On the basis that some headway has been made but it's still early days. Thoughts?

They have already said it will be...

ichifanny · 14/04/2020 19:18

Yep it does and will be

HoffiCoffi13 · 14/04/2020 19:20

Yes, that’s why we’ve been told it will be extended...

hamstersarse · 14/04/2020 19:21

why?

Cottagepieandpeas · 14/04/2020 19:23

Yes, way too early to think about easing up. It really annoys me that people keep pushing for it to be eased / lifted. If that happens we'll end up back at square one.

ChrissieKeller61 · 14/04/2020 19:45

I've heard the date 7th May banded around, any idea where that's from please ?

byebyebeautiful · 14/04/2020 19:45

Well that's decided then. I'll alert the press!

HoffiCoffi13 · 14/04/2020 19:47

7th May is 3 weeks from Thursday, which is when the current restrictions need to be reviewed by. So essentially a 3 week extension on current lockdown. It’s just speculation though, no dates have been given by the government.

HoffiCoffi13 · 14/04/2020 19:49

I personally think 7th May is very unlikely as the 8th is bank holiday, and there would be a load of idiots who think the lifting of some restrictions would mean that there is no longer any risk and would have massive house parties etc.
Remember it won’t be as simple as lockdown ending. Some restrictions will be lifted initially, many will stay in place.

Boireannachlaidir · 14/04/2020 19:49

There are so many people who unfortunately find it difficult to stay at home that they make everyone else suffer for longer, we'll be in this for at least 3 months I think.

I'm talking about those stupid idiots who are still going round to visit their relatives for a social visit.

Puffalicious · 14/04/2020 19:51

I know they're reviewing it on the 7th May but I don't think it'll be relaxed until at least June, I'm afraid.

Appuskidu · 14/04/2020 19:52

I would imagine they’ll be at least one further extension, so if they do extend till 7th, when it gets to the 7th, they’ll just extend for another 3 weeks then.

It’s all about managing expectations.

HoffiCoffi13 · 14/04/2020 19:52

This isn’t actually true Boireannachlaidir. There has been far higher compliance to the social distancing measures than the government expected/planned for.

arethereanyleftatall · 14/04/2020 19:53

I think what people think of a lockdown extension, depends on whether they are;

A) still getting paid, fine financially, like everyone in their household, have a garden and access to an open space, ie having a holiday right now or..

B) not getting paid, financially fucked, being abused/hate their spouse/kids, have no garden, no access to open space ie having a thoroughly shit time right now.

And everything in between.

HoffiCoffi13 · 14/04/2020 19:56

It certainly won’t be ‘end of lockdown, business as usual’ on the 7th May. Or even 3 weeks later. It’s likely to be a gradual lifting of restrictions, with social distancing remaining in place.

SorryDidISayThatOutLoud · 14/04/2020 20:02

I predict end of May if death toll drops and people keep social distancing. If they don’t because of idiots who flout the rules - end of July.

VioletCharlotte · 14/04/2020 20:11

I wish people would stop blaming all this on 'idiots who keep breaking the rules'. The vast majority are following the rules. As a PP said, people are being way more compliant than the government modelling anticipated.

If you want to blame someone, blame the government. They need to be held to account for not. acting sooner. For still letting flights into the county. For not having adequate PPE. For not prioritising testing. For not investing in the NHS.

This whole narrative of "let's blame Jim from next door because he went for two walks" is just what the government wants as it takes the heat off them.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/04/2020 20:15

VioletCharlotte has it spot on.

PhilCornwall1 · 14/04/2020 21:54

@VioletCharlotte completely agree. Whether I have two walks a day or one makes bugger all difference, but of course, I will be told different by all the experts on here.

They will start to relax this shit show when the NHS can cope. Whether anyone actually dies going forward is of no concern to the government. Hell, they don't really care now, the just don't want the hospitals swamped.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2020 07:19

The lockdown is going to be in place as long as it needs to be, how long for nobody knows at the moment and it will be reviewed and modified as necessary every three weeks.

I have no idea why anybody thinks differently or that everything will be back to normal on x date in the future.

Penners99 · 15/04/2020 08:19

My personal hope is for the lockdown to cover until the end of my, to cover both Bank Holidays.
Tough measures for tough times.

Penners99 · 15/04/2020 08:20

May!! FFS

Hingeandbracket · 15/04/2020 08:22

How do you know?

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2020 08:31

How do you know

Well, what do you think will happen if we all start going to pubs and restaurants, gyms, cinemas, seeing our families, going to the beach and sitting shoulder to shoulder on the wall outside the chip shop, flying here there and everywhere and sending DC to school?

Coronavirus hasn't gone away, people are still getting infected, it's just being slowed down, hopefully to a level that the NHS can cope with, because that's the point of lockdown. Not to stop it in it's tracks and make it magically vanish but to slow it down so the hospitals aren't overwhelmd and there are many more deaths because there isn't enough beds/equipment/staff to cope.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/04/2020 08:37

It will be. I don't think it will go on past the end of May though as that's when furlough ends currently.
