The fucking Aldi toilet paper I've been using for the past 2 weeks is fucking scented! What fresh hell is this?? I only noticed when I blew my nose, why the fuck do we need scented toilet paper?

Noooooooo scented loo roll is evil. The fact the panic buyers didn't take it says it all. People would rather shit in their hands and clap than use that stuff. Makes me wince just thinking about it

EngagedAgain · 11/04/2020 06:40

A tip, scented loo roll or not, don't wipe, just dab yourself dry on the outside. Not very likely to get sore then, as even white I think is bleached and up to a point can still be an irritant.

Mothership4two · 11/04/2020 07:13

Yes we are on scented loo paper for the first time ever. Fanjo not sore yet but will watch with interest

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 11/04/2020 07:32

I must have a fanjo like old boot leather, we've had the coconut and shea ones as subs, and pre lockdown I bought the coconut as it was all that was left and we were down to our last roll. Causes me no issues whatsoever!

Whenwillthisbeover · 11/04/2020 07:43

I love cocoa butter scented toilet paper. Makes the bathroom smell nice. No sore bum here, one mans meat and all that.

Leflic · 11/04/2020 07:46

Thrush from scented loo roll?
I can see scented sanitary products might but a swipe with bog roll?

I love the Asda Shea toilet roll. Makes the downstairs loo smell lovely, lasts for ages, super soft. Probably I should warn female houseguests to bring their own.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/04/2020 07:48

I ended up having to hit up the Japanese market in my town to buy toilet roll as it was the only store that had it. It had cute pictures of Hello Kitty on them.
It was heartbreaking to use them. My daughter and granddaughter could be heard from the bathroom apologizing to Hello Kitty for what they had to do to her.

They picked the wrong cartoon character.

I would gleefully wipe my backside on Peppa Pig!

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 11/04/2020 08:00

@Longdistance I misread that as your fanny disintegrated Shock

DeanHardscrabble · 11/04/2020 08:02

I noticed cherry (I think) in Asda the other day and thought to myself "what the fuck". Gross.

TemoraryUsername · 11/04/2020 08:05

This threadneedle to go in classics! Mumsnet's little time capsule of testimony to the great loo roll debacle of 2020!

(Another who switched from Always to bodywork recently and never even noticed the scent but pads are less itchy now... I'm really Sad at Always for doing that to us.

I got some sanitary towels in aldi the other month, yet to try them... please don't be scented! Shock

I CBA going to check but does it say scented on the packaging?

Top marks for most laziness ever! Grin Asking an Internet forum to do the labour so you don't have to walk as far as your loo or Google it for yourself GrinGrinGrin

BruceAndNosh · 11/04/2020 08:09

Coloured loo roll is the worst.
I remember being in hospital after an ectopic pregnancy and they had pink loo roll that went very dark pink when wet.
We were told to check for any bleeding when we went to the loo but you couldn't tell what colour stuff was coming out thanks to the pink loo paper!

TriangleBingoBongo · 11/04/2020 08:10

To keep canestan in business!

I agree OP I hate it, it irritates me.

StoutDrinker2019 · 11/04/2020 08:16

When I found out that conventional sanitary towels contain up to 5 bags of plastic I made the switch. I use Grace and Green. 100% organic cotton and you can get them on subscription so you never run out! Totm are good too and usually stocked in Tesco's but I didn't find the tampons as good a fit. Grace and Green liners are heavenly, amazingly absorbent and biodegradable! graceandgreen.co/

I feel it's another sneer at women by men as surely no sane woman would come up with this?

A while ago I suggested a web chat with someone from these companies to explain why thy thought making women feel shit about natural things so that they'd think they need false fragrance, and while posters thought it was a good idea it never happened. Angry

Zaphodsotherhead · 11/04/2020 08:26

I have a cast-iron fanjo and am post menopause, so the 'scented fanny things' doesn't affect me directly, but I work in a supermarket and the san pro section makes me feel quite sick to restock. Such a horrible, artificial smell - and I can smell when women are using them too, which can't be nice for them.

Unscented should be the default and give the scented ones a separate section for those people who do like it.

Incrediblytired · 11/04/2020 08:28

Oh grim. Grim grim grim.
Nothing scented. Ever.
The very thought of it makes me nervous.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 11/04/2020 08:29

I had the coconut one as a substitute, I developed thrush.

StuckInnTheMiddle · 11/04/2020 08:41

I sent dh out to get me some sanitary towels and he got the scented ones. I swear they actually burn my fanjo! The scent is always sickly as well. Like a horrible, floral, car freshener. I had to use them as well because I didn’t have anything else and didn’t want to go out again. Ordering some period pants now!

UnfinishedSymphon · 11/04/2020 10:00

To the poster who asked how I couldn't smell it until I used it to blow my nose, uur bathroom just always has a faint smell of whatever shampoo or shower gel has been used that day so didn't notice anything out of the ordinary

OP posts:
Auldspinster · 11/04/2020 10:07

Oh shit, I got cherry blossom bog roll in my online shop, 9 rolls! Didn't occur to me it'd be scented.

user345123 · 11/04/2020 10:27

Discovered my DS was allergic to coconut oil when he wiped with scented toilet roll. Awful stuff.
Poor little thing had a bum like a baboon's.

EngagedAgain · 11/04/2020 12:05

Well those scented sanitary towels actually make you smell. I'm not sure if I thought I'd give them a try or if there weren't any of my usual, but once was enough.

DrivingMsCrazy · 11/04/2020 12:06

@Malvinaa81 the entire point of Mumsnet is whinging luv. Grin

Moltenpink · 11/04/2020 12:14

I so nearly started this thread! Could only get some awful quilted bleached stuff, it played havoc with me! Thank god my lovely basic stuff is back in stock now.

BubblyBluePebbles · 11/04/2020 16:59

This thread is should defo be a MN Classic 😂
I also want to warn you all about that 3-ply quilted stuff.
We luckily managed to get Dynorod to attend to clear drains 3 days before the schools closed. Transpires that we have a shallow side drain that runs along one side of our house into the main bigger drain in our driveway. Anyway, our shallow side drain has become blocked 3 times now since we moved 2.5 yrs ago. 1st blockage happened within the 1st week of moving in and was due to previous owners flushing sanitary towels down the toilet! Apparently pipe was blocked all the way up to the 1st floor!!
I showed the Dynorod operative the cheap quilted toilet tissue I had been buying from Home Bargains (big 24 roll pack). He agreed that it didn't look like quilted 3-ply (I guess bc it's cheap) and he advised not to use 3-ply anymore. Years ago, another Plumber also advised not to use 3-ply when we lived in another property.
So we've got 24 rolls of 3-ply toilet tissue up for grabs. I don't really want to give it to anyone else knowing that it can generally build up and cause blockages. But, I don't know what to do with it other than to donate it to the charity box in the supermarket. Hopefully a CF won't steal it out of the charity box, as the toilet tissue shelves were surprisingly fully stocked in my local Tesco a few days ago.
