If you have really bad varicose veins all over your legs what do you wear in the summer?

Especially when at the seaside.

I don't but SIL and my aunt do. They wear maxi dresses or wide legged trousers in a thin fabric, those ankle grazer cropped trousers. SIL had this really comfortable looking baggy dungarees last summer that came down to mid-shin, like a jumpsuit but really loose.

bridgetreilly · 15/04/2020 18:26

Whatever I want.

Rover83 · 15/04/2020 18:27

3/4 length jeans, long skirts and dresses, linen trousers. I hate showing my legs as my varicose veins are awful but I'll wear anything below knee really as I'd rather be comfy

Flipper1234 · 15/04/2020 18:28

Fake tan. And then whatever I like!

UnrulySalvia · 15/04/2020 18:29

Really bad spider veins rather than varicose, but usually I wear wide leg linen trousers or maxi skirts.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 15/04/2020 18:29

I just dress the same as I did before I had varicose veins. I don’t try to hide them. Mainly midi dresses, cropped trousers or knee length shorts. You can’t see them from the front anyway Grin and I forget about them most of the time because they don’t hurt.

CatBatCat · 15/04/2020 18:32

The state of my various veins don't come into consideration when choosing what to wear.

MumInBrussels · 15/04/2020 19:30

I wear what I feel like - people presumably have better things to worry about than the state of my legs; it's really no one else's business, anyway.

hahaboink · 15/04/2020 19:34

I had my varicose veins removed and was the best thing I’ve done. Still see blue veins but they don’t stick out and look better when I’ve got a tan (real or fake). Mine was covered on my private health insurance as the doctor was worried about clotting.

Oddgirlout · 15/04/2020 19:37

Is there anything that can be done about spider veins?

chipsandgin · 15/04/2020 19:37

@hahaboink which method of removal did you have & would you recommend it?

LakieLady · 15/04/2020 19:43

Cropped (3/4 length) trousers, wide-legged linen trousers, calf-length dresses.

I bloody hate my veins. I had them stripped in 1988, when they still did stuff like that on the NHS, but within a few years, loads more had appeared. They bloody hurt too, if I have to stand for any length of time.

My late mother died of a pulmonary embolism that started as a DVT in her leg, so I get a bit paranoid about them, too.

hahaboink · 15/04/2020 19:45

It was endothermal ablation. Basically local anaesthetic and then inserting something in that heated up to close off the veins. Then support stockings for a month 😀

PinotAndPlaydough · 15/04/2020 19:47

Whatever the fuck I want.

OnTheMoors · 15/04/2020 19:55

Linen trousers

Shorts. Dont care what other people think.

Jellycatfox · 15/04/2020 20:07

I have had a huge one since I was 20. It stopped me from wearing short things until I was 25.
I then stopped giving a monkeys.
Who cares? Not me. People sometimes point it out! Still not covering up

Newtothis83 · 15/04/2020 20:08

Before surgery I wore compression leggings in summer because they were so painful, even more so in the heat. I had them stripped last year and despite the painful recovery it was the best decision I’ve made (had laser therapy previously but it just made new veins become worse so had total stripping)

TigerJoy · 15/04/2020 20:09

Fake tan makes a huge difference

Maxi dresses, capri pants where possible but i dont worry about it too much

Flesh coloured fishnets are good for formal events

Jellykat · 15/04/2020 20:15

Capri pants and leggings with dresses

Mine are really bad due to years of standing all day at work.

missyB1 · 15/04/2020 20:15

Mine are worst just behind my knee and just above. I wear knee length shorts or cropped trousers, maxi skirts etc
I’ve had them stripped surgically twice in the past but they eventually came back even worse!

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 15/04/2020 20:18

I have ugly veins, and spider veins and enlarged knotty veins on my legs

I just wear shorts , I live rurally

Somehow I don’t care enough to cover them up.

For work or to go into town I’d wear a skirt or cropped trousers though

FourEyesGood · 15/04/2020 20:21

I used to be very self-conscious about my varicose veins (and my generally lumpy legs), but then I decided I didn’t give a fuck and started wearing shorts last summer. It was amazing and I wish I’d been braver a couple of decades ago. Honestly, no one has vomited or screamed in terror at the sight of my legs so far!

missyB1 · 15/04/2020 20:24

I find they always look better with a tan. Try using fake tan or those tinted body moisturisers. I use a sanctuary one.
