...Stepchild thinks we are extremely unreasonable because he has 'only' had 1 small bag of mini eggs, one small egg, one small bunny (all part of an egg hunt kit), a decent piece of easter egg brownie and half a medium sized egg! Are we being unreasonable to say they have had enough for today?

DS (8) was given about ten eggs by family, mostly because his birthday happened during lockdown and they couldn’t get him presents, but despite the fact that we haven’t restricted, has only eaten less than half of one — which doesn’t surprise me. His eyes are always way bigger than his stomach.

hiredandsqueak · 12/04/2020 18:51

Dd 17 has one Thorntons white bunny because she doesn't really eat chocolate but does occasionally like white chocolate.I bought it for her because I bought eggs for her older siblings. She hasn't opened it, chances are she won't eat it and I will use it for baking later on.

darkchocolateeggs · 12/04/2020 18:55

Mine are 4 and 7. We have no restrictions on Easter Sunday. I would say they've eaten the equivalent of 2-3 medium eggs each and a few mini eggs plus some Easter cake. But have actually ripped open more than that and eaten bits of each! It's one of 2 days in the whole year they can regulate their chocolate intake themselves! Except at Christmas they don't get given as much to save room for dinner. They haven't had any proper meals today apart from breakfast Blush

I am quite mean tho and have already chucked the random bits that were left over and will only keep a few mini eggs for occasional treats now.

I don't get it when people say their kids will make themselves sick unless they have actually tried it (which I know you have op). Dd1 made herself sick at a birthday once eating too much and has learnt from that and never does now. And was actually fine with me chucking the rest of her chocolate bits as she knows it doesn't make her feel great and is happy with her annual binge. I know she'll be looking forward to proper food tomorrow. I know it depends on the child but sometimes I think it's worth seeing if they can regulate things themselves from time to time. It's only Easter once a year.

mine have (and always had) unlimited access to sweets. they are 3 and 7
7 year old had 3 bags of mini haribo
3 year old had 1 mini lindt bunny and 4 mini lindor eggs.
There is plenty more, but they know to eat sensibly.

Passmethecrisps · 12/04/2020 19:00

My eldest hS always been very good as self-limiting so we would generally let her get on with it. She ate half a galaxy caramel egg earlier and ended up gagging on it.

My youngest is an absolute gannet and would just eat until she puked.

Of course there are limits - they get a huge amount. They get more chocolate than usual including some in the morning

TerrorWig · 12/04/2020 19:03

One egg each because that’s what I bought them. They are good at self-regulating though, if they had more they might eat it all but they wouldn’t moan.

Probably Grin

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 12/04/2020 19:08

My youngest is an absolute gannet and would just eat until she puked.

Same with my youngest. I would love to smugly say he can self-limit but when it comes to chocolate he's a greedy wee shite.

DC are 6 and 12 and got were allowed to open one egg this morning.

Pinksaffire · 12/04/2020 19:14

Mine are 8&10 and have eaten maybe 1 each.

We don’t limit what they eat on Easter Sunday and they are allowed to keep their chocolate in their rooms but have to ask before they eat it.
They still have Christmas chocolate left!

I wish I was as restrained as them as my large Easter egg will be gone by Tuesday at the latest Blush

Poetryinaction · 12/04/2020 19:27

I bought the £1 eggs for my kids age 6, 4 and 2. The 6 yo ate half. The 4 yo ate a few bites and the 2 yo only managed 2 chocolate buttons. Later we did a hunt with mini eggs. The 6 yo ate 7, the 4 yo ate 2, the 2 yo ate 1.
Turns out they can't eat much. They haven't asked for more.

Phifedean123 · 12/04/2020 19:30

2 year old had a small milkybar chocolate bunny. I suppose I'll have to help him with the rest 🤷‍♀️

fairyfingers · 12/04/2020 19:30

Mine got 1 medium size, 1 small and a cream egg. They are preteens.

As always it's up to them to self regulate. Always been that way since they were little and they're pretty good at self regulation

Rosebel · 12/04/2020 19:32

My 11 year old has had 2 kinder eggs and a bar from one of her big eggs (1 from us and 1 from my parents). My 13 years old has had 2 kinder eggs. I thought they would have eaten more but impressed they haven't. Not yet anyway.

Rockbird · 12/04/2020 19:34

Mine got four med-large eggs each and some little things. All bets are off on Easter Sunday/Monday but I told them if they make themselves sick I won't be clearing it up and not to come complaining to me!

As it turns out they're regulating pretty well. I'd rather just get it over with although I do have a mega box of rice crispies in reserve waiting for melted chocolate...

CeriseClementine · 12/04/2020 19:35

I couldn’t even tell you. A lot.

Ages 12, 9 and 2.

12help34please56 · 12/04/2020 19:38

We had an egg hunt in the house first thing so my primary age children ate a big handful of the small eggs (mini egg size) and then surprise surprise dd didn't want any breakfast. DH got really cross and it ended up with her crying in her room for half an hour - it totally took all the joy out of it. I wish for one day he'd have just thrown caution to the wind and see that she'd have survived a day without breakfast! Unfortunately I was in the shower when it started or I'd have defused it

SpiltMilk100 · 12/04/2020 19:38

DS is 3.5, he had a little Fredo treasure thing which had a small amount of chocolate buttons in it, half a dairy milk egg, and the ears and half the head of a medium sized chocolate bunny. He'd have scoffed everything he got given the chance, must have asked for chocolate about 50 times before lunch. Then I think he forgot about it as he was too busy playing in the garden this afternoon 😂

Ginblooded · 12/04/2020 19:39

My DS is a weird child - he's eaten his 7 mini eggs things (like the ones you get in the net bags) that we used for the egg hunt this morning. I asked if he wanted to eat his chocolate sloth after dinner and he said no and had a yogurt 😂 he is 9 and more of a haribo type person, not a huge chocolate fan anyway.

I am planning on devouring a massive Easter egg to myself later

Craiglang · 12/04/2020 19:40

Almost 8, 6 and 3.5. They've each had three very small eggs from an "Easter egg hunt" box from Lidl. They each have four left which we will space out at one egg a day. That's all they got. I'm actually glad for isolation and they didn't receive a ridiculous amount from in-laws and my side that that usually do and we end up throwing it all away.

Whathappenedtothelego · 12/04/2020 19:49

Today DC have each had 1/4 of a fairly large egg, 3 mini eggs and a quarter of a tube of smarties.

They also had a pain au chocolat at breakfast, and we had sticky toffee pudding for pudding this evening.

I do police Easter chocolate - you can either share it all out among the whole family for pudding, or if you want to keep it to yourself, then you have to break off a "reasonable" portion and put the rest aside for the next day - it usually says on the side of the box what an appropriate portion is, so easy to do.
I follow the same rules myself.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 12/04/2020 19:51

Mine are 14,10 & 9. Xmas and Easter is the only time they are allowed to eat chocolate for breakfast, the only rule is they make sure they have room to eat their roast dinner. My 10 year old makes her last a lot longer than her brother and sister. All have had small box of mini eggs, malteaser bunny and some medium egg

recycledbottle · 12/04/2020 20:14

1 small egg. He will eat the sweets tomorrow that come with it. Nine year old

Neverenoughcoffee · 12/04/2020 20:32

As much as they want. They each have a medium sized egg and there's a communal bowl of eggs from the garden egg hunt that they can go at as much as they want.

I can guarantee I'll eat a lot more chocolate than them!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/04/2020 20:40

We always had plenty of Easter eggs as kids, but the small ones that it's very hard to find as 'standard' ones that are usually on offer here for £1 are bigger.

We were allowed one half, or one contents of an egg daily as. And would often put a scoop of ice cream in half an egg to have it as pudding.
