To wonder how the heck i have caught whatever i have

Low grade fever, scratchy throat, fuzzy head, dry eyes.

I have been locked down for over 4 weeks working from home and family have been home. No shops-DH has been once a week. A few small deliveries. I have washed hands on handling anything that has come in the house like post etc. Family have been going out for walks occasionally in the quiet streets nearby. I have been for one walk on friday, spoke to noone. A runner came past me within 1 metre. That is the only time i have been near anyone outside my family for 4 weeks.

Could i have the dreaded 'rona? And even if i havent, how have i caught whatever cold or bug this is. Its not fair!

I also get these symptoms with hayfever and mine has kicked in this week despite not going outside at all

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 13/04/2020 22:52

Good luck OP. Let us know tomorrow, if they work. They may also have the added benefit of helping you sleep. Please excuse my atrocious spelling I’m my post. Chin chin 🍷

Stevienickssleeves · 13/04/2020 22:53

As for the cleaning, not so much. I have a 12 yo who is reasonably cleanish. I have not, and i am kicking myself, cleaned the shopping. It seemed insurmountable to individually wipe down dozens of packets and legumes. I will be doing from now on though,

Coronavirus incubation period has been reported to be up to 24 days, but that's an outlier. It's normally under 10. However, they don't really have a lot of data on it yet and I speculate that one of the reasons this thing is so very bloody good at proliferating is that like chicken pox, measles, mumps and rubella, it has a longer incubation period than they want to accept. The cold has an incubation period of 1-3 days, so it's not that.

Hay fever, contrary to its name, does not give a fever. Reasons for fever, and I quote:

Fever or elevated body temperature might be caused by:

A virus

A bacterial infection

Heat exhaustion

Certain inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis — inflammation of the lining of your joints (synovium)

A malignant tumor

Some medications, such as antibiotics and drugs used to treat high blood pressure or seizures

Some immunizations, such as the diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP) or pneumococcal vaccine

Hope it is Hayfever , it is certainly very polleny at the moment.
Otherwise, from your DH, or a delivery person ?

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 13/04/2020 23:00

I've never suffered from hayfever in my 55 years on this planet but seem to have developed the symptoms this year. Runny nose, constant sneezing, itchy eyes ..
It could we be that.

Stevienickssleeves · 13/04/2020 23:02

Thanks for the calming messages all xxx

Despite hefty antihistamines and steroid nasal spray I have itchy throat and snotty nose and it feels exactly like the hayfever and allergies the meds are for in the first place!

Hugs - it's fairly miserable x

Ouch44 · 13/04/2020 23:06

I've been waking up with a sniffy nose this week. I don't usually get hay fever. DH does and he's been back on the antihistamines this week.

Never heard of dry eyes as a symptom of CV.

custodiandiscount · 13/04/2020 23:07

My eyes have been really itchy too, good to hear it's not just me! I don't normally get started until May.

Natsel84 · 13/04/2020 23:07

My husband has suffered terrible hayfever today headache and red raw eyes

thepeopleversuswork · 13/04/2020 23:11

The pollen count is very high -- I've only ever had hay fever once before in my life and have it now.

ThenSheSaidMore · 13/04/2020 23:13

I get hay fever this time of year every year. Despite antihistamines this last few days has been bad. I don't get very sneezy, just feel rubbish and have sore eyes. Without antihistamines I also get a cough, which is far from helpful just now.

DrBlackbird · 13/04/2020 23:14

The virus is still relatively new territory for the medical world and it's been learning 'on the job' over the last few months with large gaps in knowledge. Incubation time is one such gap. Your symptoms may be nothing, but it won't hurt and can help if you act as though you have the virus over the next few days in terms of resting, taking extra precautions and seeing how you feel. If you don't have a thermometer, feeling your forehead with the inside of the wrist can give you a rough estimate of fever.

littleeasterbonnet · 13/04/2020 23:17

I've suffered with hay fever for 50 years. You don't get a temperature.

Having said that, the tree pollen count is really high just now.

lljkk · 13/04/2020 23:18

I don't get hayfever, but I do notice the oilseed rape smell. It's very strong this year, so far. There's a lot of it. I thought that right now (April-May) is peak grass and tree pollen season.

KoalasandRabbit · 13/04/2020 23:23

I have this plus a cough and chest pain but I think it's hayfever which is going into hayfever induced asthma. I never got hayfever until last year when we got indoor rabbits and it's been non-stop ever since. I had a cough and breathing issues with it last year, never went to doctors as once all hay gone could breathe again. I've not been out for weeks and no-one else has symptoms. I get like a burning tongue, itchy watery eyes too. I think this year people are hyper aware as well.

MMN123 · 13/04/2020 23:23

My hay fever has been dreadful today and yesterday. Taken piriton and ceterizine and it’s barely having any effect - but it’s definitely hay fever and not covid. Eyes streaming, sneezing, nose running. Very high birch pollen count at the moment and set to be a bad year generally for hay fever.

Hollyhobbi · 13/04/2020 23:24

Why was everyone in the house feeling your forehead? Do you really think that was OK?

Theflushedzebra · 13/04/2020 23:28

Dh went down with flu symptoms on 23 Mar - he's over it now, we don't know whether it was flu, the dreaded corona, or something else. But we were both shocked that he could catch anything at all - we had been so careful. He's been WFH for 3 weeks. Handwashing like maniacs.

If it was corona, we suspect DD was the source, she had known cases at school - even though we kept her off school since 13 March - that's within the incubation period. And said she had a tight chest the week before, which I dismissed as probably her imagination (because she was fine in herself).

This is such a nasty little virus, and so very infectious, I think you can get from a jogger running fast past you huffing and puffing, or a delivery person or shop person getting too close, or even from your shopping. We still don't know whether he/DD had it or not, but we're being really paranoid now and washing our groceries.

Melroses · 13/04/2020 23:28

The silver birch is really bad at the moment. I coughed a lot, irritated throat, and was feeling heavy on the chest on Thursday. A shower helps.

Walkaround · 13/04/2020 23:29

Have you been eating any out of date food?

Theflushedzebra · 13/04/2020 23:31

Oh and if you do think you've got it, isolate yourself from the rest of your household as much as you can. You are most contagious when you've developed symptoms, from what I've read. We isolated DH in the bedroom, I literally delivered food/drinks/medication to the door., and he didn't move from that room for 9 days. Luckily it has an ensuite bathroom.

Rabblemum · 13/04/2020 23:39

Pretty sure I’ve had the Covids and it’s com back. One of the biggest symptoms is utter exhaustion, a temperature and shivers.

Theflushedzebra · 13/04/2020 23:41

ps. I hope it just is hayfever, OP. Just thought I'd post our experience fyi.
