To wish people would stop complaining about or flouting the lockdown?

Everytime a journo asks how long the lockdown will continue I want to scream.

People need to STFU and do what they're told. That's the priority right now. WHO and all the govts aren't psychics, no one can be certain how long this will continue. If it will get better, or come back or what.

So we need to wait.

I mean FFS. Imagine we had no food or water or power or television or internet or a telephone to keep in touch.

Imagine it was a physical war with people bombing us every day.

People are so fucking spoiled. Yes it sucks. Yes jobs are being affected. Yes people are losing money and/or losing their businesses.

And it sucks. DH has his own side business so we aren't unaffected and there's already talk of redundancies in his main mon-fri job

But we, like everyone else, just have to fucking deal with it for now.

I wish people would stop complaining about people flouting the lockdown.

So many other threads that you could have posted on!

Ponoka7 · 11/04/2020 11:02

It's the journalists job to ask questions.

They are also asking if the government feel somewhat responsible for the deaths, via letting the NHS run down to the level that it has and by not acting quickly enough. But they are getting criticism for that. They are also asking questions and not getting answers. I'm losing respect for some of the scientific people because of how contradictory and vague they are being.

The Government has winged this and it's just not good enough.

Ponoka7 · 11/04/2020 11:05

"People need to STFU and do what they're told."

Feel free to join anyone of the societies where that happens when this is over. The UK will never be a Police state.

ALifeDesign · 11/04/2020 11:07

I wish people would stop moaning about other people.

I find lockdown hard, I don't go on about it and I do follow the rules, but it doesn't mean I like them. The way we are just now is so far removed from my everyday life, which is am sure is the same for millions if other people, that I find it very difficult.

I just get on with it but I do get pissed off by the social media police who seem to take great joy in moaning about everyone else, constantly reminding everyone to stay at home (like anyone would just forget) or moaning about what people are buying in the shops and whether is is essential. I don't believe anyone in the uk is surviving on purely essential items so stop freaking out about people buying a bit of chocolate or something.

But it does get to me when people moan about other people. Everyone is just trying to do their best to get by. For some the isolation has also been a killer in the same way the virus has...

Meredithgrey1 · 11/04/2020 11:07

People complaining about the lockdown and journalists asking ministers questions during a press conference about a massive national policy affecting literally everyone are not really the same thing.
Whatever your politics you don't want a situation where the government just says what's happening and journalists aren't allowed to ask their questions.

nuttymomma · 11/04/2020 11:22

@ALifeDesign

I'm not one of the people who report or call out others but I do get annoyed when I see people on social media complaining or having their whole family round for a BBQ when I haven't seen my parents for a month now. I don't like it either but I just get on with it.

Journalists should not ask questions they know can't be answered and we didn't need to know how many NHS staff have died. It wasn't appropriate to ask that and doesn't change the severity of situation - nurses and doctors were always at risk. My Dcousin is a paramedic with all the right gear, doing all the right things, yet 4 of her colleagues have covid 19.

And I know there are other threads I could have posted on, but they are mainly all complaining about the lockdown / asking can I do xyz or opening talking about flouting it.

OP posts:
ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 11/04/2020 11:28

I just wanted to say thank you for saying flouting instead of flaunting.

lljkk · 11/04/2020 11:29

This fits with my theory that a lot of people love authoritarian conditions.

I have wearied of hearing folk asking Raab what would happen if there was a very difficult decision & no capable BJ to make the decision. Just FFS, can we worry about real problems and not imagined ones?

Bringringbring12 · 11/04/2020 11:33

* I mean FFS. Imagine we had no food or water or power or television or internet or a telephone to keep in touch.*

Imagine it was a physical war with people bombing us every day.

Seriously OP - are you 13 years old.

And journalists asking probing questions re further plans with respect to lockdown are doing their job. One is the things I love about this country.

Sleepyblueocean · 11/04/2020 11:37

I wish some people would understand that the lockdown is very very difficult for some people ( try have a teenager who is so distressed they are spending large amounts of time injuring themselves and other people) and so people saying "they know it is hard" in response to everyone, are bloody annoying.

Ponoka7 · 11/04/2020 11:47

"Journalists should not ask questions they know can't be answered and we didn't need to know how many NHS staff have died. "

As anyone who has attended a PIP assessment or DWP interview will tell you, our government expects answers to questions about health thatcour top Consultants or Chris Whitty couldn't answer. These are supposed to be medical professionals, so lets not expect journalists to do any better.

We do need to know how many NHS Staff have died. This is a result of the governments decisions and the failure to act. If they are going to end lock down, we need to make sure that people aren't dying carrying out their work. That includes care workers, who still haven't got PPE and extends to all workers.

So did your relative have PPE from day one, which could be two weeks before symptoms?

slipperywhensparticus · 11/04/2020 11:50

It isn't a race to the bottom starving children in Africa never made me eat my sprouts as a child they just made me hide them in the dog

The stupid people will get fined (hopefully) and will hopefully pack it in soon

sunfloweryy · 11/04/2020 11:54

Maybe you need to come off whatever site where other peoples comments are bothering you so much.

People can say what they want. You can choose whether or not you listen/read.

Bully for you being so resilient that you can just get on with it. Some people are finding this really tough especially if they have MH issues or difficult kids. And besides, people get criticised for enjoying the lockdown too much if they post anything positive online anyway!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 11/04/2020 11:55

No I don’t want to live in a totalitarian regime thanks. Asking questions and ensuring that what we are being asked to do is necessary is more vital than ever. Especially where a lot depends on medical factors.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/04/2020 11:56

Threads like this are getting so tedious
Post in the fucking Coronavirus section at least so we can ignore

mynameiscalypso · 11/04/2020 11:58

Plus isn't the UK actually being surprisingly good about obeying the rules? None of the models assumed anything more than about 59% compliance and we are well above that.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/04/2020 12:00

Ah but the op is quarantining ooohhhh soooo much better than everyone else Hmm

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 11/04/2020 12:00

Of course we need to know how many people in the NHS have died what a ridiculous thing to say. How can we possibly know whether the government are protecting people who are taking care of us in Ill health.

mynameiscalypso · 11/04/2020 12:01

*50%

howmuchfood · 11/04/2020 12:03

People can complain about it all they like. They can also ask the government how long it will be. The government after all are meant to be answerable to us.
I agree people should be taking social distancing seriously though.

HandfulOfFlowers · 11/04/2020 12:03

One can ask a question for the purpose of inviting thoughts and opinions though. The doesn't have to be a definitive answer to every question. You sound very angry and aggressive OP.

GoldenOmber · 11/04/2020 12:07

WHO and all the govts aren't psychics, no one can be certain how long this will continue. If it will get better, or come back or what.

That’s why the journalists are asking questions about what the government and its scientists DO know, and what the next step is here.

On MN it feels like a ton of people think if we all just do lockdown eagerly enough, it’ll wipe out the virus. It won’t wipe out the virus. No matter how much we all STFU. We are permitted to ask what the government is planning to do to get the country out of lockdown without more thousands dying.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 11/04/2020 12:07

I don't wanna and you can't make me.

So there.

GoldenOmber · 11/04/2020 12:11

It's also a bit worrying OP if you think journalists are only asking about the exit strategy because they personally can't be bothered with lockdown and want to selfishly go to Wetherspoons or whatever it is you think counts as 'flouting' the lockdown.
