To give a Muslim family Easter treats?

MEEEEEP · 10/04/2020 16:10

I've made Easter baskets for neighbours kids. Chicks, chocolate eggs etc...

Would the Muslim family be happy to accept them?

I'm not religious at all but I know it's a Christian holiday. We just celebrate spring!

I just don't want to put neighbour in awkward position

Jesus is also a prophet for Muslims, so I don't think there'll be any problem.

alwaysmoody · 10/04/2020 16:31

I'm Muslim and we give our children eggs because it's what the norm is in the country! I'm sure they would love it!

MrsSiba · 10/04/2020 16:33

Ahhh @MEEEEEP, that sounds lovely 🐰💞

Well done for doing something nice and being thoughtful 😀

SuitcaseOfDreams1 · 10/04/2020 16:33

I would say go for it, as long as it’s halal. My Muslim neighbours gave me some treats last Eid and I thought it was so thoughtful and kind.

Lordfrontpaw · 10/04/2020 16:34

I have a stash of chooky eggs for my nephew and niece (Muslim) and they have no issue with Easter or Christmas. Any excuse to celebrate and as someone upthread said ‘it’s the norm’

Oysterbabe · 10/04/2020 16:34

You're over thinking it, it's fine.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/04/2020 16:35

Yes! I used to give our Muslim neighbour Easter eggs. She gave us Diwali sweets. They both seemed like a nice, friendly inclusive acts at the time!

notacooldad · 10/04/2020 16:39

We give our Muslim neighbours treats at Christmas. They give us treats at Eid.
Everyones happy!🤷‍♀️

Poppi89 · 10/04/2020 16:54

Most people would appreciate it under normal circumstances however at the moment a lot of people are not wanting to accept things off neighbours etc so keep this in mind about all your neighbours that they might get annoyed over this.

I personally think its a lovely idea but I've read a lot of threads on here that people will think otherwise.

Lottie2shoes · 10/04/2020 16:55

@CuriousaboutSamphire I think you are confusing Hinduism with Islam. But the sentiment is there. As a Muslim, i have both received Christmas and Easter presents/ eggs and have also given food in Ramadhan and Eid (and/or gifts). I think it's a nice gesture.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/04/2020 17:02

Oh how embarrassing Blush

My apologies. And thank you for your understanding. Smile

Lordfrontpaw · 10/04/2020 17:05

My Muslim in-laws celebrate Diwali too!

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/04/2020 17:07

I'm not Muslim, but I personally think it sounds like a lovely thing to do Smile
Just like I don't celebrate Eid but I'd love a neighbour who brought me Eid food yumminess lol

Socksey · 10/04/2020 17:09

Just check the chocolate is vegetarian.... and give them chocolate.... Easter eggs etc
You are very unlikely to offend even the most conservative of Muslims and they will enjoy it and see it as accepting them in your lives

goldfinchfan · 10/04/2020 17:15

Easter is a pagan festival, very old for the Goddess Eostre. of Spring

Chrisitianity stuck their celebration on to it

It is a lovely festival for Spring so should be good for all who live here

Goldenbear · 10/04/2020 17:15

Well, the 'egg' is a symbol of the empty tomb and the russerection of Jesus. My DH is Jewish and his Mum gives our DC the chocolate sheep, rabbits etc but never an egg.

Wobblywibblywoo · 10/04/2020 17:20

It’s a lovely thing to do I’m sure they will be very grateful.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/04/2020 17:25

Let’s face it if we lived in a Muslim country and there was a national bank holiday with chocolate we’d be all over it like a rash.

Tellmetruth4 · 10/04/2020 17:51

I’m not a Muslim but although it’s a nice thing to do personally I wouldn’t want the gift in the current climate.

Just make some for your own family and hand out chocolates once the crisis has passed. I’m sure all your neighbours have their own chocolate at home so I’m sure it will be fine.

CSIblonde · 10/04/2020 18:00

Lovely thought, I'm sure they'll be fine with it. My Jewish neighbours give me lovely sweets & ice cream stuff every time they have a religious holiday.

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2020 18:04

I’m glad they liked it OP. A lovely gesture.

Bezalelle · 10/04/2020 18:25

I've had a lifetime of bad experiences of Christians trying to convert me, so I wouldn't appreciate it. I can see how others would though. (I'm Jewish, not Muslim)

goldfinchfan · 10/04/2020 18:27

The Egg symbolizes rebirth and regeneration....it is Spring.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 10/04/2020 18:29

Such a lovely thing to do. Smile

Mother87 · 10/04/2020 19:36

It's being done with a good heart - ok as far as I can see (i've done similar things - was well received)
