Was going to take dd to the cinema to see the new Trolls movie, but for obvious reasons we can't. I heard it was going to be available to rent on Amazon Prime for a one time view, and expected it to be 5 pounds at the most. Turns out the bloody thing costs 16 pounds to view ONCE.
No way in hell am I paying 16 quid for a kids movie you don't even get to keep.

AIBU to be shocked at this price?

Hang on a mo.
We can watch cinema films?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2020 18:45

How do I find a list of what is available?

cheeseychovolate · 13/04/2020 18:46

An adult cinema ticket where I am is £10.50 for 2D so I think the trolls watch at home is a good deal.

Easilyanxious · 13/04/2020 18:48

Our local cinema is about £8 a child and more for an adult and sky seem to of stopped the but and keep sending a dvd thing just get to keep it on your box
New real ease that should of been at cinema so they can warrant higher price as I expect it cost them a lot to access it

MrsRaab · 13/04/2020 18:49

We wanted to buy it but could only find it to rent and also thought £15 was crazy money that's how much I'd expect to pay to buy it.

UpAndGoing · 13/04/2020 18:49

This is unrelated to the actual topic but DSis has said there's a song in it called Russian Roullete about murder and revenge.... ok.... Confused

@OhYouBadBadKitten here, found this: How can I watch Trolls World Tour in the UK
Folks in the UK can rent Trolls World Tour via Amazon, as well as other standard outlets, including the Sky Store, iTunes/Apple TV (which is still a confusing naming situation) and Google Play.

Trolls World Tour costs £15.99.

I bought a firestick.

Watched it for free on the apps

Mammyloveswine · 13/04/2020 18:54

Omg it's free on sky!

SonjaMorgan · 13/04/2020 18:54

Don't pay for it. We have an independent cinema that is £4 a ticket. We go regularly to support it as a business.

Disney + is cheap for what it is and they have a massive back catalogue.

44PumpLane · 13/04/2020 18:55

My local Vue is every film every day for £4.99, with corporate perks I can get it for £4.75, using meercat movies I can get 2 for 1 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so I can see a brand new release at the cinema for 2 people for £4.75.......definitely won't be renting any new filma for £16.99!!!!

UpAndGoing · 13/04/2020 18:57

@Mammyloveswine it is?! I can watch it without breaking the law, yeyy!

jazzandh · 13/04/2020 18:58

Well if you want to buy it and keep it , in the usual way, I think you will have to wait until it is on DVD/download release.

It's just a way of watching something that would only be at the cinemas.

I hate going to the cinema, but I would actually consider this even though it is more expensive than a general release.

Amazon Prime has a few available at the premium price.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2020 18:59

Thanks UpandGoing :) Trolls isn't my thing but thanks to you, I've just discovered we can watch the Rise of Skywalker.
You are right, it is really expensive. But it has still cheered me up a bit.

Xmasbaby11 · 13/04/2020 18:59

We have Sky so already pay a lot and there's tons for the family to watch, so I don't think we'd pay it when there's so much included already. I'm sure the price will come down in a couple of months. If the kids were totally mad on it and we had planned a cinema visit, I might have thought differently but it's not really special enough for us.

Lippy1234 · 13/04/2020 19:00

I think wait a few weeks and it will cost less on Amazon Prime. I often put expensive films on my watchlist and then watch them when they are £4.49 or £5.99 instead of £9.99.

StapleMyBananas · 13/04/2020 19:00

£16 to watch a film in my own home. On a tv I paid for. Using electricity I pay for. Sat on seats I paid for.

They can sod off.

jazzandh · 13/04/2020 19:00

I assume that local cinemas are not actually open, so it is irrelevant what they would normally charge?!

Candodad · 13/04/2020 19:01

Of course it is cinema price. You will find that just like the cinema much of this is going to the film company. Other than the quid or so Sky make the price will be out of their control.

jazzandh · 13/04/2020 19:02

Now TV often has some decent films fairly recently released and for a monthly subscription.

They can be much better value than Amazon even if you already pay for a prime subscription.

alloutoffucks · 13/04/2020 19:02

I am amazed at how much of you pay at the cinema. This is what it would have cost us for an adult and 2 kids.
And why include the price of snacks in your calculation when you are not getting snacks included?

alloutoffucks · 13/04/2020 19:04

And sitting at home watching a film on TV is not the same as going to the cinema. Amazes me how much money some people will waste.

Marmite27 · 13/04/2020 19:04

I would have paid it, if it was buy and keep (dvd sent when manufactured and available to rewatch on sky). But not paying that amount for a one off view at home. I’ve got preschoolers who won’t understand why we can’t just watch it again at home, but would understand if we went to the cinema.

tootiredtospeak · 13/04/2020 19:08

We paid it 16 and so far the kids have watched it 4 times. I have easily saved ten times this during lockdown so to me it was worth it...its a great film too.

TippledPink · 13/04/2020 19:08

It's a brand new film- it's not the same as streaming any older films. It's not the same as a kids club deal. They are trying to bring it to you now rather than waiting for lockdown to be over, no one is forcing you to watch it! If price is an issue just wait a few weeks and it will almost certainly be cheaper.

It's about the price I would expect, going by cinema prices round here. I'm Southeast and kids tickets are £9 each, adults £12.
