To ask how much Easter Chocolate your kids will eat today and what age they are....

...Stepchild thinks we are extremely unreasonable because he has 'only' had 1 small bag of mini eggs, one small egg, one small bunny (all part of an egg hunt kit), a decent piece of easter egg brownie and half a medium sized egg! Are we being unreasonable to say they have had enough for today?

My 9yo still has a bit left over from Christmas. We don’t set limits: they can choose how fast they eat their Easter eggs. All three got one large, one medium, six small hollow eggs and some mini chocolate eggs and a bunny. I expect my 14yo to eat his before the month is out, but the 9yo will have a few left in the cupboard at the end of the summer.

Whattodo121 · 12/04/2020 17:43

Funnily enough I was going to ask this question earlier! Ds nearly eight has eaten three of those small hollow ones (the ones you get in a basket of about 20 from Tesco wrapped in foil to to do an egg hunt with) and a Percy pig egg from M and S over the course of today.

MoFoFlo · 12/04/2020 17:49

My 13 year old is upset about her Easter egg stash, especially after chatting to friends. She had a small chocolate bunny, some mini eggs and a single Cadbury Creme Egg. That was all the Easter stuff I could carry from the little M&S round the corner last time I visited a shop over a week ago. I had anticipated going to the supermarket for a big shop at some point before Easter where I would have got a big egg, but haven't needed to. I have pointed out to her that going to buy Easter eggs isn't essential and I'd rather keep us and others safe, but she's feeling very done hard by.

Normally I'd be cross with the bratty behaviour, but feel like I should cut her some slack as she's been so good since lockdown started whilst dealing with some major disappointments (she was meant to be going to America to compete in the World championships of her sport this month). I probably should have done the supermarket shop yesterday. I've fucked up, haven't I?

Oysterbabe · 12/04/2020 17:50

Mine are 4 and 2 and I don't limit them. Neither have had that much. A reasonable amount of mini chocolates and they've each bitten the ears off their big bunny.

MoFoFlo · 12/04/2020 17:51

Oh, in answer to the OP, she's eaten the bunny and will probably eat the creme egg later.

Bonkerz · 12/04/2020 17:53

Mine only had 3 eggs each anyway and they started them Friday! 19ds has one left, 14dd has 2 left and ds8 has 1 left.

KittenVsBox · 12/04/2020 17:53

I though DS2 (8yr) and I were chocoholics, but no Easter eggs have been cracked yet.
We have just had mini egg cookie bar for pudding tho.
DS1 (10y) still has Christmas chocolate left Shock.
They (and I) got one boxed egg each - the type that comes with a couple of chocolate bars.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 12/04/2020 17:53

That sounds like a lot of chocolate even by my very low standards!!

I don't really limit my (7&9 y old) children's chocolate intake at times like Xmas and Easter but they're very good at limiting their own. Today they've had an Aero egg and a small one the size of a chicken's egg each.

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/04/2020 17:53

@Whattodo121 - what was the Percy Pig egg like? I wanted one of those but DH has been the nominated shopper and he didn't buy one. Hoping now it wasn't that nice... Grin

We bought a Twirl egg for DS (11). He had one of the Twirl bars and gave the other to DH and I to share. The egg itself has been broken into, there's about half left.

He also has a Maltesers one his GM bought him, she's convinced he loves Maltesers more than anything as she always buys him these when she gets him chocolate. (Not ungrateful, but why is she so convinced of this??) I expect that one will be opened on Tuesday or thereabouts.

ForestYeti · 12/04/2020 17:53

No limits here but they never go ott

Lolly86 · 12/04/2020 17:54

DD 6 has eaten 3 small easter egg hunt eggs...and probably 1 medium sized whole easter egg... she would eat more if I let her.

AlexaShutUp · 12/04/2020 17:56

My dd is 14. So far, she has had two lindt balls that came with her lindt egg. She'll probably have a bit of the actual egg after dinner, but less than half.

Jammydodger1981 · 12/04/2020 18:01

@MoFoFlo any chance you could pop to the shops early tomorrow? You could get one reduced if you want; happy teenager and happy you!

greenlynx · 12/04/2020 18:02

DD (15) ate about 40 g from her Easter Egg just now and a big piece of cake at lunchtime. I would expect her to slow down and finish her egg in 2 weeks (it’s 280g). She’s not a big chocolate-eater.

Jammydodger1981 · 12/04/2020 18:04

Mine have eaten hardly any which means they’re still all over the bloody dining room table (3dc and one egg each plus bunny and mini eggs from me, one from their dad and one from my mum who transferred me the money)

DollyDoneMore · 12/04/2020 18:09

Can’t believe people let a 2, 4 or 6 year olds judge how much chocolate they eat!

Mine would have made themselves sick

avocadoze · 12/04/2020 18:11

I’m sure there will be lots of reduced eggs on Monday. I went to Sainsbury’s on Friday and they were selling them at knockdown prices even then.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/04/2020 18:21

7&8. They've eaten a chocolate lolly (one dinosaur shape, the other owl shape). They have 3 other chocolate items (a smarties bunny, a novelty egg, a normal bunny). That will probably take them a few weeks. They aren't big chocolate eaters (not meant as a boast or anything, they just generally have a low appetite for such things. They can make a normal size chocolate bar last a few days- unlike their mother!)

riddles26 · 12/04/2020 18:25

3 year old has had 2 small eggs (the mini ones that they look for when doing easter egg hunt) and 18 month old has had 1 of them.
Neither have had time to open any larger ones but we have the foreseeable few weeks of lockdown for that!
I also could never leave them to judge their own intake - both would certainly make themselves sick!

CastleCrasher · 12/04/2020 18:25

I don't place any limits for my 2 and 5 year old, but then they don't eat much sweet stuff anyway, so it's easy. 2yo ate one of the hens egg size hollow eggs, and a couple of bits from his actual Easter egg.

5yo ate about 10 mini eggs, a chocolate lolly and a malteaser bunny.

Both of them have decided they don't like the white chocolate they got, and have donated it to DH and me, result! Grin If previous years are anything to go by, we'll end up baking with most of it anyway

Faith50 · 12/04/2020 18:27

My dc had one medium sized egg each with two bars of chocolate and an egg hunt box of eggs to share. They receive no more than two eggs each year. My friends and family rarely buy eggs for them.

ooopsupsideyourhead · 12/04/2020 18:28

Nearly 3yo DS has had about 1/6 of a Cadbury’s buttons size egg and a couple of mini Oreo eggs when we shared a small pack between the three of us.

We have three more similar sized Easter eggs, several packets of mini Oreo/reeses eggs and 8 treasure hunt sized smarties eggs in the cupboard... how many will we have left by tomorrow... hmmmmmmm

Faith50 · 12/04/2020 18:30

I recall receiving a lot of eggs as a child in the 1980's. My siblings and I perhaps got ten each from dm's friend's, work colleagues, godparents, neighbours. It seems to be less of a thing these days at least in my social circle.

lazylinguist · 12/04/2020 18:32

12 and 14 yo. They've had 2 smallish Lindt bunnies. They could have had more than that if they'd wanted, but I wouldn't let them eat shedloads - it would make them queasy and grumpy and they wouldn't eat their dinner!

SpicedCamomile · 12/04/2020 18:39

Mine are 10 and 12. They have been given, from various family members, three boxed eggs of various sizes but none massive, and 25 mini eggs each. 10 year old also has an extra small boxed egg from a teacher. I don’t know how much they have eaten, it is up to them, hope and assume this will last them at least a week but who knows! They both had a roast dinner and dessert and cleared their plates so they can’t have stuffed too much.
