Aibu to be angry with stupid, arrogant joggers

So, today, just out for a walk and like most people taking care to keep 2 metres apart from other people. Then a young fit woman jogs by from behind and leaves about 2-3 ft gap from me. She could have jogged around me and kept her distance but, no, why should she deviate her path. Selfish!!! And gp on TV just said that such behaviour does put pedestrians at greater risk.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 10/04/2020 17:49

I’ve had both runner and cyclists deviate from their course to maintain distance.
Some don’t.
I’m either tempted to cough in their direction or start shouting and swearing wildly. Maybe then they would avoid me. Grin

JasonPollack · 10/04/2020 17:49

Whenever I have been out it has been runners who have infringed on my space. I am very pregnant with a buggy so can't dodge very quickly and these young, presumably fit, usually men are just running straight at me, panting on my toddler. It's fucking horrible and really grim. Everyone else is being very polite.

I have stopped going out now except occasionally very very early in the morning.

Bringringbring12 · 10/04/2020 17:49

* Aibu to be angry with stupid, arrogant joggers*

To be fair OP - your thread title does rather suggest you are tarring the entire group!

CremeEggThief · 10/04/2020 17:50

All joggers should get out of the way of all walkers and jog on the roads. Ditto cyclists.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2020 17:51

We're not all the same. Please don't assume we are.

The OP isn't generalising. Her title is explicit - she is angry with 'stupid, arrogant joggers'. If you're a jogger who is neither selfish nor arrogant then she isn't complaining about you.

So why the defensiveness?

Lonelycrab · 10/04/2020 17:52

Can’t we have a thread moaning about walkers too? We’ve done cyclists, now joggers.

Oh there is one already. As you wereHmm

onanothertrain · 10/04/2020 17:54

It's families with young children where I am, not joggers. Walking 4 abreast very slowly, waiting for toddlers to catch up and taking up the whole pavement and stopping to talk to their friends meaning no one can get past. Joggers have been very courteous

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 10/04/2020 17:54

The only arsehole who very nearly made me lose it completely was the one who ostentatiously stepped aside for me like Sir Walter Fucking Raleigh laying down his coat, then when a nod and a smile wasn't good enough, mouthed 'Thank-You' in a sarcastic tone behind my back.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

HarryBlackberry1 · 10/04/2020 17:56

It's great to see people out exercising and jogging safely, but in the last couple of days two men have ran past me not paying any attention to social distancing, and both exhaled heavily in my face. I honestly don't know whether to cry or shout at them. I'm not a snow flake but for God's sake...

dontdisturbmenow · 10/04/2020 17:57

Go on the supermarket workers thread according to posters there, you are at no risk to just pass someone close!

LouiseTrees · 10/04/2020 17:59

@Jayfee put your leg out jauntily next time. If they are too close they’ll trip over Grin

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 10/04/2020 18:07

It seems runners and joggers are the new cyclists on here! I try and move out as far as possible from people when I’m out but sometimes they make it very difficult to avoid them esp on narrow parts of the path when they won’t go as far to one side or another as possible and you can’t actually run on road due to barriers Hmm. But sorry to say I am always red, sweaty and out of breath so people may think I’ve only just taken this up but I run 3-4 times a week and was out all winter in the mornings early on, only a few dog walkers out generally Grin. Now I have to dodge a lot of elderly people out walking, more runners and dog walkers - frustrating for me too but it’s everyone’s right to be out! Live and let live I say...

Lonelycrab · 10/04/2020 18:10

Space hoppers. We all need space hoppers. Maybe pogo sticks.

No ones moaning about them they must be ok.Grin

BellsaRinging · 10/04/2020 18:13

I run regularly and usually see no one. Round here I'm now annoyed by the families in formation walking two abreast or allowing their children to cycle on the pavement who are pissing me off-but then as a pp pointed out we're all a bit sensitive at the moment and easily riled. I'm sure we all need to calm down...

Glittertwins · 10/04/2020 18:17

It's generally the men around here. We had a man riding his bike on a pavement (not a main road) with no cars whatsoever, straight at us when we went out for a walk. And we were not covering the whole pavement either.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 10/04/2020 18:19

Another thread slagging off people who are doing something different from you.

Can’t we have a thread moaning about walkers too?

Oh, no, can't have that! All hail the Holy Daily Walk. Couldn't get people out of their cars even on the school run now the Daily Walk is compulsory.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/04/2020 18:19

Well hang on. A lot of these people have been out running on deserted streets for weeks, months and years, until everyone else suddenly decided that they have to go walking, and are now wandering all over the place.

The walkers are just as able to go at different times when there are fewer people out...

A Jogger was running up the hill in our direction, on our side of the road (so totally into on-coming traffic but thats by the by).

I believe that is the thing they are meant to do, so they can see hazards coming from the front instead of just being suddenly mowed down from behind.

(Not a runner but I do make a point of going for a bike ride at odd hours to near-guarantee the roads to myself)

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 10/04/2020 18:25

Exactly, Buzz.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/04/2020 18:25

All joggers should get out of the way of all walkers and jog on the roads. Ditto cyclists.

I was riding to the postbox (on the road) last week and came up behind a large family strolling along in front of me like they were geese in formation.

However unlike OP we exchanged cheerful greetings, they happily made a big gap and I carried on my way with a wave and thanks. All good.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 10/04/2020 18:30

All joggers should get out of the way of all walkers and jog on the roads.

Runners are just as entitled to use the road as walkers Hmm.

PatchworkElmer · 10/04/2020 18:33

@TheArchSorcerer , my friend is in the medical field, and was marvelling the other day at the number of patients he’s been trying to convince to ‘move more’ for years (to no avail), who are suddenly absolutely adamant that daily exercise outside the home is essential for them 😂 Whatever works, I guess.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 10/04/2020 18:39

Sorry, the pavement, runners are just as entitled to use it was walkers. Hmm

Yes, Patch, it'll be interesting to see how many do compulsory daily exercise after all this is over. Grin

thecatschampagne · 10/04/2020 18:47

@CremeEggThief the funny thing about that is if I did that, I'd probably get hit by a car and take up NHS resources.

People like you froth at people wanting to travel a bit to be able to run/walk/cycle away from other people. And one of the reasons you say we shouldn't do that is because we might be in a road traffic accident and take up NHS resources. But then you froth when we run/walk/cycle close to home and say we should run in the road, with the cars.

And if we all give up exercise and become overweight with mental health problems and diabetes and heart disease I'm sure you'll be frothing away then as well, because we'll be taking up NHS resources when we should have taken responsibly for own own health.

CremeEggThief · 10/04/2020 19:26

Who is frothing anywhere, thecatschampagne? Not me anyway.
Runners should always give way to walkers on the pavement. FACT.

CremeEggThief · 10/04/2020 19:28

Yes runners are entitled to run on the pavements, but they should jump off, go on the road and then hop back on. Walkers have the right of way on the pavement above anyone else!!!
