I think he's triggered by people who are wearing masks and/or socially distanced
he experiences it as an insult/act of defiance against him because it works against his chosen narrative

I think he is afraid of them at a visceral level, like people being afraid of clowns.

This has always ALWAYS been true. It's been true since the mid-18th century when the first Peoples were pushed onto the first reservation in 1758.
