Just that really.

Why does everyone think they're so bloody good!

Any other 'popular' films you can't stand?!

Gettingo · 11/04/2020 18:59

It's also that once you see an old Harrison Ford you can't unsee it.

MashedSpud · 11/04/2020 18:59

I love a bit of Indi. Wasn’t keen on the crystal skull one though.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 11/04/2020 18:59

The Goonies...I watched 20 minutes, thinking this will get better surely...it didn't. I still don't know how it ends, moreover I don't care.

Verily1 · 11/04/2020 19:01

I can’t stand any film with Will Ferrel or Jack Black in it.

june2007 · 11/04/2020 19:01

I love them. But if it,s not your thing don,t watch.

Iwannabeadored20 · 11/04/2020 19:02

Thank you Jeffers - I've just found the will to live again.

june2007 · 11/04/2020 19:03

The sexism thing is in all 80,s films think Crocodile dundee, and I saw a bill Murret/John Candy one from about 82/83, yes it was funny but the the potrayal of women was in away we could ever do these days. (Think benny hill.)

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/04/2020 19:16

I love the IJ films with one exception.....that fucking awful shite show that is on right now.

The actress who plays the love interest is appallingly bad, but I am sure the fact that she was married to Speilberg at the time had no bearing on her being cast at all. "Tell me Kate Capshaw unknown actress, what attracted you to multi millionnaire film makes Stephen Speilberg?"

The others are great.

I loathe Pulp Fiction. Its the most appalling pile of shite I have lost hours to, but whenever I tell anyone you would think I admitted to skewering babies as a hobby! "But its a classic!!" No, its a pile of steaming donkey wank

lazylinguist · 11/04/2020 19:22

YABU! I love the Indiana Jones films (except the ridiculous Crystal Skull one obvs). I've seen them all umpteen times and the dc now love them too. Number 3 is my favourite - Sean Connery is brilliant!

mencken · 11/04/2020 19:29

to be fair on Kate Capshaw, she met Speilberg after she was cast (says Wikipedia) and staggeringly they are still together, which is amazing for Hollywood.

that character is a slappable nightmare though, which is why I can't watch much of the movie. Marion Ravenswood was such a good female role.

ursuslemonade · 11/04/2020 19:35

Love the first and third, the others are a bit crap though....

littlejalapeno · 11/04/2020 19:45

Well I guess it would be boring if we were all the same, but those films are absolutely classics that a lot of people loved growing up, so yes you are going against the grain, but that’s your business. For me they’re real Sunday afternoon with the family films.

Speaking of Ford, another classic he’s in which is a bit dodge is blade runner- when he’s in the apartment and she wants him to go and he gets really rapey about it. Yikes! Not aged well at all. Still an absolutely amazing film though.

Propagandalf · 11/04/2020 19:45

I don't acknowledge the Crystal Skull (the comeback / 4th film). To me, Indiana Jones has always been 3 films.

As for the 80s racism and sexism, I try not to look into it too much. The same goes with the old Disney classics. They were of their time and I keep politics out of it.

mrsBtheparker · 11/04/2020 20:30

Stsr Wars, never seen any of them other than in the queue for the rides in Florida, didn't inspire me to catch up.

Any Tolkein, couldn't stand the books either, I have a 10 minute watching record for The Hobbit.

Chesntoots · 11/04/2020 20:34

Yes, Indiana Jones. Truly terrible to watch...

Can't stand Indiana Jones films....
BeetrootRocks · 11/04/2020 20:37

I would keep politics out of it but I felt I needed to say something to the 2 DDs watching with me over the exchange I posted earlier on!

Tonyaster · 11/04/2020 20:39

And she said what you did was wrong, I was just a kid. And he said, you knew what you were doing i didnt think she meant literally a kid!

Almostfifty · 11/04/2020 20:43

Harrison is my one and only love.

After my husband obviously.

You are being totally unreasonable OP. Grin

BeetrootRocks · 11/04/2020 20:50

Tony no I wasn't implying a little kid!

Her words were clear though. He was much older and she was saying, you took advantage of me. And he said, you knew what you were doing.

That's not great by anyone's standards!

Stars2theside · 11/04/2020 20:50

Hahaha!
This has been such an interesting thread for me, thank you to those who responded and voted.
My DH thinks I'm a massive knob for hating on IJ, but he shut up when I told him I thought he was a massive knob because he just is. Wink
On the wine now, cheers! Wine

HeresMe · 11/04/2020 20:52

Indiana just new films are ace.

One of the digest most popular films recently is twilight one of the main character is a paedo a 100 year old man who hangs about schools.

Tonyaster · 11/04/2020 20:52

Oh I still think he's sexy in the first one. Lots of chemistry between them. The second one is action packed but Kate Capshaw is awful.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 11/04/2020 20:58

PyongyangKipperbang

That’s interesting about Kate Capshaw - I was thinking the exact same thing “she must’ve been sleeping with the director!” Harrison is gorgeous though. During the scene where they served up the gross food dh said “they couldn’t make a film like this now”! No they couldn’t - it’s so racist!

DH is always trying to get me to watch the Mad Max films and Beverley hills cop but I hate all of them. Don’t like Star Wars either, especially the second 3 with the terrible wooden acting. I did enjoy the Mandalorian though - baby yoda made my year!

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/04/2020 21:13

It wasnt racist! The point of the scene was that the food was bad because they were starving and having to make something out of nothing, because the bad guys were taking everything. It was a plot point about a village being starved to death by a corrupt local ruler and nothing to do with race.
