the brunt of the childcare when I’m at work. As he’s not a key worker they’re not going to school or nursery. This means we’re earning less as he’s doing less hours and working evenings and weekends.
We’re in a better position than a lot of people and I really haven’t been moaning (well a little about my crappy PPE). Work has been stressful and both of us are either working or parenting solo when the other is working so there’s little relief.
We’ve been getting our shopping from Ocado for over 6 year. In fact I’ve been doing weekly online shopping since 2007 and can’t stand trying to do it any other way. Been getting a delivery every 7-10 days during lockdown as we’re smartpass customers.

So a friend has just shared a WhatsApp message pleading with people not to get online deliveries unless they have to as her elderly parents are struggling. Now I’m torn. I know it’s a first world problem but I’ve already given up my cleaner (still paying her) and I really want to throw myself on the floor and have a tantrum at the thought of giving up my Ocado deliveries. God,I think I sound like a spoiled brat.

So AIBU?

I've been using click and collect slots, purely to keep the delivery free for those shielded who cant leave the house. But I wouldnt be able to go into the super market as it causes me to severe anxiety when there isnt a pandemic so currently it's been almost impossible. Specially since they added in rules that only one person per household can go shopping!

I regularly peruse online supermarkets for slots for relatives and friends (tesco, asda, iceland) and you have to keep checking.but delivery slots do appear but they tend to be rather random

We get online delivery. The supermarket we use prioritises the vulnerable first then it's free for all. I feel sorry that my friends parents can't get a delivery but then they live 50 miles away so totally different supermarket it is coming from.

I hate this thought that everyone has to give up things that they’ve had and supported for years or be viewed as “selfish”. It’s hardly the OP’s responsibility to ensure vulnerable people she doesn’t even know can possibly get a food delivery. The supermarkets and the government need to be doing more. Presumably she has food delivery as this suits her lifestyle, this hasn’t changed just because there is more demand on the service.

Agree with above poster. I run an online business myself and my priority is always to keep my regular customers happy as its they who supported me in the past. If you dont treasure and appreciate your regular customers then they can easily become ex-customers broadcasting on social media about how they were abandoned when there was a problem. Customer service is judged by how the company acts when times are difficult or when there is a problem. Anyone can provide good service when its easy street,
