Positives about life in Lockdown ** Title edited by MNHQ**

The media and everyone seems to be focused on the terrible and understandably worst case stories about corona so I thought why not start a positive thread so we can all feel a little more upbeat as I dont know about you but I've felt nothing but anxious, scared and vulnerable being in a high risk group.

So what positives have you all found? What are you grateful for? Anyone been through having corona and have now recovered?

I'll start. I'm incredibly grateful for my health and my families health right now and am enjoying spending more time with my partner and the kids than normal.

OP posts:

Really enjoying the slower pace of life. No feeling that I’m missing out on something by just relaxing at home. A realisation that normal life is too busy. Total lack of interest in fashion. It all feels irrelevant. I’m imagining I could go and live somewhere remote and be happy. Previously I thought I very much needed the buzz of the city.

Terrible title OP

I clicked expecting actual good news

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 15:51

Arrowfanatic · 10/04/2020 15:51

Grateful that DH & I both have secure jobs that we can WFH.

Does anyone else think there has been more birds around?

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 15:52

“ I’m imagining I could go and live somewhere remote and be happy. ”

That was my retirement/ after caring responsibilities plan. Now I reckon it will be way too expensive.

We're all camping in the garden tonight and are cooking over the campfire ( we live in the middle of nowhere), and singing songs around the fire. We're doing this with over 1000 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from around the County.

I think I have solve the problem of where the mice get into the conservatory to hold their party, and eradicated a whole family using electronic zapper trap and traditional snap traps as opposed to poison,
been leaving them out on the patio for the red kites to recycle. (we're rural)

I have no excuse not to crack on with painting a door that has been waiting ten years after it was stripped of its old varnish.

DeanHardscrabble · 10/04/2020 16:02

Mine is a little self involved but I'm finally able to train my hair so I don't have to wash it every day.

Also, I went back to work when my son was three months old, so it's nice to get some extra time with him before he starts school.

But mostly the hair thing.

feebeecat · 10/04/2020 16:05

Mbosnz I hear ya! Two hormonal dds littered around this house too. Having decided to give up on attempts to enforce activities, we are just having a pretty chilled time.
Sunshine, lucky enough to have a garden full of birds, time to actually sit and appreciate it. Got food, possibly not what we would normally have, but enough. Back to school/work next week, making the most of this time, before we go back to it all. This week is our lucky little bubble

T1redmum1 · 10/04/2020 16:09

I’m grateful for being able to spend more time with my family and not having to commute

Slith · 10/04/2020 16:12

I got caught by a speed camera about 6 weeks ago, got a letter from the police today saying that because all of the courses had been cancelled then they were dropping my case and taking no further action :)

Postspecific · 10/04/2020 16:15

Contrary to lots of other stories about loss of pay, the organisation I work for is being amazing, so that’s lovely.

Jimmers · 10/04/2020 16:16

So many things to be thankful for... the main thing for me is totally losing track of time on days off. Not having to clock watch & dash everywhere is bliss!
Public transport is running on time, is clean and practically empty which makes the commute a dream (work in a hospital).
Neighbours are checking in with each other, at acceptable distance. There’s a sense of community I’ve not felt since childhood and I like it!

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 10/04/2020 16:18

I must admit it occurred to me today that I often don’t take time to enjoy or appreciate the little things in life. I went for a long walk this morning and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air, the smell of spring, seeing children laughing and playing in their gardens. All things that I don’t always notice as I’m mentally going through my “to do” list or under pressure to get from A to B.

This afternoon I was weeding with my dc in the front garden and it was lovely to chat to neighbours working in their own gardens or walking their dogs/small children. It just seemed like everyone really appreciated a chance to talk and enjoy their own gardens and street. Lots of enquiring after others families, people telling each other “if you need anything” and so on. In case that makes it sound like there were hordes out, that wasn’t the case and everyone was being really careful about distancing!

So yeah, I suppose for me the positive in all this is the reminder to stop and smell the roses as it were Smile.

I'm grateful for the time at home with dh and ds, so lovely feeling not rushed or as though we should be doing something.

I am grateful that I can wfh and so far it seems my job is secure.

I'm grateful that ds is chilled and taken to lock down like a duck to water no complaining abs happy plodding around the house and garden, he's only 6 and been so good.

I'm grateful for my friends and having virtual meet ups for drinks every week, speaking to them more regularly now than before due to busy lives.

Grateful for the sunshine and our garden

Thisismytimetoshine · 10/04/2020 16:19

Misleading (and disappointing) title, op.

Magic2020 · 10/04/2020 16:19

We can finally get a grip on the kids' head louse issues without them passing them back and forth between them and their friends endlessly.

Also - now I've had CV and recovered so I'm much less stressed about catching it.

Justonemoremojito · 10/04/2020 16:21

My husband is a key worker (not nhs or shops etc) so not worried about money or the house, we have a nice big garden to enjoy even better the weather has been decent.
I'm enjoying the slower pace no rushing in & out off here, there & everywhere

duckme · 10/04/2020 16:21

@kiwielite we're potty training too! We were going to do it over the Easter break but had thought it would be too difficult as we'd be likely going away for the long weekend and probably one or two days out. Obviously that's not possible now so we've bitten the bullet. He's doing really well, bless him.

If there are going to be conspiracy theories at least provide links (so everyone can amuse themselves following them). Vague muttering impresses no-one!

This has to be the best ever ‘in every cloud there is a silver lining‘ reply

On their very own thread pls.

EvilPea · 10/04/2020 16:29

Being able to hear the birds.
As someone with social anxiety the lack of pressure to interact has been lovely. I didn’t realise how exhausting I found it.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/04/2020 16:30

Best thing so far for me has been that the air feels cleaner than I can remember in years.
