Should the Queen donate some of her fortune to the NHS?

Her message of support was great but should she follow that with a financial donation?

She probably already does. Just doesn't shout about it.

Booboostwo · 12/04/2020 10:41

Yes, me too. Have donated millions billions to the NHS but I am modest about it.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 12/04/2020 10:41

I would like to a breakdown of how much corona virus is costing the NHS. Compared with savings made from all the things they are not doing at the moment.

Perhaps one far out weighs the other. But it would be interesting to see. Also like to see when you donate to 'the NHS' where that money goes and how much of it actually makes a difference.

As for the queen, who knows what she does.

batvixen123 · 12/04/2020 10:45

Isn't her income already effectively taxed at 90%, with the vast majority of the crown estates money going to government?

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/04/2020 10:49

I think she has a few bob left @batvixen123

I doubt she wants to set a precedent by giving it away to relieve the suffering of her subjects though - else where would it end?

divegirl77 · 12/04/2020 10:53

I'd rather Reese-Mogg, Twunt and Bojo donated signification portions of their fortunes.

PanamaPattie · 12/04/2020 10:53

No.

Outtedagain · 12/04/2020 10:54

It’s not “her” fortunate thought is it, she is merely the custodian.

Youmeandborisbee · 12/04/2020 10:56

What about the millionaire Jeremy Corbyn?

FredericcaPotter · 12/04/2020 10:56

I sometimes wonder how the Cambridges and Sussexes disconnect from the abject poverty and hardship they are aware of whilst they live lives of luxury. So William and Kate are pond dipping with their 3 healthy privileged children in their 10 bedroomed house whilst millions of their future subjects' children are hungry or living in inadequate houses. I wonder if they feel impotent or just switch off at soon as they get home.

LastTrainEast · 12/04/2020 10:57

I'd be willing to take over as custodian if it's a bit of a chore looking after all those palaces and having to balance chequebooks with all those really long numbers.

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/04/2020 11:05

@FredericcaPotter I guess it's an extension of what we all do - I dont think of the starving in Yemen or the homeless in London when I decide whether to buy my kids 4 or 5 Easter eggs this year. Or when I book 2 weeks in France.

I do think it might be harder to abdicate a feeling of responsibility if you are the Monarch-and maybe it is.

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 11:09

Yes, she's got plenty to spare. I'm sure she could sell a property or two...or three hundred.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/04/2020 11:10

Doesn’t she already give enough through taxes and the revenue raised through tourism etc. What she gives in private I imagination she wants to keep it private.

As for William and Kate having a different lifestyle to others, of course they do. Lots of people have very different lifestyles. We all make our own choices and are responsible for them ourselves. Some make good choices, others not so.

BiBiBirdie · 12/04/2020 11:12

Yes
Words are empty, we need actions.
She could sell a few necklaces and probably sort it in a few days but all the while she has the best healthcare going she won't.
I don't give a crap for her speeches, it's all bullshit.

FredericcaPotter · 12/04/2020 11:15

@Porcupineinwaiting - I know what you mean but for me personally, once I've paid to live in an average house and all other bills plus a couple of monthly charity donations there's only money left over for a couple of weeks in France or Spain. Whereas the royal family have millions to spare and to make a difference with. Plus I don't come into contact with the people of Yemen.

bridgetreilly · 12/04/2020 11:18

Is money what the NHS actually needs right now? I don't see anyone saying that the reason there aren't more tests/ventilators/PPE is because they haven't got the money to pay for them. It's much more about supply chains and manufacturing, I think.

Freddiefox · 12/04/2020 11:20

Yes definitely she should, they should all sell a coupe of painting or tiaras. They need to lead by example, Otherwise what are they for.
Honestly they just need to do something that justifies that enormous wealth they have.
They need a role if they are going to continue. They need to make themselves indispensable so we want to keep them.
They are so slow at coming forward. When they do eventually come forward it’s only to shut us plebs up.

Their inactivity will see hem out of a job in the end

Morgan12 · 12/04/2020 11:23

As if any of the royals would give their personal wealth to help their subjects.

But they absolutely should.

BlueJava · 12/04/2020 11:26

No - it should have proper funding from the Government. The more the NHS relies on cash donations the worst it will be in the long run. We shouldn't have to fund critical services with donations.

MissHoskins · 12/04/2020 11:29

What if she does? It would all be wasted on bureaucracy and red tape, meeting targets, hiring managers. Just like the current NHS budget.

mrbob · 12/04/2020 11:30

No. People should be taxed appropriately and the GOVERNMENT should fund the NHS. As they should have been doing for the last however many years and have failed to do

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 12/04/2020 11:32

Oh here we go again. If you really want to think about the haves and the have nots have alook at America for extremes of wealth and extremes of poverty

bluebell34567 · 12/04/2020 11:32

leave her alone, she has enough on her plate at her age. anyway she probably does but discreetly.
