Should the Queen donate some of her fortune to the NHS?

Her message of support was great but should she follow that with a financial donation?

No, the government have a duty to fund essential services
That’s why we are in this mess, because the government have not been properly funding essential services
It’s nothing to do with the queen

I'd rather Reese-Mogg, Twunt and Bojo donated signification portions of their fortunes. SSP for while they are ill/self isolating and donate the balance? No pay for ministers until they sort out PPE and saving given to NHS?

One of the dads at my dcs' previous school is an NHS hospital manager - he has a swimming pool in his back garden - perhaps he should open up a convalescence home for free when social distancing rules are relaxed? Grin

YangShanPo · 12/04/2020 11:59

Why just the Queen though? There are plenty of wealthy people in this country, shouldn't they all donate.

tiredanddangerous · 12/04/2020 11:59

She can do what she likes with her money. The Government should have been funding the NHS properly. It’s entirely their fuck up.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 12/04/2020 12:02

She just reminds me of young Mr Grace in Are you being Served. "You're all doing very well'.

It might be their fuckup but we will end up paying in the long run. Let the queen contribute. It would go a long way from her to show her support of her people

ssd · 12/04/2020 12:24

This is a great idea.

Cissyandflora · 12/04/2020 12:26

Now I don’t normally like the royal bashing type threads but actually I think at a time like this- so unprecedented- it would be really symbolic to donate something huge to the NHS- like some of the Crown Jewels or the crown. It would be something else to remember in history.

slipperywhensparticus · 12/04/2020 12:27

She paid towards the broadband your bitching on

This isn't her responsibility it's the government's and why not ask all billionaires to pay money? Why target the Queen?

slipperywhensparticus · 12/04/2020 12:32

Apparently jk Rowling has more money than the Queen ask her for some money

Redwinestillfine · 12/04/2020 12:33

There are many many people richer than the queen in this country. Are you advocating taxing them too?

bookmum08 · 12/04/2020 12:36

There are several people in the UK who are way richer than the Queen. As people have said much of the royal stuff (ie the Crown Jewels) don't actually belong to her.

bobbiester · 12/04/2020 12:40

leave her alone, she has enough on her plate at her age. anyway she probably does but discreetly.

People actually think the Queen is slipping a few quid to local hospitals now and again? Discreetly? I doubt it.

For the Royals "charity work" means encouraging other people to give to the charities that they are patrons of.

Sandybval · 12/04/2020 12:41

No, the NHS is a bit of a black hole money wise, it needs sorting first before real investment is ploughed in- for the benefit of staff and patients alike.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/04/2020 12:42

Exactly.

There’s also millions who don’t contribute to the NHS as they don’t pay taxes or claim more back than they actually pay.

Plenty of areas to focus on than just the Queen.

Mamamia456 · 12/04/2020 12:46

Cissyandflora - Are you actually being serious? If you are, that's one of the most ridiculous things I've read on here.

OldEvilOwl · 12/04/2020 12:50

The queen should donate her crown to the NHS? 😂😂😂

OlaEliza · 12/04/2020 12:50

How much do you donate, op?

TheStarryNight · 12/04/2020 12:51

I think at the very least the Royals should have avoided their country homes for the duration. A bit of leading by example, rather than remote lectures from a safe location.

OlaEliza · 12/04/2020 12:54

Shouldn't Richard Branson stop sticking his cap out too? That's more deserving of outrage imo.

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 12:56

Let me be clear I’m very pro Queen. I just think it would be a nice gesture.

For the one who asked my dh is risking his life as a hospital Doctor and I’ve regularly organised charity events for the nhs, if this helps.

Yes she should. All good and well sending out nice messages, but words mean less than actions.
Also think the government ought to make big companies like amazon actually pay their tax bill too! That would immensely help.
