AIBU to think that the people clapping are Tory and UKIP voters who thought running down public services and ethnic staff wouldn't hurt them, but somebody else?

........ and they've now realised that they're as much in the firing line as anyone else?

OP posts:

It’s not harming anyone and it won’t cause people to lose their political integrity.

When the applause stops and COVID19 is over people are free to continue supporting the run down of the NHS and policies curbing migrant health care professionals working in the UK. Almost as if nothing ever happened.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/04/2020 13:05

You do know op that there are some Tory voters that work for the NHS

StCharlotte · 13/04/2020 13:15

Kippers? Sealions surely?

Anyway YABU. I clap - mostly because one of my neighbours is a paramedic and another a nurse.

And you do realise there isn't a single constituency where the Tories got in with 100% of the vote don't you?

So in my naice street in my naice Surrey town, chances are some of us clappers will not have voted Tory, including myself.

There is also no party which fits all of everyone's bill.

Can't believe I'm wasting my time responding to this.

Livelovebehappy · 13/04/2020 13:16

You’re over analysing OP. People from all walks of life and all political persuasions do the clapping. And they mean it. I don’t do it because I feel I really don’t need to stand on my doorstep and clap once a week, as I am very grateful for what the NHS are doing and don’t feel I need to publicly clap to show that appreciation. But I recognise others feel better for showing their gratitude in this way, and I’m guessing not one of them really gives head space to comments from someone trying to score political points off the back of a tragic situation.

Stantons · 13/04/2020 13:29

Very unreasonable. I live in a Labour stronghold and lots of clapping here. They Labour lot are loving having some thing else to complain about regarding the tories on our local Facebook page

TSSDNCOP · 13/04/2020 13:29

How many hours did you spend thinking this one up?

NameChangeNugget · 13/04/2020 13:34

Do you have any hobbies?

arethereanyleftatall · 13/04/2020 13:34

Yabu.
I clap to show my appreciation, my politics are irrelevant.
I think corona has shown us that the vast majority of people are lovely, and will help others, regardless of their politics.
And, it's really shown up who the utter bellends are - who judge others and think of drivel like this. Luckily it's a minority

DeeCeeCherry · 13/04/2020 13:38

OP yeah of course they are. I don't doubt that some are genuine, but heavily among them are those who put their racism and prejudice before the NHS.

But this will go the same way as Brexit discussions with the total denial that an anti-foreigners mindset directly influenced their vote for a government that's shat all over the NHS. Get the immigrants out was far more important than making a stand against what's being done to the health service for working classes. UK is the master of not admitting what others can blatantly see anyway.

ArriettyJones · 13/04/2020 14:11

Poor arrietty grin

I should really hide the whole Coronavirus board Rufus but if the bonkersness is creeping into AIBU again, there’s no point Smile

LastTrainEast · 13/04/2020 14:12

j712adrian you checked them all? lol

rosie1959 · 13/04/2020 14:16

Funny I thought people were clapping for the NHS and all the frontline workers
If you want to read Batshit comments look no further than MN sometimes think it's a parallel universe
This is no time for petty politics point scoring

sleepingpup · 13/04/2020 14:19

oh bore away OP.

Just file this under

'Why are people overreacting it's just like flu?'

and

'But I'll just get a delivery if something happens'

Go and do a quiz or something.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 13/04/2020 14:52

but if the bonkersness is creeping into AIBU again, there’s no point

I think even MNHQ has given up moving threads

Poor MNHQ Sad

foamrolling · 13/04/2020 14:54

Ha. I'm so left I'm almost a socialist. I still think it's bizarre to assume that everyone clapping is of a particular political leaning.

The statement about running down public services I don't necessarily disagree with. But I don't see what the hell that has to do with people clapping.

If justanother won the Internet with that post, it's a very slow day for the Internet.

Joliany · 13/04/2020 14:55

Odfod.

Clavinova · 13/04/2020 14:55

There's more - Owen Jones is clapping like an 'overzealous seal' Grin

"Health workers are risking their health–even their lives–and are overwhelmed as the coronavirus tsunami hits."
"The least we can do is to show our appreciation: I'll be clapping like an overzealous seal tonight at 8pm, let's make sure we all do it." #ClapForCarers #ClapForNHS

— Owen Jones🌹

Clavinova · 13/04/2020 15:00

"Keir Starmer and Victoria Starmer also paid tribute outside their home."

Oh dear.

SuckingDieselFella · 13/04/2020 15:04

Yet another thread on the same moronic topic?

Do you really think you'll get a different response if you repeat it ad nauseam?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/04/2020 15:09

Congratulations on spectuarly missing the OP's point Clavinova.

The NHS is for life, not just for pandemics.
