2 years ago I used to have a PlayStation and I enjoyed what I would call 'girlie' games. So, one was called Constructor and another was Spyro the Dragon.
I've a male friend suggesting I buy an xbox.

So does this offer look good?

What is a Roblox bundle?
The mention 3 free games that sound like war games to me which I'd have no interest in.
Do other stores have deals with different games (that I would like)
It also mentions 1 month free subscription to something or another - do you know what that is?
Do you buy the games physically or do you download them?
Any recommendations of games that are not shooting, more strategic, or about building cities and such?

Should I consider buying second-hand?
And finally, are the stores that sell them still open during lockdown?

Thanks if you have any advice.

I’d buy a switch based on what you’re saying

My 8yo has an Xbox and is limited in games I will allow him to play so many of them are shooter games or driving games for an older audience

We have a Switch and have just bought an Xbox 1. To link with your friend you’d need to buy Xbox gold which is about £6 a month. We bought the digital only console for £150 and pay £10.99 a month to access around 100 games and have online access. You can also access things like Netflix, Iplayer and YouTube.
Roblox is free to play so you could try it on your phone. It’s not a valuable addition to a bundle imo.
Argos in supermarkets is still open for click and collect.
I think the Switch would suit you better, the range of games is more the genre you are looking for. There are cross platform games so you could still link with your friend. You can buy physical or digital games for it.

I've a laptop! That has perked my ears up? How do I play them on the laptop?

Yay! Download Steam and make a Steam account. It has a store where you buy the game and they download to your laptop from there. (They also do regular sales of games.)

When you’ve chosen a game just check your laptop can run it before you spend money on it. On your laptop go to a website called Can I Run It. Then choose the game you’re thinking of getting and it will tell you yes or no.

Elisheva · 10/04/2020 14:10

Is it a decent laptop? Loads of games won’t run properly on a laptop - the reason we bought an Xbox is because ds was getting so frustrated trying to play Fortnite in the laptop!

User202004 · 10/04/2020 15:13

@TimeForCableTies yes Sims is better on PC, but I've not had a good enough laptop for it in years (don't invest in them anymore as I always have a work laptop which won't let me install obviously!)

OP you can't get Zelda on Xbox, it's only on Nintendo (not sure if it's on PC).

BadLad · 10/04/2020 15:29

Most games are made available across all platforms. It’s just Switch games that are sometimes Switch only.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox have games which aren't on other consoles too. Spiderman, God of War, The Last Of Us and Streetfighter 5 are PS exclusives. Ryse, Rare Replay, Forza Horizon, Forza Motorsport, Zoo Keeper are X-box exclusives (although some are on PC too).

TimeForCableTies · 10/04/2020 15:37

My laptop is 7 years old and plays sims ok. Maybe try an older version? Sims 4 is around £5 at the moment though with a code so worth a shot

RedRed9 · 10/04/2020 15:41

You’re right @BadLad but I was thinking specifically of the type of games the OP wanted to play.

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 16:00

Badlad the titles of those you mentioned suggest 'boy' games to me. Now before I'm hung drawn and quartered, they just don't sound like titles I'd look up.

I was contradicting the implication that only the Switch had exclusive games, which I thought RedRed9 was making (seems I misread). I wasn't actually recommending those games. That said, there are a load of other eclusives, especially on PS4, and some of them will probably be to your liking. Plus Skylines didn't run very well on Switch when I played it. It may have been patched since then - I don't know, I sold it and got it on PS4.

BadLad · 10/04/2020 16:22

That said, Zoo Tycoon (not Zoo Keeper) might be right up your alley.

Morgan12 · 10/04/2020 16:28

Get The Sims 3 on your laptop. It's better than 4.

ocarinan · 10/04/2020 16:39

What's the difference between boy games and girl games?

n00bMaster69 · 10/04/2020 16:44

Why not try Roblox on a pc, laptop or tablet? It's free and there are loads of games where you can build, work etc

LittleMcJiggle · 10/04/2020 16:47

How do I play them on the laptop?

You can get both Sims 4 and Cities Skylines on laptop OP! They are the only games I really play now, I love them. For Sims you need to download a platform called Origin. If you Google it it should be easy enough.

LittleMcJiggle · 10/04/2020 16:48

Or Zoo Tycoon as another poster suggests. Personally I much prefer the older version of the game but take a look, I think that's something you'd like too.

LittleMcJiggle · 10/04/2020 16:48

Older laptop version of Zoo Tycoon I'm referring to ^^

kikisparks · 10/04/2020 19:19

Another vote for the switch (I have both that and Xbox one). Games I’ve enjoyed recently are Zelda breath of the wild, Mario 3d world, stardew valley, Pokemon sword and shield, splatoon, crash bandicoot and I’m keen to get animal crossing. I have spyro on the Xbox. I like games that are less violent and have “cuter” graphics but I wouldn’t say girly games (lots of men like these games too!).

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 19:45

What's the difference between boy games and girl games?

It's like the difference between pink and blue? HTH.

ocarinan · 10/04/2020 20:00

So they have different wavelengths?

Klonda · 10/04/2020 20:00

I'd reccomend a ps4, but a switch would be fine too. Xbox is probably the worst choice.

Whichever you go for, get Overcooked Grin

RedRed9 · 10/04/2020 20:10

What did you decide to go for @Balmytissues

Whichever you go for, get Overcooked
Oh I wanted to get this but none of my friends like talking over headset while gaming and I think you’d really have to for that!

DysonFury · 10/04/2020 20:11

Sorry to piggyback OP, but what should I buy to play Just Dance please?
