To think that a personality cult has developed around Boris Johnson?

I know this sounds completley ridiculous but have a quick look around social media and in particular Twitter, and you will see a disturbing number of people with lots of union flags in their twitter handle name who effectively think that the sun shines out of his arse, that he can do no wrong and that any justifiable criticism of his or his governments handling of the current crisis is part of a massive 'leftie' conspiracy against him.

They are terrified of 'lefties's and 'liberals' and think all of the media are out to get Boris and his government, it is just bat shit. Its not just Twitter either, I had to unfriend someone on Facebook after they told me that I should 'show Boris some fucking respect' a few weeks ago. This was after I'd shared something criticising his handling of the pandemic. Thankfully it was somone I don't really know that well and never have to see again, but still!

If im honest it all a bit disturbing. Its reminscent of a personality cult IMO, 'how dare you disrespect our glorious leader'.

Why have people given us these bloody morons, Boris especially

What is the point in going over and over this? There was no credible opposition at the time - THAT was the major issue!

We are where we are and we have to hold this gvt to account rather than slating the people who voted for it.

Lexilooo · 19/04/2020 13:26

Worked himself so hard but couldn't be arsed turning up to the first 5 COBRA meetings about the pandemic 🤔

He was never meant to stay, he's served his purpose as a mentally disturbed fuck now he can go

Leave it out with the mental health slurs FGS. You can make your point without being a complete dick about it surely? Hmm

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 19/04/2020 13:33

In a democracy, people generally get the leaders they deserve. If you believe the hookum of a quack-medicine seller on the back of a wagon, more fool you. If you can't be bothered to vote, don't complain when you're screwed. If you insist on your party adopting your personal crackpot obessions as its programme, don't say you won the argument when the voters tell you to fuck off.

NiteFlights · 19/04/2020 13:33

The man looked like death warmed up, clearly there are a lot of people who can’t spot a very ill human being

I agree. I couldn’t believe it when I saw people saying he didn’t look very ill. He looked dreadful.

IMO Keir Starmer is just as bad

Can you elaborate on this?

Applejaxx · 19/04/2020 13:34

These are the people who helped get him elected in the first place. What does that tell you that they’ve started to turn on him?

OP posts:
koshkatt · 19/04/2020 13:34

People believe everything they see on BBC News & what they read in the Scum & Daily Snail ... because of this they actually think he's alright

And this is bollocks too. Why present yourself as some super being immune to the press and the rest of the populace as mere thickos being led by the nose? Catch yourself on a bit.

koshkatt · 19/04/2020 13:35

These are the people who helped get him elected in the first place. What does that tell you that they’ve started to turn on him?

To whom are you referring here?

NiteFlights · 19/04/2020 13:37

There was no credible opposition at the time - THAT was the major issue!

This is a fair point. It’s just so disappointing that the Conservative party either: actually believed that Boris Johnson was the best candidate for leadership they had, or had so little faith in their supporters/the electorate that they felt they had to put up someone they knew was incompetent and likely to damage the country, simply because he was popular.

Peregrina · 19/04/2020 13:43

I couldn’t believe it when I saw people saying he didn’t look very ill. He looked dreadful.

Yes, he did, that's why all the guff about "he's working" sounded like a bit of propaganda.

MogeatDog · 19/04/2020 13:44

Some chump came a long and started having a go saying he was making it up, what could we expect, he was a fraud blah blah blah. Soon followed by the woke echo chamber. The man looked like death warmed up, clearly there are a lot of people who can’t spot a very ill human being or a lot of people so blinded by their own hatered they can’t be rational. Boris lies - everyone knows this - lots of people have chosen to forget it but the one thing we all learned as kids was that if you lie you won't be trusted to tell the truth.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2020 13:48

Daily Mail have never been Boris supporters but during the election of course they backed the Tory party

I’m not sure Boris has been favoured by any of the Tory press himself since leading the party but backing him in the election is a different matter

Boris doesn’t quite form those friendships within media as Blair and Cameron did

He will have the backing of many of the public. Starmer has to sort out the mess caused by Corbyn and co in the Labour Party he also has to establish himself and prove his leadership qualities. At the moment he really hasn’t got a platform to do that he will receive very little press attention

justasking111 · 19/04/2020 13:50

Someone bought me a teeshirt Boris for prime minister years ago. I do not think the support thing is new. It was the same with Jeremy Clarkson at the time.

kesstrel · 19/04/2020 13:51

There were other candidates to replace Theresa May as leader. A large number of members of the Conservative Party decided that they preferred Johnson in spite of his reputation for laziness and incompetence. We are seeing the short-sightedness of that now.

It's that vote that mattered, not the general election, because Corbyn never had a chance of winning.

Clavinova · 19/04/2020 13:53

Anyone can like a tweet Clarinova. Likes were probably from the 'its only flu' brigade of daily mail readers.

Actually, his non academic followers describe themselves as "lefties" and "Labour voters" Grin

Clavinova · 19/04/2020 14:38

chomalungma
clavinova What do you think of the 21st Feb Nervtag minutes?
And the immediate Government reaction to them....

I can see that the Chair of NERVTAG, Peter Horby, who also chaired that meeting, Tweeted/Retweeted this on the 3rd March;

Peter Horby Mar 3

"Worth a read - sensible, clear and proportionate."

Peter Horby Retweeted Professor Chris Whitty

"Professor Chris Whitty CMO_England
Today the government published the action plan for COVID-19. It outlines what we are doing now, and what we intend to do, to contain, delay, research and mitigate. We need to ensure our actions (including tradeoffs) and our timing are grounded on science."

"Peter Horby is Director of the Epidemic diseases Research Group at the University of Oxford. He is a public health physician and clinical academic who trained in adult medicine, infectious diseases and public health in the UK and Australia. He was previously Director of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Hanoi, Vietnam and has held positions with the UK Health Protection Agency and the World Health Organisation. He has worked extensively in resource constrained settings and has led research on a wide range of emerging and epidemic infections, including variant CJD, SARS, H5N1, H7N9, dengue, rabies, cholera, measles, rubella, Streptococcus suis, Hand Foot and Mouth Disease, and Ebola." Prof Horby advises the WHO on emerging infections.

Clavinova · 19/04/2020 14:40

"Prof Horby advises the WHO on emerging infections."

Missed the inverted commas.

jasjas1973 · 19/04/2020 14:54

None of the many Tories i know support Johnson, instead they feel sorry for him, which isn't a great look for a "leader" even one who is on long term sick.
I wonder if he will ever come back?

Even my Tory loving cousin, who bleeds blue blood, thinks he is an idiot for getting CV-19.

Clavinova · 19/04/2020 14:57

I wonder if he will ever come back?

I'm pretty keen on Gove and Sunak as well. Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2020 15:00

Of course he will come back more popular than ever

A survivor and the PM not to just lead us through Brexit but also Covod-19 - he isn't going to miss that opportunity

chomalungma · 19/04/2020 15:04

@Clavinova

I am asking you what YOU think.

Not what someone retweeted.

What do you think of the NERVAG minutes on 21st February

Clavinova · 19/04/2020 15:25

I am asking you what YOU think.

I think the UK is coping just as well as many other European countries with the same population size and/or demographic.

From your link - "Some members commented that there may be sustained transmission outside of Mainland China."

Says it all really.

chomalungma · 19/04/2020 15:27

I wonder what the Cobra meetings knew about this.

The public enquiry is going to be very interesting. Especially with regards to large scale events going ahead.

This is from the report.

To think that a personality cult has developed around Boris Johnson?
justasking111 · 19/04/2020 15:45

The report is two months old, we know more now two months on, a year from now who knows what we will know as fact.
